Welsh metal giants, LostProphets are to tour the UK this November in support of nothing in particular. I guess they just fancy playing some gigs. Some MASSIVE gigs, in fact.
Having comfortably sold 1,000,000 (1 MILLION) copies of their second album Start Something and garnered an equally comfortable #13 placing for their current single, the sextet wowed crowds once more at the Carling Weekend with alarmingly good live performances even when the weather was crap. Probably. I say probably because I didn't go to the Carling Weekend this year for no discernable reason. Any possible reasons on a postcard to the new DiS address, please. You will win a prize. Now then, those dates...

LostProphets getting arena-sized
I was at Reading, and they were shit. Probably.
LostProphets getting arena-sized
I thought lostprophets were shit at reading. i saw them 2 years ago and they used to be amazing!
LostProphets getting arena-sized
i saw them at leeds and thought they were great!they could have been a bot better i reck but they shit-hot nonetheless!
LostProphets getting arena-sized
dont see why everbody suddenly hates them, but anyway, seen them at ozzfest couples years back and the sound was screwed and from what ive read the sound was fucked up at reading AND leeds
guess the sound guys hated them too :-/

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
people have always hated them, its no new thing! i saw them play to about ten people ages ago, that was fucking funny. they were also underneath a really shit metal band called brutal deluxe on the bill. that was even funnier!
LostProphets getting arena-sized
I liked Lostprophets, but they've got boring, the problem with their albums is that they have a couple of classic tracks and then ten tracks of filler.
And they were crap at Leeds. Boringasfuck. Them and 50 cent were easily the worst performances ofthe weekend.
Dragonninja and Burn Burn are still examples of perfect rock tunage though.

Phil, you don't know what you're talking about.
They haven't got boring, you got bored of them. They weren't crap at Leeds either, the sound was crap at Leeds. They put on a good performance and played a wicked set.
Why is DIS turning into NME?

At Reading they werent amazing but then they werent bad either in my opinion. The first album I thought was really good, havent bothered getting the other one though!
LostProphets getting arena-sized
i have never liked a song this band have done. theyre a bit irritating.
LostProphets getting arena-sized
Wrong Lostprophets are atrocious. There's actually barely any difference really between them and Busted. And I have listened to their albums, before I get beaten up by a load of Welsh emoers. I'LL TAKE YOU ALL ON! AT ONCE! 'is restrained by men in white coats'
LostProphets getting arena-sized
i actually think they sound better recorded than live lol apart from dragonninja and burn burn which are pretty great live.....when i saw them the band were to loud...as in cudnt hear ian singing for shit
Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
The most obvious difference between Lostprophets and Busted is that Lostprophets have sillier haircuts. And t(w)attoos. And they wear more pink. And scarves. When the weather's warm.
LostProphets getting arena-sized
hm, the singles are pretty good but they're shite really and definitely shouldn't be headlining arenas.
LostProphets getting arena-sized
Yeah, but Brutal Deluxe....how bad were they? Big fuck-off electric drumkit, wanky war paint, unbridled crappery, the lot.
Cheerio,
Ian

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
Burn Burn? Perfect rock tuneage? Has nobody noticed it's just Killer by Adamski with different vocals?
But yeah, used to love them, first album's great, but they've never been the same since they made their DJ play keyboards.

Whatever happened to the LostProphets? They had an original first album that hardly struggled to prove nu metal was dead and that a new breed of rock was imminent. And so with baited breath we waited to see what the next offering would be and it came in the form of start something, which is shit.
Put simply they sold out, to mainstream demons who demand they should sound like this and wear this.... They may not be constructed by the record company but they sure as hell are acting like it with their fashionable haircuts (twatty mullets) and stereotypical metal tattoos.
Every release after the fake sound of progress has been shite, each single progressivley worse than those before.
Where is the potency and anger of the first album?
I guess with any music the proof lies in the performance which like their second album was also shit. Glastonbury may be a haven for hippies and all the avant guarde music you can fit in a tent in a field but LostProphets proved that being so up your own arse just isn't cool.
Their performance was awful and their renditions of previous songs from the first album that showed just how good they once were, were terrible.
As for headlining stadiums, give it a miss, save the money and go and buy Glassjaw's 'Everything you ever wanted to know about silence'. You might learn a thing or two about how metal should be

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
they were very disappointing, and i'd looked forward to seeing them. in particular the vocals were distressingly shit - he was literally unable to hold a tune. maybe he should rest his voice before they start bouncing around arena stages...

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
1st album was pretty vacuous with 2 or 3 good songs on but delivered much promise
2nd album has 5 or 6 good songs with more promise
they write good pop metal and know they do
they enjoy their music and want others to as well
I guess they just not angry no more
you can't say they're too fashionable
because then you've got to say that every hiphop, emo and metal act dress too fashionably, i.e. the same as everyone else in the genre - baggy trews, side parted hair or etc
they love their fashion
do you not look at what clothes you're buying or does your mother dress you, do you not style your hair or does your mother do that too
but glassjaw. yes it is good. maybe try a bit of early cave in. or every time i die.
don't think lostprophets are really trying to be in the same category though

The funny thing is they are strying to claim that this is their first album proper and the first was a demo.
I liked their "demo", but I think Start Something is over-produced wanna-be-on-american-radio shite. They still try live, but when the songs are half speed, there's not much they can do.
But yeah on the pile of "used to be good".

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
Along with Hundred Reasons. They were absolutley shocking at Reading. What was the rap to "Falter" all about?
Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
Dude what the hell on you on about? The new album is wannabe American pop rock bullshit that deserves nothing but the disrespect it cries out for.
Ok the fashion thing, touche, you got me, everyone wants to be fashionable, right? but the point i was trying to iterate is that their new album sucks and so does their new 'punk rock' image.
Their first album thrust them into the same category as glassjaw but the second release saw them side by side with Good Charlotte and all this other American teenage angst ridden pop/rock. I was a fan of the first album, it was quality, but what happened?

It was a Public Enemy verse. I think it was 'Bring The Noise' but it's a bit hazy. Normally I'd smite someone for not knowing, but I'm not in the smiting mood.
Admittedly, Colin shouldn't rap. Ever.

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
and the 1st album was wannabe american pop metal - nothing anywhere even close to being near to anything even slightly Glassjaw - which is why I don't understand your current stance
they never bought in to anything TO sell out
they are the same now as they ever were
just tell me exactly when Lee wasn't so damn pretty pulling his rock god moves on the monitors
tell me when Jamie wasn't posing about on some peripheral paraphernalia in stupid clothes
doesn't Ian look exactly the same now as he did before except he has got a couple more tattooes
you see?

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
Yes, I knew what it was, (because I recocnised the first line; “Bass! How low can you go? Death row. What a brother knows” but what was he doing? He was rubbish!
LostProphets getting arena-sized
I like Lostprophets. I think it's more a case of it's now fashionable to hate them. They can't help being attractive, what do you want them to do? Slash their faces? It's each to their own, how they dress and how they look shouldn't detract from the music. I enjoy them, I think they're fantastic musicians and I think they put on a good show at Leeds.
Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
I see my friend, I see but I don't think the first album was wannabe American shite, it was new and original and seemed to have a edge that no other British band had at that time. The beats were uptempo and different, the riffs were fast and hazy and the overall feel was harder and LESS commercial.
You have a point, in that the band may not have changed but my ears tell me that the music has. I was an avid listener and a big fan of the fake sound of progress, i even queued for hours to get them to sign the sodding album sleeve!
I guess I'm just bitter and dissapointed because a decent band that were once great are now not living up to their previous potential. The band have always been pretty(?) but the standout tracks of the first album like '...and she told me to leave' and 'ode to summer' could have cut it with any of the big name metal bands.
I guess we should agree to disagree?

Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
i think they are all pretty ugly but hey what do i know im not a girl.
LostProphets getting arena-sized
Well, on the subject of how they look, I wouldn't say no to Jamie, Lee, Ian or that Mike that isn't the drummer.
Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
No to what, shall we play another crap tuneless song. If so, right on sista!
LostProphets getting arena-sized
They're ugly and they make ugly music. End of.
Re: LostProphets getting arena-sized
Maybe because their new album sucks dirty milk from the devil's flute?
LostProphets getting arena-sized
If I was of the female gender, I wouldn't let that one with the porno moustache within twenty feet of me.
LostProphets getting arena-sized
Burn Burn...ripping off the intro to "Mother Mary"? Discuss.
Colin Doran's rap in "Falter"...never again please, but good for a one off laugh.
Lostprophets only to sellout all the dates on tour due to the fact Head Automatica are now supporting? You damn right they will.
They weren't even selling out standing at Hammersmith till HA got announced.

i agree with raz totally on his first defensive post on lost prophets. i thought exactly the same. theyre talented, and write brilliant songs. so it may be a little poppy now, but that won't last forever. its just the pressure of popularity to create songs like that. 2 albums time theyre be back to thefakesoundofprogress. we are godzilla you are japan saves that cd
LostProphets getting arena-sized
Well, I agree with the people at the beginning of this board. I saw them a Glastonbury, they were shit.
I went along to see them as they are the only heavyish band at the festival. Can't believe how bad it was, I kept waiting for a tune, and there wasn't one! Even Sinobi Vs Dragon Ninja was crap, and I like that. I dragged my mate along to to see them, I was embaressed I did!

wHOOPEE Shit.
I remember these and Earthtone 9 being hailed as a new wave of Welsh hardcore when they first came out. Fuck's sake.

I like the Lostprophets second album over the first. I dunno why, I just do. Probably because I thought Still Laughing from "Fakesoundofprogress" was a really shit song and I like the entire new album.
