Had they not made it commonplace for bands to mouth off in interviews when they've got something to promote, then Lily Allen, Razorlight, Kasabian et al may concentrate on writing better music instead.

she's basically right, as far as NME/Q 'good indie rock' goes anyway. her music is no better of course but it's no worse, and it doesn't take a genius to see the lack of spark in Razorlight or The Kooks... or whatever reverent guitar band is playing down the pub this week for that matter.

She's right that the majors are signing bland retreads of the past, but if she's that bothered then why not get a job in A & R at EMI? Surely she has the contacts?

...shes probably fed up of hearing The Fratellis, The Kooks and Razorlight like the rest of us. I complain about it all the time, and if someone gave me an interview to complain about it in (and they have a few times) I'd do the same.

Her music's not much better but, you know, she tries, sort of. And inexplicably I'd deal with her, no questions asked...

forgive the girl for having an opinion, a lot of people on this board would say the same if someone quized them night and day on the state of british music.

lots of exciting bands, more shit bands that just copy the blue-print of a copycat. these are bands that are stale and pumping out tripe like s club and steps - its not ment to be that they literally play the same songs in the same style.

Most indie bands sound the same. So much so the general public are pre-prgrammed to like shite, not that they weren't before. Anyway, it annoys me that indie does not actually mean independent anymore. I would hope the word "underground" could be used instead of indie for true independents.

...but it's still why she got a record deal. People don't have to know you have contacts before you become famous, so long as the contacts know...

Exactly. The argument that she's just saying what we're thinking is bollox. Yes, blame the magazine but there is such a thing as an internal monologue and i hope at some point this attention grabbing bint's arrogance will dissipate enough for her to utilise it.
