Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

Yeah yeah, so this should have gone up yesterday... I was busy, okay?

On Sunday night, Channel 4 broadcast the top 100 pop videos as voted for by you, the British public. T'was presented by that wanksack Jimmy Carr, so those that missed it at least kept their dinner down. But, since you wanna know who came top, here's the final top ten:

1. Michael Jackson - Thriller
2. Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer
3. A-ha - Take On Me
4. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
5. Madonna - Like a Prayer
6. Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
7. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
8. The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony
9. Madonna - Vogue
10. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

Wow, didn't see that one coming... and there was me sticking everything I had on 'Come To Daddy' romping home. Guess television demons and evil estate kids just don't click with Robbie-loving chavettes.

The full chart is here. I think.

DiScuss: Go on then, what are your favourite promo vids of all time?

'Once In A Lifetime' woz robbed but i guess it's not to everybody's tastes.

David Byrne. <3

It seems some folk can't separate a good video from a good song. I mean, 'Rock DJ' is fair enough - a rubbish song, but an interesting watch. Meanwhile, 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is a musical masterpiece, but (for obvious reasons) is somewhat lacking in the visuals. This was a vot for the VIDEOS, was it not?

Anyway, anything Chris Cunningham's done wazzes all over these.

That link goes to the 'Top 100 Christmas Moments'.

Is it me or does Jimmy Carr present everything on Channel 4 now? He was smug enough as it was before, don't fuel the smugness dammit!!

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

Bonus!
You can click 'pop videos' on the left of the screen.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

no, it was down at, like, 80 something. which is worse, cos people are RUBBISH.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revea

i think it was probably voted in for historical reasons, as it's (wrongly) regarded as the first pop video.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

yes. and 'the friday night project' is a sack of shit an' all.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos r

I prefer Carr over Theakston. That hall of fame thing was painful to watch because of that smarm.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

Oh dear...
Fightstar, Gazza and Vinny Jones?
I hope that show sinks, Carr with it.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos r

I thought it was funny how the lady who made it was going on about it being as contemporary looking as ever when it's one of the most lo-fi/no-fi 80's looking videos ever.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

i didnt watch, who was in the top 5, I hope BLURs "coffee and TV" were in there, that video cracks me up every time.lol

I read that as "what are your favourite porno vids of all time?".

Shall i tell you anyway?

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

Fuck me, that was bollock-crushingly awful...my mate made me sit all the way through it, so he could hear Fightstar at the end... My other mate, who works in the exciting world of telly, reckons it will be the bloated bridge too far that finally bursts Jimmy Carr's C4 bubble...

Thriller is a top video...dancing zombies and plenty of corny plot-twists...also the Francis Bacon-esque carnage of Rock DJ...

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos r

true dat. but i don't care cos it's ace.

Re:

Yeah. Byrne is amazing. I love him in 'Stop Making Sense'. When he dances towards the camera at the start during psycho killer... the man's a hero. So self-assured and so un-bogged down by self conciousness etc.

Pop trivia fact to accompany earlier 'Once in a Lifetime':

The 'lady who made it' as Brainlove put it, was none other than Toni Basil of 'Mickey' fame.

Re:

maybe "fame" should have been in inverted commas.
who of what fame??

Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

The early eighties song with the girl singing

'hey mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey mickey'

That was Toni Basil who sang it.

Ok own up! Who votes for these things? Does anyone know anyone whose ever voted for any of these things? Huh? Well?

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revea

yeh it was somewhat of a mish-mash between peoples favourite songs and favourite videos. no real reason ehy they were the top 100, and the order seemed a little fugged as well.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

yes please, i'm looking for a good valentine's day present.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

i voted! it was on the channel 4 website months and months ago. there was a list of videos to choose from and as i recall you could vote for 10 of them, as well as suggest others they'd missed.

had more time on my hands back then.

JOHNNY CASH-BURN is the daddy of all videos. It brings a tear to my eye.

Street Spirit is class too.

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony?

Fuck off - it's a rip off of Massive's 'Unfinished Sympathy' -which really is a stunner of a vid. Twats...

Bittersweet Symphony? It's a great song, a really great one. But it's basically Richard Ashcroft walking down a street. Let's not elevate it into some sort of cinematic masterpiece.

IMHO, All Is Full Of Love by Bjork = best video ever ever ever. Though it was a lovely surprise to see that the second best video ever ever ever (Talking Heads' Once In A Lifetime) was co-directed by Toni Basil! Ace!

Re: Re:

Noo, the man is a genius but he is dogged by self-consciousness, which is partially why I think he's so great. Evident in: Seen And Not Seen off Remain In Light, for example, where he details how he wishes he could look like the people he sees on TV and his imploring "love me till my heart stops" on This Must Be The Place... [more wittering ensues] Yes I am bored, bye now.

Re: Too busy to watch telly? Sunday's top videos revealed...

yeah it was, and you got to see the life-size milk carton walking about too...

yes, there is a man inside that milk carton.
