The powers that be at MTV have released the nominees for this year's Video Music Awards, to be held in Miami on August 28th. Green Day lead the field, with a number of predictable artists making up the numbers. P Diddy will present the show.

It celebrates videos by struggling Irish bands who have been ekeing out a living on the international megastadium circuit for the past 20 years, by giving their releases the much needed exposure that popular stations like Radio 1 deny them.

Sometimes you can go for 10 minutes without hearing one of those artists on the radio. Hopefully, this award will rectify that situation.

Shouldn't all the rappers in the Best Hip Hop Video category also be in the Best Rap category, seeing as how rap is a subgenre in the hip hop bubble? Hip Hop Videos should consist only of the nominees in the R&B and Rap categories if this made sense.

And Best Male and Female categories should be full of artists and videos from the other categories. IF they only appear in the Best Male/Female categories, it doesn't make sense.

I, too, will stop making sense now.
