Michael Jackson - currently residing in the Middle East following that court case - is to return to the US to work on a Hurricane Katrina chairty single.
The song he has in mind - working title 'From The Bottom Of My Heart' - will be sung by Jackson and a selection of other artists, in typical charity single fashion (see: 'We Are The World', also penned by Jackson).
Jackson made a statement in which he said: "It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf region of my country."

Why doesn't he just give them a couple of those $250,000 vases to scoop the water out with?

It pains me to see Bush wasting the national insurance on the war on terrorism and then when this happens the poor people are up shit creek, Mr West Bush does car about balck people, rich black people - do you think that the bush admin are so backwater that the would allow racial predjudice to stand in the way of a quick buck?
Bush your country is not infalable and no mother nature has fucked you up, now I dont believe in karma but...
Its fucked up the little man (or woman Mr[s] PC) has to pay the price again. Now the corporate PR machine is in full flow to cover up...nice. The world deserves better.

Psst...it says 'Jackon' in the title.
Also, just give them money Jacko! We don't need another horrendous song.

Jacko's broke though, isn't he? If i were a cynic i'd suggest this is just a shrewd attempt to win back the favour of the masses.
Re: Jackons plans Katrina charity single
I try to be uncynical, but I agree with you completely. Possibly not his idea, but his PR people for sure.

Here's some vaguely interesting stuff from the Fat Wreck Chords newsletter (i'm cool):
Louisiana Purchase? Maybe not such a bargain after all. Even at a measly 15 million dollars, it seems the French knew something that the US didn't. Building a city 10 feet under sea level in a hurricane zone isn't the greatest plan. OK, all kidding aside (and yeah I know that the Louisiana Purchase was a lot more land than just Louisiana), it's nice that some people are giving out the big dough to help out the Big Easy. George Clooney, George Steinbrenner, Jay-Z, P-Diddy, Oprah, Nick Cage, and Spielberg each gave a million bucks and John Grisham gave a whopping 5 million. Lots of citizens are digging deep to help out, so when I read how much money some of the biggest US companies are giving, it surprised me. Actually it didn't surprise me.
Chevron is giving 5 million. That's nice cuz I'm pretty sure John Grisham and Chevron have about the same annual income. The only real difference I can see is that Grisham didn't double the price of his books when this disaster happened. Then there's Walmart. Walmart originally pledged 8 million. Now it's up to 17 million. Walmart is the biggest company in the world. If it had it's own economy, it would rank 33rd in the world (right behind Portugal). Last year alone, it grossed 285 billion dollars. The family that owns Walmart is worth over 100 billion dollars. If my numbers are right, it's kind of like a family that has 10,000 dollars giving 170 cents to the relief effort. Thanks Walmart. Citizens: yay. Corporations: boo.

In all honesty I think it's appauling that people are having to give aid where the state should be organising it. Its the richest country in the world, and they can't help their own people. What makes them think they can "help" others?
Perhaps no-one has bothered to check out the profitability of life - so far the fortunes are made on guns and war. Why won't someone sort America out?!

This whole thing of not donating because it's America is splitting me down the middle. On the one hand I'm like "it's America, they have enough wealth to sort their own problems out"
But then the people of New Orleans etc are just as human as the people in Asia, and nobody thought twice about donating after the tsunami

I wouldn't want to be on the other end of the phone if Michael called for help.
I bet Elton John, P Diddy & Beyonce are suddenly very busy today.
He'll end up doing it with Rik Waller and someone out of Buzzs Fizz.

I think you all should just keep quiet. Wonder if you have done something to aid these victims in their time of need. Sure, your government was slow to respond, but now that MJ wants to do something to help the victims (which he has done all his life), you want to talk crap now. Try putting you in his shoes. Stop wining and start doing something for you people.

Michael Jackson can do nothing to help those people, he is too detached from any sort of reality, imagine him mucking in to help like those lovely Hollywood types.
He probably weeps in his pea soup thinking of the empty, lonely shoots left behind.
But he can certainly try and ressurect his public image as the pop prince of empathy, what a nice man.
ps. He touches boys.

Does anyone know if that state voted for Bush? I guess i can check. its in the bible belt...but they deserve aid - would our government be able to cope with and atrocity such as this?
Hopefully and to be honest, im doubtful, this will show all american, no matter how backward the government is and how little the care about the average american. they shit on the world and then expect our sympathy when thier shit turns sour, but its not there fault they've been brainwashed and manipulated with figures and religion. so they do deserve help but compassion is not eternal.
does anyone know how much money american donated to the tsunami appeal

Re: Jackson plans Katrina charity single
Actually, you do make an interesting point. Had it been anyone else, we would probably have said 'fair enough'. It's hard to know what Michael Jackson can do now to sort out his reputation, rightly or wrongly.
But given everything that has happened, it's hard to believe his PR people haven't thought "right, this is your way back in...", do you not think? Perhaps he could have put this together amongst 'the industry' rather than getting his people to publicise the fact immediately.

Americans are mostly doing their bit, I think. You can be as cynical as you like about it. Fine. But everytime I walk into a store and see a hurricane relief bucket it's damn near full, and then I throw in my own $5 or $10. It's what decent human beings do.

To be honest, I wouldn't let Jackson near the bottom of anything.

Re Tsunami. Millions of dollars; millions...how much did Britian send? And Bush actually signed a bill to allow taxpayers to immediately take tax deductions (God I hate defending that cocksucker). So please, fuck off ed_kneaf.
"Does anybody know if Louisana voted for Bush?" You're such an asshole.
And as terrible a tragedy as the earthquake/tsunami was it wasn't quite the same thing. Brits and Americans are cousins, dumbfuck. If London drowned we'd be sending over the entire American Navy to help bail you out. So this, "eh fuck them sactimonious Americans" vibe is shit. I'm offended.

im not being cynical, i'll through my money in too but you gotta ask yourself why a city on the gulf doesnt have a relief fun set up? If the city was on the edge of a volcano or on a fault line, such as San Fransico, then you'd have plans of action in place. the way the weather has been acting recently our country too should think about setting up a national reserve to account for the acts of nature which our pollution has excentuated. Acts of God dont exist and it makes me sick that insurance companies rape you for cash yet are no where to be seen when they are really needed.
the poor suffer, and i can be cynical about the US government while feeling compassion towards those affected they are different emotions about different matters.

You sir, are a cunt, a prime cunt, I was asking a question not judging anyone. my heart does bleed for these people and if my family were affected I'd be distraught.
I'd like to thank you for being so quick to judge me when i was mearly asking a question.
You've educated me on the subject as i asked and now I am in a position to have a more valid opinion. For that I thank you, but you are still a judgemental cunt.
The point I was making about the vote was that America has to ask if thier government create the best image of americans and this is why people are not so quick to put thier hands in thier pockets. In fact we may even be making the same point but you were as quick to judge me as most are to judge Americans as a whole.
How about a little perspective hey?

I am sick of people saying this is Jacko's attempt at image re-hab. He recorded a star-studded song for 9-11 ('What More Can I Give') which Sony sabotaged and disappeared without trace. He recorded a very strong anti-war song ('We've Had Enough') which appeared at the end of the elusive 'Ultimate Collection' released last autumn. For all his faults this is who he is it's what he does. Both above efforts went unnoticed because of his image. He tries to help doing the only thing he knows how to do well. It's not doing this that will re-habilitate his image, it's his image which prevents these things succeeding and potentially prevents a lot of money being raised....which whatever you think of the man and his music is a damn shame

Despite his flaws (proven or otherwise) MJ has always stepped in to help the needy if he could even at the peak of success in that respect he is a genuinely good and decent person there are many more that have made that kind of money that wouldn't be prepared to take the time to do what he has done.
As for America and England being "allies" I think its more like Bush and Blair are friends our only common ground is that we've had the same pricks run the country for two terms when they shouldn't have and one of us use the language and the other abuse it.
We're only Americas buddies when they need something from us - The only time we asked for their help was in WW2 and they turned us down flat until Pearl Harbour got bombed then all of a sudden we're allies.

some sense being talked now thank fuck.
MJ is an innocent man and a great musician, and that is the only just way to view him. I just dont want to see record companies seeing this as a way to cleans him image and ressurect a cash cow.

I'm not willing to help a country that doesn't help itself. That normally wouldn't be true, but we're not talking about Zimbabwe or something. We're talking about the US, which has the resources and capability to help others. This should include their own citizens.
I'm not saying that NO doesn't need help. It does. However, the government in the best situation to do it --- the country that always preaches high morals, freedom, and democracy but never seems to deliver it --- should be doing more.
It seems silly to be even helping a country thats so rich and powerful. Even Castro recently saved 1 million people from a large "disaster" in Cuba and not a single person was killed because of it. He has less resources, but more will.

Re: Jackson plans Katrina charity single
Everyone deserves a second chance. I agree that this might be a PR move, but if this can generate a few bucks to aid the victims, why not? Most of you own a MJ CD I think. The guys music is great. We all have skeletons in our closets and should we have been famous and the world found out about it, it would have been the same story. I agree that should this single had been a surprise, the effect would have been tremendous.
Jackson plans Katrina charity single
Generally America is the first to say how they feel for the people suffering but the last to roll up their sleeves and do something about it. You just notice it more when it happens in their own country because saying they feel for the people just doesn't cut it we're talking about a world super power that couldn't be bothered to help its own countrymen. It's no surprise it turned to anarchy with the government not doing anything, they soon found troops to point gunsa and "restore order". As per usual America choose to sort out problems with guns rather than aid

Jackson is a hypocrite, whether or not he's guilty for the horrendous crimes he is accused of, he is guilty of selfish materialism on a massive scale, and his ego is through the roof. Nothing he does is without thought for his own image, and this is no exception.
Jackson plans Katrina charity single
Selfish materialism ? He has always given rather selflessly . I'm so sick of people thinking that because someone's a millionaire they owe the money to every charitable cause. Charity is a choice if it wasn't a choice it'd be called helping tax. I'd bet all the money MJ made that if you had the money he did you would have given a hell of a lot less to charity.
In regards to his ego Michael Jackson could parachute ANYWHERE in the world and not only would he be recognised by anyone they could name at least five songs he's written/performed.
Since a child Michael Jackson has worked for what he has earned and has an undisputable talent He owes the people of New Orleans nothing but he offers help and you call him selfish.

I tend towards agreeing with villain. It seems people are often too quick to hurl the axe at celebrities who commit to charity on the premise of baseless assumptions regarding their motives.
You can't possibly assert that 'nothing he does is without thought for his own image'. Do you have access to his thoughts? No? So what leads you to suggest that he's so self absorbed other than A: Your default negative preconceptions of Jackson as a 'celebrity' and B: The medias (probably unfair) representation of him?
To illustrate this last point, notice how, now that Jackson has been cleared, he's become yesterdays news. They were only interested in the guy when they were facilitating public assumptions that he was a fucking paedophile. This is a horrible example of the media pandering to the public desire for celebrity character asassination. It's fucking disgusting.
