Muse's Matt Bellamy: "September 11 is clearly an inside job"
- Artists:
- Muse »
What, exactly, does this have to properly do with all things music? Well, this Matt Bellamy is the very same Matt Bellamy as the Matt Bellamy that sings under the guise of Matt Bellamy in the Matt Bellamy-fronted rock band Muse. But beyond that, nowt. But it is Friday, you know. Not a lot generally happens on Fridays. Apart from Jonathan Ross. I tend to make sure I'm out...
So, anyway: Matt Bellamy - yes, that Matt Bellamy - reckons 9/11 was an "inside job", carried out in order to _"have an excuse to invade the Middle East"_. You probably didn't hear it here first. We didn't - we read CMU.
He said something along the lines of this, here:
_"September 11 is clearly an inside job, there's massive evidence that suggests that it was either allowed to happen or even worse, deliberately made to happen. There was a document called _Project For The New America Century_ which was made by neo-Con writers in the '90s who supplied most of the agenda that Bush is putting into place now, which clearly says, _'We need a Pearl Harbor-level of event so we can have an excuse to invade the Middle East'."
Okaaaaaay. I'm going home to think about that. For two whole days. At least ol' dead Hunter S agrees with him, though: seeee? See you Monday.

Matt Bellamy is clearly
a fucking knob. Can't he just play music rather than parade his stupidity? What a dick.
As I've said before
Matt Bellamy = Rock star most likely to end up as David Icke type figure in 20 years
...
I'd stick to the guitar.
HST
was the maaaan, man.
Well, I think he's probably right.
Whether or not he has the 'authority' to make such pronunciations from the lowly platform of 'musician' is another matter...but then, musicians are people too. They can think and form opinions as well as you or I.
neither
David Bellamy is clearly the man
DETTOL
He used to have it dripping off his beard in adverts, y'know...
oh boy
i'm not the biggest muse fan, but at least he's saying something. over here in america there has been a gag order in effect by clear channel effectively silencing bands from speaking out against, well, anything. so for ANYONE to say ANYTHING is fairly important imo. & to say something like this (that the fuckhead running america committed this shit) is impressive as well. that's not to say that no musicians have spoken out about the growing fascism within america, but censorship is such a prevalent force here & it's a difficult topic to fight (due to corporate media strangle & censorship). so the more the merrier i say.
but to invade the middle east was not necessarily the primary objective. in examining the patriot act & it's immediate application & it's loooooong term consequences one can more clearly see the objective.
& besides, craig can't score goals. & has a stupid fucking tattoo.
I've thought about it
He's still a dick... And you're sucking it.
...
Much as I love Muse and think Bellamy's a genius... he's really not proving it. Stick to the music, fella.
Idiot
just....a stupid fool.
bello
also pretty much* believes that aliens came down to earth and changed apes to man
*i added this in case i got what he said wrong
he...
has and is entitled to his opinion.
just because he is a well known musician doesn't mean he can't speak out about anything that isn't muse related.
if someone that worked at starbucks was talking about 9/11 you wouldn't turn around say 'shut the fuck up mate, get on with that latte'.
(or would you?)
I nfacy you
Yup.
yes
if he said something so STUPID.
conspiracy theories
are for people to whom facts don't seem exciting enough
I wouldn't
have believed that until I saw this documentary (granted- probably designed to make me think it was allowed to happen) but did you see the second tower when it unzipped, the explosions looked detonated, they were fucking EXPLODING, not collapsing. Something fishy, definately.
he's clearly
being controlled bygeorge bush.
(see the new south park episode)
Incidentally
Matt said something similar to this four or five years ago, (in NME, before Origin (which makes me think it was 01), with the cover of him with blue hair looking a bit manga sid viscious), he basically said it was a conspiracy theory, before explaining that there was an extra planet, who came down and cloned us to be a fraction of themselves (intelligence and size wise?), and that all of this was somehow instigating global unrest a la 9/11. He was quite keen to point out that he'd been reading up on the subject.
At least he's got interests
For the record, IMHO, there is no conspiracy, just a lack of US Federal govt resources devoted to a n issue which hadnt quite forced itself into the public consciousness yet. That doesnt stop the Bushes, Bin Ladens, Saudi Royals and others from being similar people in similar circles
I've never experienced one of my musical heros to piss me off so much
His comments left me fuming, whether he was joking or not.
He only needs to watch the latest south park episode to see what a twat he's being.
Conspiracy
Was in the US for nearly a month. The weird thing is the amount of people with similar views to Matt Bellamy, and the amount of people (spesh young people) who were really down on their own country. I find it impossible to believe that any politician would knowingly stand by and let 3000 people die on their own soil... though the thing that most freaked me out on 9/11 was why the whole buildings collapsed because of explosions and air crashes on the topmost floors.
It perhaps is possible that the security services allowed a terrorist attack to get under the net. In order to keep the IRA believing it had no infiltrators the British security services had to let the occasional attack succeed...because otherwise the IRA would have known for sure that they had moles...and keep their fingers crossed that the particular plot was only a 'small' bomb or whatever.(perverse as that is) We may never know which of the IRA atrocities were the ones 'allowed' to happen... and applying the same logic to middle eastern terrorists...maybe it is conceivable that the neocons wanted to let the terrorists have a success in order to generate enough fear to unite the country behind them..and to start wars deliberately in order to generate lots of reconstruction and military revenue for US companies. If 9/11 was 'allowed' to happen, though, it would have only been because the US players involved were blind to the scale of carnage that was planned.
I think that we're probably closer to the mark believing our leaders to be guilty of colossal mistakes than believing them capable of willful evildoing.
It's still no reason to be down on America. It's still a great country, built on sound principles and populated by a decent bunch of people... I was wondering if Americans being down on their country was some stage on the way from a colonial to post-colonial mindset.
tbf
'starlight' hasnt gained much interest.
some responses here are really silly
he is only echoing what a lot of people have been saying for the past few years.
Hmmm
At Reading he wore a T-shirt which had the words "Terror Storm" handwritten on the back. He was later asked what this was all about and his answer was - search for it on Google Video.
Oh well, at least he's not boring.
i like
my rock stars crazy - ergo, this bit of mentalism is good.
New Pearl Harbor
What a lot of cynisism from DiS readers! I'm currently reading "The New Pearl Harbor" by David Griffin and I can quite see why Matt holds this view.
Thom Yorke told me
that all the world's banks are really run by aliens.
bless
like someone else said, at least he's interesting.
it was worth it
if it furthers the cause of 'patriotism is a load of wank'.
my god
what an ignorant post.
When I saw the headline 'I thought what a twat'...
but out of curiousity I watched the video that the dude above posted. I can now see where he's got his opinion from as the evidence is certainly very strong. I'd recommend people just to have a look. I went with the mentality that it would be some crazy outlandish theory and was ready to pan it, since watching it I feel a lot different. Check it out.
the...
... Project For A New American Century stuff is available on the US Governments website and makes for frightening reading. Whether he's spot on or not is one thing, but he's certainly not a million mile off.
!
If you don't think politician...republicans at least, will sacrifice numbers of people to further their own lust for power/money etc then you'd be wrong. Aren't these the same people who will attack other countries, send people to war, resulting in their deaths and the civilians involved.
It's a shame sometimes people will confuse facts with personal opinions. Like during the Micheal Jackson and Lil Kim cases.
"We believe he/she is innocent. It's a set up!"
"Why"
"...because their music changed my life"
"What an informed and intelegent opinion..."
Also, did you have any choice over what country (or skin pigment for that matter) you where born in/with? I thought not.
i like his threats and thinly veiled aggression towards intelligence
but really he's just another opinionated person against another opinionated person.
matt bellamy is clearly
a fucking idiot and insensitive to boot.
if youve watched that video
you really should read this.
!
So how is discussing 9/11 insensitive. It's mentioned in the Guardian every other day.
watched the new south park
the other day, and as was said above, the 911 conspiracy is a government conspiracy, according to them.
What they seemed to be saying was that the US government are incapable of forging such an elaborate plan, but pissed off muslims are.
Which I disagree with.
I agree...
...with the fact that he is a fucking knob, however, can he stop playing music aswell please.
Matt Bellamy
is probably one of the only truly great rock stars in the World today. The fact that we're all on here talking about more than just his hair is testament to that. There's so many good and bad points on this thread I'm going to have to read it all again when I've had another cup of tea, but cheers for all the links, that should keep me occupied for a while.
Next week -
Matt Bellamy: "Judas Was Innocent!"
Loose Change
I've now read about how innacurate that film is, so it seems like a load of bollocks to me.
i do think its insensitive to construct
conspiracy theories which clearly have no basis in fact about events which killed thousands of people.
Project for the American Century
has been around for ages. What he's saying is something many people suspect anyway. I'm not sure if I do, but I appreciate the arguement and can see the thoughts behind it. We are being fed a false agenda to frighten us. Its like Birdflu....utter bollocks. The amount of people who have died in proportion to the sheer volume of population is bollocks
The Conspiracy Theory is retarded
For the simple reason that The US government regularly gets involved in foreign military adventures without needing any kind of excuse like this.
Clinton threw cruise missiles at Afghan camps and African medicine factories because people were talking about his cigar too much...
This...
"It's just reinforced my opinion that Muse have lost all sense of subtlety and direction in their music."
Has just reinforced my opinion that you don't know what you're talking about.
I don't agree with this theory either, but what the fuck has it got to do with the direction of their music?
this sounds like a case for..
The Hardly Boys!
oooooooh
i'm getting a RAGING clue right now!
What you should do
Is think. Or just watch Zeitgeist. Stop being afraid and start using your heads. Or at least the part that doesn't shy away from the strange.
Matthew Bellamy is awesome, at any rate. :D
shush
they're just shocked so they cursed to calm themselves down. if a three year old told em :a Muslim killed my teddy bear, they'd rather believe that.
and it's rather troublesome to find a new terrorist.
thnx to their comments, now their ignorance level has been proven.
go matt belamy!you know we love you.
