Podcast Returns: Brett Anderson World Exclusive + DiScover

Music fans! DiS fans! Brett fans! Unite and rejoice for the return of the Drowned in Sound Podcast.

This Friday (11th August), Drowned in Sound will proudly be relaunching our critically-acclaimed podcast. Friday will see the unveiling of two very different shows, each in their own way very special.

Our big exclusive comes in the form of a 40-minute show with Brett Anderson (yes, of Suede and The Tears fame). This world exclusive interview is Brett's first press time in a long period, and the singer reveals all about his plans for the future, what he really thought of Britpop, and more besides all to DiS Editor Colin Roberts.

Brett also plays a selection of his favourite music and kindly gives us an early 4-track demo of Suede's 'Everything Will Flow' to play on the show.

On the flipside, Sean and Colin hit up the new music with a revitalised strand of programming. The monthly DiScover podcast is a digestible introduction to host of new music DiS is currently championing. Tied in with the live events we're promoting and editorial on the site, the DiScover podcast is a 30-minute regular journey through the best new music around.

Keep your eyes peeled this Friday for the return of the Drowned in Sound podcast and the world exclusive with Brett Anderson.

hooray!

I'm combing my 90s fringe in readiness.

I love Brett Anderson

Well, I loved Suede.

Also -

MOre DiS radio! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY about time

why

are you always so gratingly negative about everything you dislike and pompously positive about everything you like?

can't you just ignore something or sit on the fence?

same here

I like everything he's done minus the Tears and a New Morning. And HEad Music

I'll give it a go!

I just touched my belly.

It hangs over my jeans.
Not LOL.

Ignoring / fence sitting isn't my bag.

I thought you knew me better than that by now, Colin darling. x

you are joking right?

i hope so

I think I need...

to get my ears checked?!?
Nobody ever mentions the fact this guy can't sing. All I hear is this awful weeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa whine sort of noise leaving his mouth.
Its pleb music !

I don't think he is.

Our Colin has been known to be a little reactive at times though. Apparently he's dissing the patented Brainlove binary music criticism system.

FANTASTIC!

I miss your voices.

thumbs up

or thumbs down

Pleb music?!

do you not talk to people

IN REAL LIFE???!?!?!??!?!?

Didn't you know?

Fiona lives at the bottom of a well, with only her wireless for company.

Yay!!

I get to put my podcast receiver to use again!

:D

Yes.

But unfortunately I don't control the world's largest army.

This may sound like a silly question

but - do you need an iPod to receive a podcast? I'm still stuck in the bronze age, with my pocket turntable that runs on fire.

it just downloads

in big-old-chubby mp3 format so you'll be fine.

Looking forward to hearing what Twat Anderson has to say for himself.

I'm expecting a great deal of excuses to be made before I'll listen to his musical output seriously again.

Brett Anderson? Ace.

Suede were my favourite band was I was growing up so I'm now very happy!

me too

my claim to fame is that I am (in the audience) in the Film Star video. I'm the dude in the massive brown anorack (sp).

Had to listen to them play that wretched song 9 times in a row.

And it's one of the worst singles they've ever released.

Fire? You technophile.

I've got a woolly mammoth on a treadmill.

Better than

anything off 'Head Music', though. And I do like the way he sings "In a terry-lene shirt tonight", like a fabric can somehow be exciting and sexy. Which was, I suppose, the whole point in the first place.

god

what a bunch of moaners on here!

Well done, Colin and Sean. This is great news and another step in getting the world of DiS to a much larger audience. Hell it doesn't matter if you like Suede/Tears or not, the fact that they've got an exclusive interview's pretty fucking awesome, yes? Yes.

so...

the last ten years of his career, then? :D

i agree.

Actually

I touched Brett's bum once. Indie celebrity bumtouching is one of my favourtie past times.

no you don't

I don't have an iPod or iTunes and can get them fine. Download the Juice podcast receiver.

^seconded^

'Head Music' was still rubbish, though. ;-)

HAve you all forgotten...

....elephant man

the #1 single that never was

I am I am
The elephant man
it is incredible
How I can
Do Just what
elephants can

genius

I LOVE that song

Wooo!

Will the old ones be up to download too?

Brett and Suede

Brett is def a talented musician and Suede could have got much more out of it if only they were a bit more commercial minded . Listening to their B sides album I discovered many awesome songs which could easily have been released as singles. Live they ruled , apart from Radiohead there is no band now that I look forward to seeing live , Suede was one of them . Shame they are gone .

it's downloading now

:-)

i thought that

the tears were a bit shit. just thought i'd point that out.

Suede b-sides

are/were the stuff of legend. Who casually tosses away full-blown, 24 carat TUNES like 'Every Monday Morning Comes' and 'Killing Of A Flashboy' these days? Most indie bands don't even have songs of that calibre on their proper albums, let alone chuck them out as b-sides. In fact, has there been a band who genuinely care about their singles as much as their albums since Suede? If more bands spent time and effort recording quality b-sides, would singles still be seen as important?

yeah, pleb music

it's what a poorly defined and generally misunderstood group of Roman citizens (some kind of aspirational middle class, possibly... no-one knows) listened to when they were relaxing of an evening.

like, duh!

Give me pleb, give me pleb

Music instead...

That bands ingles might be seen as more important

but it wouldn't reverse the trend.

Another no-one and My Insatiable one... My Dark Star...

God, they were great. Why can't they just reform properly?

??

why did the podcasts stop in the first place? i had my computer took away for 10 week and when i came back online the podcasts where gone.... glad they're back now though.

YES !

YES !
YES !

Where the hell is it?

The podcast, I mean.

Nevermind

Finally found it. Christ.

WHERE IS IT?!

I can't find the podcast, someone post a link or something...

Best

Suede is/was best band in this planet. Yeah, Brett is my favourite singer!
