Another Daniel Johnston tribute record assembled
Someday, soon, Daniel Johnston tribute albums are surely going to outnumber records by the man himself.
The latest is I Killed The Monster, out next week on Second Shimmy Records (reports the excited Pitchfork). Among the contributors are Sufjan Stevens and Daniel Smith, Dot Allison, Joy Zipper and Kimya Dawson. So, like them and the songs of Mr Johnston? Get moist to this...

Why?!
The covers are never close to brilliance of the originals. With a few noteable exceptions they nearly always miss the point.
isn't
mike watt in spaced?
and he's in the stooges?
wow
see, i've suggested
that mike watt from spaced is named after mike watt from minutemen/fIREHOSE/secondmen/stooges/reactionaries/los punkinheadz, but no one gave credence
he died?
no more silverchair?
OH NOEZ
I saw...
"The Devil & Daniel Johnston" not too long ago. Chuffin amazing it was.
Find it. Watch it.
covers...
can't agree - his originals always have charm but they are sometimes also rubbish.
The discovered/covered one
With Bright eyes, Beck, Eels etc. looks better than this one i recknons...
yeah!
there was a poster minutemen poster on the wall somewhere in Spaced-and Mike watt's version of walking the cow is wonderful.
so
Does anyone else think that he's just a fat nutter that draws like a 12 year old and makes poor music?
Yup
I agree, that cover album was very good, and this tracklisting doesn't seem to come anywhere near (other than Sufjan Stevens really). Not too sure why they're doing another one.
Very 'anti-folky' too: Kimya Dawson, Jeffrey Lewis, Major Matt Mason, Toby Goodshank. Just seems to be missing Adam Green for the whole Moldy Peaches gang.
i love that album
and this one's got a few of the same tracks on it.. don't let the sun go down.., walking the cow, true love will find you..
a bit pointless surely.?
i'll still end up buying it though
The End
I will end you! Daniel Johnston has been a good friend man of mine for ten years. He is probably the most interesting and nicest person I have ever met, his music is so inspiring. I love it when people like you get angry because you don't understand the appeal. Awww, do you want us to write you a letter to tell you how cool you are? Perhaps then you might be able to appreciate the genius of Daniel.
bf
I think he's pretty talented. It'd be cool if sometimes he went for just one more vocal take, but I guess that's a sound
