Chiefs ready festive DVD

Leeds-based pop-rockers Kaiser Chiefs are to release a DVD just in time for Christmas.

Based, albeit loosely, on the band's history, Enjoyment will hit shelves in late November. It'll run to some 90 minutes and feature narration from Bill Nighy, soon to be seen in the next Pirates of the Caribbean romp.

The DVD will include footage from shows the world over, and video clips from when the band first started, under the name Parva.

DiScuss: Are the Kaisers wise to cash in on their popularity now? Reckon they've staying power, or is Employment likely to be their sole success?

Chiefs ready festive DVD

As much as I hate to say it, coz the Kaisers (Despite the facades of some fashionistas on this website, etc...) are actually decent-but they are gonna follow the Franz Ferdinand route. They'll probably always be popular and maintain a certain level of success, but will lose a lot of respect from the more underground rock and indie communities because of it. They arent exactly cashing in on their popularity either-most bands bring DVD's out.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

They're absolutely right to cash on their popularity.
Things change fast and they might not be big for too long.
'Employment' is a good record but i don't see the necessity for a DVD so soon...

Chiefs ready festive DVD

what a waste of money.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

If I was in a band called Parva I think I'd change the name too. It's hardly crime of the century, is it? It's not as if Ricky Wilson is an ethnic cleanser or anything reeeeeally bad like that.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

I just hope that this band are not the template that lazy a&r use when it comes to choosing bands over the next few years - please tell me it wont happen, please please

if it weren't for Art Brut I think the last two years would have been like sharing a house with jimmy Carr - actually sorry, sharing a car with Jimmy Carr - that is a far worse analogy

Chiefs ready festive DVD

Kaiser Chiefs are a one album wonder. But alright.

Art-Brut are a one hit wonder. And apart from Formed a Band, they suck. Arse. The fact that people treat them like darlings of the underground scene makes me feel sick. Sorry, digressing...

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

What about that one where he runs head-first at the Matisse in the Pompidou? That one's pretty good.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

The_Glory is back. Huraaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

i only hope and pray the kaisers are a one album wonder...

Chiefs ready festive DVD

It's their choice innit?

In terms of a long-term career I'm not convinced. They've realised some great singles and they're a good pop band (I mean that as a compliment; there's not enough pop bands around!) but I can't really see them doing anything new or different next time round so I suspect time will move on around them and they'll stop selling records (a la Strokes)

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

Hmm...saw the Duels. Din't like them but didn't think they sounded like kaisers either. Really didn't hear that at all.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

If their whole stitch works better live, then don't let them release an album! They really really really really are shite to the nth degree.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

HOLD THE PHONE!

Bill Nighy is in the next Pirates Of The Carribean film? ACE! Bill Nighy is great!

Chiefs ready festive DVD

alas, pirates of the carribean is SHITE.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

Well, Blur changed their name to get signed, and Bloc Party used to be Luno, and the Stone Roses were a goth band for about 45 years- maybe Parva just decided to stop what they were doing cos what they were doing is wrong...

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

No it's not

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

Yes it is !

But bill Nighy is great.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

No it's not...hang on I think I see a pattern forming.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

yes they are.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

He's gonna be Davy Jones... maybe not in the very next one, but certainly in the third PotC flick.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

Strange how no-one has asked me anything about them for this. Woulda thought their first single would be of interest in the story of the band. Hopefully it'll get mentioned.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

I like the Kaiser Chiefs. They're quite cheerful aren't they? "I predict a riot - do-de do-de do-dee"

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

Yes they are. (yey! got my pattern back!)

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

Emily Kane is definitely one of the single of the year !

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

I bet there will be NME journos explaining that THEY discover the band...

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

That's true enough- It's like saying a football fan's gotta buy every new shirt and go to every match to prove they're hardcore! Only in this case, much less pies, bic razors and chanting...unless it's a Goldie Lookin' Chain gig I guess.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

Its just a dvd... and i reckon playing in bands since your formative years is enough 'man and boy' service, for a retrospective. I sure do hope i stay shit, so as to avoid the lash of the snot nosed success police.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

Really didn't like them when they did the album.

Now, I've grown to like their record. Amazing.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

I hope it's true...

A shame half of the songs on 'Employment' aren't that good...

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

i don't hear the similarity either (ditto The Automatic, who the sound nothing like whatsoever), but they're still one of those bands who recently changed name and musical direction...

in fact, Kaisers first gig as Kaiser Chiefs was supporting Sammyusa - who're now Duels.

innit.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

one hit wonder my arse.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

But that was a Blur album.

Oh wait. I see what you've done there.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

well to be fair, they'd already been in the NME before we dragged them down to London.

Chiefs ready festive DVD

Don't really see the cynicism surrounding this DVD. Remember they were plugging away for years as Parva before hitting the big time. It's almost like some kind of fairy tale. And quite frankly I don't care if they milk it now for all it's worth. Hopefully it won't suck.

Having said that, I won't be buying it. But only cos I don't buy music DVDs. Cos I can't be arsed.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

three shits 'wonder'.
every morning, without fail, Radio 1 will play a KC song.

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

they'd already played a stadium too hadn't they?

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

they'd supported sammyusa and franz ferdinand (this was before the franz were massive). gig #3 was the one gareth and i did in london village with bloc party :o)

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

Yeah, even though it's brilliant when u look at how many CD's you've got and everything, It's still fucking expensive to keep up with stuff-DVD's are just there for when you cant think of anything else to jam onto ur christmas list. Milk It!

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

i was talking elland road at halftime for leeds during relegation season but anyway

Re: Chiefs ready festive DVD

i don't think they ever did that in the end.
