Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

This summer, London's Hyde Park will play host to a brand new music event: Wireless 2005.

The four-day event, sponsored by mobile phone bods O2 and organised by Clear Channel, will feature four very different British bands playing a headlining role on each day. New Order will open proceedings on Friday 24th June, followed by Basement Jaxx on the 25th. After a three-day break, Keane will top the bill on Wednesday 29th and Kasabian will close the event with a swagger on the 30th.

Many more bands will be announced over the coming weeks, and the event will feature a number of other attractions in addition to the main stage action. Expect a comedy stage, an acoustic performance space, a 'chill-out' area, and a slew of fancy food stalls. Oh, and expect lesser-known acts to get a leg up, too - organisers are committed to the showcasing of tomorrow's talent.

Stuart Galbraith, Festival Director of Clear Channel, said: "We are proud to not only be continuing the great tradition of live music in Hyde Park, but also to be developing the template alongside the Royal Parks and Princes Trust for central London's first true festival. Presenting emerging artists on the brink of breaking through alongside a mix of fantastic established acts is very rewarding and something we are really proud of".

Russ Shaw, Marketing Director at O2, commented: "O2 Music's sponsorship of Wireless demonstrates our committment to music and offers an opportunity to enhance the experience for our customers."

Tickets for the event, ON SALE NOW, are priced at £35 per day. Visit the Wireless website for further information and tickets (from the 12th), or book through this number right here:

Nice. Gates open at 2pm each day with the exception of Saturday 25 when they open a whole two hours earlier. Get in! Literally.

Expect further, exciting announcements through this very site in the near future.

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

"02 and clearchannel - match made in hell"

i was thinking exactly the same thing.

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Fuck me, impossible to please. Sadly corperate cocksmanshp comes into putting on any big event, and you'd pay 30 quid to see any of these bands on there own. But with a second stage of new bands coming up that most of the people on here usually reem over, the fact that O2 are paying for the portaloo's surely isnt that important...if you dont like it, just stick to the arts cafe, simple...

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

That's £35 per day. and they last about 9 hours a day, I guess, a bit longer on the Saturday.

Be patient...

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

I dont think Conor would ever play a clear channel gig - did you not hear his protest?

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Nap.

Surely CC are no eviller than MF tho? All much of a muchness. innit: evil promoters run the world.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Think his protest was more to do with radio.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Actually Mr. Uninformed, ClearChannel's national 'media space' (or Hoarding Area Resources as they're *actually* referred to) lies in third in inner cities and fourth in towns and motorway sides.

British independent advertising contractors Maiden and international players JCDecaux and other Viacom companies own a great deal more than ClearChannel. Particularly in London, where even by their offices in West Kensington, the large hoardings to the East are owned by Maiden and JCDecaux.

Go ahead, go to the festival, attempt to start a riot, but do you really think you're going to get a crowd of Keane or New Order fans to follow?

Oh and rubbishing a promotions/advertising conglomerate and then tagging your own promotion on the end like some kind of subliminalistic passage we will read straight into is pretty lame really.

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Watching a New Order that are a pale imitation of their former selves, a greatest hits set from Basement Jaxx, and Keane and Kasabian headlining after one record each.
Where do I sign up for this? Oh, there's a link...

Still, it might not suck. Depends what the weather and other stages are like. It'll be nice to be able to get to a festival with a travelcard too. Swings and roundabouts, I suppose.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Doesnt it clash with glastonbury?

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

If you live within zones 1-4, a return will be even cheaper! WHOA!

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

They have pinched the idea from 'Stones in the Park' when the Rolling Stones did a free concert there in the late 60s.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

haha
and not MF IS CC.
the world is going to the dogs.

good thing we're all gonna die of sudan 1 induced cancer so soon, or i'd care.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

yeah.
the rolling stones invented live music AND hyde park.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Even better if you live in zone 2 ;-)

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Two decently-headlined days clash with Glastonbury, yesno?

Sounds like the festival for people who don't get tickets to "The Good One"...?

What does Truck have to do with Glasto or this?

;)

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

No conor related beauty at this festival then. Bugger.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Hey come on, at least Clear Channel does us all a favour by covering up large parts of south London with billboards

"Watching a New Order that are a pale imitation of their former selves"

Really? When did Barney, Hooky and Morris leave the band then?

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

mmmmmmmmmmmm. im bored.

Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

Look there's a massive difference between Carling sponsoring a festival and the idiots at Clear Channel sponsoring. On Clear Channel's radio stations in America, they banned bands from the playlist unless they supported the Iraq war. Their virtual monopoly means in America only the most mainstream music ever gets on radio. It's censorship really.

Re: Wireless 2005: new festival comes to London

haha, yes! wow that would be amazing.
