Peaches' peta2 pledge: electro gal joins anti-clubbing campaign

Toronto-based electro-rocker sort Peaches is the latest musician bod to pledge their support to peta2's campaign to stop the yearly seal cub cull in Canada.

See, that's her in that picture, right there. As you may or may not know, some 330,000 seal cubs were killed for their fur in Canada earlier this year. While this is obviously a vital source of income for a great many individuals, it is quite The Bad. Peaches joins the likes of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Trent Reznor and Lady Sovereign in supporting peta2's efforts to stop the clubbing.

More information can be found here, where you can also sign a petition.

seal clubbing

it's like dancing to 'Killer'!

...i'll get me coat...

I realy don't understand this huge uproar against Sael culling

just because they're cute, doesnt mean they deserve to live more than pigs or cows or chickens or anythting else.

They are not an endangered species - in fact they're over-populated. What is everyone's problem???

*seal, obviously

Maybe because

Pigs and cows arn't clubbed to death in such a horribly tortuous manner.

...

They are merely electrocuted. In the brain.

PS. For every Peaches song I hear for the rest of my life, I will club one seal.

^hmmmm

1 - pigs are often killed by having their throats slit, which cant be too fun
2 - it has been shown (ill find link if you need one) that in MOST cases the seal is killed instantaneosly when hit on the head, especially when the hakapiks are used (if they;re used properly)

just because they're cute... doesnt mean they are special.

Dont get me wrong - im a vegetarian and i think all killing of animals is wrong - just equally wrong!!

Wow..

Do you listen to a lot of Peaches songs then?

where are

the seal club clubbing club on this issue? are they pledging their support? pop groups+charity should mix? discuss.

PETA and terrorists

PETA kill vast amounts of animals themselves after "liberating" them and also associate with terrorist groups such as the ALF. Don't be fooled by this organisation.

http://www.peta-sucks.com

and the ALF

used to attempt to blow up scientists. Don't know if they still do. Remember reading about one that went wrong - they blew the legs off his wife instead.

What about a little reasoning?

PeTA (I worked for them: you can trust me on this one) is indeed not the most clear stanced of the animal rights organizations. Take the good parts of what they present and throw the rest: you have been warned.

On this issue, though, there is little debate: if you use your reasoning, you should be able to work out why killing baby seals is centre of so many campaigns. Cuteness has nothing to do with it.

Ok, think. Are you thinking? Think, I said! It's really not that hard!

Is baby seal used as food? Answer? No, never. Are ADULT pigs used as food: yes indeed they are. There is nothing as shallow as fashion to justify their killing. For seals, to be sold as elitarian fashion items is the only reason.

You could argue that eating pig is not necessary either, as wearing fur. However, eating any form of food is a primary necessity for human beings (don't want to eat pigs? send your leftover to Africa: third world populations will thank you for that). Wearing fur is not.

Wow, that was not hard, was it?

hmm

is seal used as food - YES, OFTEN.

"Seal leather, fur, and meat products are also produced and sold. However, there were no government subsidies for seal meat in 2000, and the seal industry admitted before the 2000 hunt began that the demand for both seal meat and seal pelts was down." - http://marinebio.org/species.asp?id=302

so yes, althought the demand may be falling, due to all these campaigns designed to make people feel guilty for eating such cute animals, PEOPLE DO EAT THEM.

also - no, i dont want to eat pigs, so i don't, and so I DON'T HAVE ANY LEFTOVERS.

The eating of dead animals IS NOT a necessity for all human beings. and wearing fur IS, for some (ie eskimos)

WOW. that was easy.

...

I might add that since humans have been wearing the skins and pelts of animals as clothing since the dawn of time, who are PETA to suddenly decide it's not allowed anymore.

BTW: After reading your post, I clubbed a seal and taunted a rabbit. That's on you.

...

well done peaches!

Me and my girl.. Out on the ice...

Me and my girl... Sealclubbing...

Why do my friends

think she is 'absolutely fucking great'?

I think she's crap.

If here's one thing I truly fucking despise,

it's Peta. Which means I'll now have to burn my collection of Peaches albums. Or possibly smash them and then insert the broken shards into the arsehole of a small rodent.

am i the only one...

who thinks she looks like bob geldof in that picture? sorry to break up the rabid debate but whatev, yo.
tobythecat makes a good point.

and there was me

stupidly thinking that she was going to go round setting fire to places that encourage drug consumption, promiscuity and 'house' music.

oh well. bring back mary whitehouse, i say.

lost in translation?

her track was the shittest in that film.

...

i </3 peaches
