Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

To think, he's got 99 problems already...

Jay-Z, um, isn't Jay-Z anymore. The rapper told reporters at Tuesday night's GQ Awards, albeit through someone else, that he would not take kindly to them referring to him as Jay-Z. Instead, he insisted that he should now be called Shawn Carter, his real name, at all times.

Carter held an after-show party on the night, but did not sign the invitations 'Jay-Z'. Journalists were told:

"Please make sure that when referring to him in your article, you call him Shawn Carter. It's how he wants to be known now because he's exploring business opportunities in the UK."

...'course, a bitch ain't one.

Including working with our very own Lady Sovereign.

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

woohoo. more pretensious hip-hop shenannigans from messers 'diddy' and 'shawn carter'.

From now on, i want to be known as "bono"

oh...thats already taken you say?

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Oi Oi!

Dont lump Diddy in with my boy Jay Z. The mans a legend.

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Well he's going to be pretty pissed off with those Reebok 'I am what I am' bollocks campaign posters everywhere proclaiming that Jay-Z got is MBA in Marcy Projects.

HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!

Stupid name anyway. J-Zee would atleast mean it would be pronounced 'correctly' everywhere but over here he'll always be Jay-Zed to me. :D

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

It's because he's Jay-hovah. The god of rap.

I kid you not :D Fuck it, man is an absolute fucking legend, and he could call himself shitstick for all I care.

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

wot? no more 'Jizza man'? I still wanna know about that proposed 'rap off' between him and Nas!?! Nas would easily bitch slap him back to Marcy with lyrics like : 'haha you're really from a rich and well-educated family' or something to that effect?

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Bloody right - the man's a god. Never writes his lyrics down you know - can Pete Doherty say the same?

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Jay-Z a legend? He's no different to any other of the arrogant pricks who call themselves rappers. They're all the same.

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

fair play to him, i think more rappers should be called by their real names.

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

...

He's an all-time great, made a fair few duff radio records but the album tracks speak for themselves.

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Are you serious?
that came across as one of the most ridiculously narrow-minded / prejudiced / ignorant generalisations I've read in quite a while. not to mention latently racist sounding.

Jay-Z is a fucking amazing rapper
he was conceived under a sycamore tree
which made him a more sicker MC

Seriously if you listen to a decent range of hiphop you'll realise there's a vast range of skill and ability and talent and style in rap, being able to come out with that kind of flow is pretty unique, especially given he doesn't write stuff down and a lot of it's just freestyle... sounds like you need to pull yourself out of that suburban alt-rock ghetto and experience some other music before you generalise about it.

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

it depends if he's in a drug-induced stupour or not. of course, it also depends on whether or not he can write, which given the deliberate stupidity of the songs he writes, is something i really don't know.

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

i dont get it.. how was it racist sounding?

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

I don't think it was. I think Matt's getting a little touchy there based on the fact that most rappers are black.

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Then why 'fair play' to him? It was his decision to give himself a stupid pseudonym in the first place. And how admirable of him to change it back for the benefit of exploring business opportunities...

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

JayZ isn't worse than the rest of the rappers out there. He's definitely not. He's just not that much better than the average, that's all. He doesn't say anything more intriguing than anyone else. He's not covering new ground.
This is like when people tell me "Fiddy Cent" is amazing. He's not. He sounds bored.....or like he has Downs Syndrome or something. They all rap about money and girls......that's it. Nas is a lot more interesting, although I don't listen to him, either.

Hey, here's an amazing Jay-Z line: "And I remain the one, like 5 divided by 4..."

I kid you not.

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Clearly never learned Maths...

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Actually, when you divide 5 by four using the traditional fraction method, you do remainder the one, leaving you with 1 1/4. Division is repeated subtraction. That's the old way of doing it. Poetically he might have been making the point that despite being the one, he's still connected to the masses. What-everrr.

Anyway, one thing's for sure, he's got enough math savvy to make himself a hell of a lot of money.

Ooh, none of you shoe-gazing, floppy fringed, limp wristed, indie schmindie fops like Jay-Z. What a revelation!

Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

Its Taken Him all these years to finally realise that 'Jay Z' wasn't the mc name for him?

Re: Jay-Z's not me: rapper reverts to real name

No. The 'revelation' would be a Hip Hop fan responding to everybody that dares to voice an opinion in confliction with his by branding them 'limp wristed' and 'indie shoegazers'. I certainly can't criticise you for lack of originality.
