The Hives fucked over Burning Heart. For that they will never be forgiven.

What happened with the hives and burning heart?

Well, they say something very different happened and I don't recall Burning Heart winning their legal action... hence my wondering what the proof is.

You mean to say that little ol' EMI's legal team managed to overcome the might of the Burning Heart stronghold? Thats David and Goliath stuff that is.
As far as I can remember there was only ever a verbal agreement between band and label, the same as every other act on the BR roster. It doesnt take Perry Mason to win that case. That doesn't make them right though. I'm not pretending to know the ins and outs of the case, i'm just recalling whats been said in interviews and reports.

No one said they should stay with BH for ever but if they had a deal then they should have honoured it.

In a brief message posted on the band's website www.thehives.com, guitarist Nicholaus Arson insisted "BHR/Epitaph did not have the rights to our third album."

Arson also rubbished a BNR claim that the label had been taken completely by surprise by the band's announcement, insisting problems had existed between band and label for some time. "We have for some time now had extremely serious issues with the BHR/Epitaph label and as a consequence we recently decided not to continue with the label we have been working with for seven years," he said.

He added: "BHR/Epitaph has all along been aware of the seriousness of these matters so that we eventually left them is not a shock to anyone."

He closed by saying: "We did this simply to control our own destiny and regain the control over our work we once enjoyed with Burning Heart Records. This had to be done.'

Burning Heart boss Peter Ahlqvist added: "Our lawyers are currently looking into the matter."

'Burning Heart have always been very proud to have been The Hives' record company. Therefore, we are shocked to learn about the band signing a record deal with Universal, particularly since Burning Heart controls the exclusive worldwide rights to The Hives' next studio album. '

'The Hives' have always been fully aware of their commitment to Burning Heart. In the circumstances, we have no choice but to vigorously protect our rights.'

Universal have not commented at this time.

the only really cool fact about this band is that two of them are allowed to be more than 4 stone 7lbs so I admire them for that - they spent too long on their EMI album and missed the boat and they saved mcgee's bacon so he could carry on his label and dicover new gems like erm..........well somebody must like the others?

Sorry yep, I did see this bit and omit it. Not to unbalance things, but because I wanted to post the bit that represented The Hives' part of the story...

I'd rather get the hives than a Hives live album.
