Don't Look Back Into The Sun: tabloid Libertines rumours abound!
The Sun has reported that Pete Doherty and Carl Barat - the songwriting core of The Libertines before said band broke up - have begun writing together again.
The tabloid says that the pair have been offered deals by B-Unique Records, and that they've already recorded vocals for a cover of 'Janie Jones', originally penned by The Clash.
The cover version is expected to be released later this year in support of Strummerville, a charity set up after the death of The Clash's singer Joe Strummer.
Babyshambles - Doherty's current band - performed at Get Loaded In The Park (on Clapham Common, London) at the weekend, their sole festival performance since the vocalist went into rehab at The Priory. Beside their own songs in the setlist was a cover of Lily Allen's 'Smile'.
In related news, word on the web is that Babyshambles have signed a million-quid multi-album deal with Parlophone after parting company with Rough Trade.

...
I'm going to my happy place. Both those bands floating aimlessly in the cold vacuum of eternal space.
Didn't someone here say
That they heard Doherty recording vocals for a Clash cover? And that you could hear his crack pipe?
I'm not kidding, I could have sworn someone said that.
well well well
that peter doherty gentleman is a musician?! in a couple of bands and everything?!
cor blimey guvna, you coulda fooled me...
:0
If they get back together for ANYTHING (as long as it isn't a London show), I will dance in the rain.
there's little choice of other types of weather to dance in
if you live 'oop north'
the priory
Justin Hawkins, fat one outta keane and doherty...
the clash cover
has manymany singers from bands on it, and most of them were recorded separately i think...pete and carl didn't get together to record it or anything.
its a lie
Keane man hasn't gone into rehab, he's gone back to Mordor.
After Babyshambles' woeful performance
on 'Transmission' on Friday (did anyone else happen to witness that particular car crash? I mean, FUCKING HELL...) and the (let's face it, pretty dull) Dirty Pretty Things LP, I pray that the rumours are true.
Reasons it would be a Good Thing:
1. Doherty needs the kind of slap that only your best friend can provide.
2. Barat needs someone with more than one idea to bounce off.
3. They don't look particularly sexy individually. Much like the Spice Girls, who, by their own admission, "need 5 for the power of Spice".
4. The Libertines fucking rule.
:-D
I need someone to explain to me
why I should give a damn about this or any other news involving Mr Doherty and/or Mr Barat.
I place the Libertines somewhere close to Northside on a list of bands I can see right through.
Hmmm
Not so sure it would be a good idea. Pete looks a mess (judging by the Transmission performance), and I think he needs to sort himself out before he starts making great music again.
Fucking got that right.
DPT were SHIT at Reading apart from when everyone went 'Fuck em' on I Get Along. I like to think that the 'fuck em' was directed at the band .. .
Good to hear
Roughtrade sacked the twat commiting all the felons he did.
No other employers would tolerate it. Why should labels.
As much as Pete Doherty is a prick
Up The Bracket is a fucking good album. I'll defend this until the day I dye... my hair
YEAH!
fuck lou reed, david bowie, mick jagger, kim gordon, etc etc
meh, there werent bad i didn't think
they PLAYED well, considering Barat's injury. their songs, however, are shit..
but Rough Trade
are in the hunt for the Doherty solo album.
if they give the band money
Then yes. I guess they are.
If I was in a band now, and I knew we were fucking good, I'd not bother with a label and do it all myself. There's not all that much to do if people like your music. Like the Arctic Fucking Monkeys.
that was me.
it was my friend, he was working in the studio they used the day after and heard some of Doherty's takes.
