Heroes of rock, Mclusky, have disbanded.
In a statement posted on their website, singer Andy Falkous said:
“The three piece rock band known as mclusky have disbanded, as of friday january 7th, 2005.
The reason for this parting is private, though probably not as entertaining as you'd imagine.
Personally, I would like to thank all the people, places and times that occured on or near us.
I`m grateful for the love and to to a lesser degree, the hate. There'll be more music soon, from all of us. “
And that, sadly, is pretty much it. .

That's singley the most bollocks news i`ve heard this week.
Interviewed them for a fanzine a few years back. Such nice gents. From the chain smoking Matt, the eccentric John to the ever nocturnal Andy, McLusky were a band of the people. Reading Performances that ripped your heart out and tastful quibs and the best anti-heckler combacks you ever did hear.
I wish them all the best.

Oh bollocks. They was my favourite British band by miles. That weren't old gadgys. And they were getting even better too. Well, at least they never got shit and went through the motions. I am indeed gutted.

This sucks beyond freaking belief!!!!
My favorite album and band of '04, done and buried in the first week of '05....this is a huge loss, mainly because, I really think they were getting better, and ready to actually come into their own.
A bitter pill to be sure!!!!
Fortunately I was able to catch them live this fall in New Jersey...I feel luckier now than I did then...

This is a rare thread, most people are gutted at this news rather than having a sigh of relief. i think thats ace. 95% of us agree these were a truely great band. how often does this happen!

the last time i saw them, Falco made a paper airplane out of his setlist and then ate it - here's a band that would stop their set for 10 minutes if they were being heckled just to tear the little fuckwit a new arse.

McLusky were an awesome force - I feel quite sorry for those people who couldn't (and can't) see just how good they were.
The last time I saw McLusky was downstairs at the Oxford Zodiac last year and it was so loud my ears rang for over a day afterwards. They were blindingly good that night, the best I've ever heard them.....Bass you could almost eat and guitars that destroyed - its just sad thinking they are not around anymore.
They certainly won't go away and will retain a cult following in my estimation.

Falcous saying "you people dance less than the Swiss" (that was at some Radio1 live thing, i think it was in Nottingham).
In the summer, at the barfly he also said something along the lines of "tonight's billed as a 'Reading Warm-up', but i'd like to hold you in slightly higher regard than that"
personal fave tho was as john was fixing his bass (or something), Falkous said "gaffer tape, cures all wounds, be they physical, mental, or emotional" and then 5 minits later the drummer managed to rip his eyebrow piercing off on a drumstick, and gaffer tape was applied to the wound. classic stuff.
John's Spiderman effort across the ceiling of Clwb Ifor Bach was also a site to behold.

Saw them twice in King Tuts in Glasgow and enjoyed them each time.
Just as well I recorded the gigs so all of you who missed them can live the experience, for a small donation :-)

I'm really disapointed that I only saw them at Reading and not somewhere more intimate if you can use that word with Mclusky in the same sentance.
I read in Pitchfork that a singles, B sides and rareities compilation might be released in the future.

Yep, Falkous has said they are prepping a Singles/B-sides and a live disc. Upwards o 50 tracks, but they want to price it the same as a regular album so we don't feel ripped off. Good ol' mclusky.

nothing lasts forever. only ever saw them two or three times, and the first one was a very long time ago upstairs at the garage - and stunning. most recent was reading a year and a half ago, and i didn't enjoy them at all, but i took it as a blip, not as a sign of things to come... definitely one of those bands that a lot of people will regret not paying more attention to, i think.

it'd not right that a band with such a humbling past and down to earth vibe who strove on their own for so long without the machine should disband when such tripe is allowed to flourish at the top end of the popularity charts.
How does that work?
I've seen McLusky sooo many times and was hoping to continue that trend. Suporting Idlewild, in the littler tent at Reading and three or four times down my local around the time of 'Dallas'.
