Who? Well, you probably know Duncan Lloyd from his day job - guitarist with North East indie types Maximo Park. He's about to unleash a solo LP (Seeing Double, out October 6 via Warp), so we thought we'd invite him to produce a mixtape for us. He complied, and even gave it a title Sounds Like: A Mixtape. Enjoy...

I wouldn't expect that from a guy in maximo park
Regional Label Error
Mackems? They are nowhere near Mackem. The colloquial term of Mackem depicts a Sunderland birth. For a Newcastle based band, consisting of one lad from derby, one from york, one from India, one from stockton-on-tees and one from god knows where. If your going to generalise they should be 'Geordies', because they are based in Newcastle and have been for a while. Or since Paul Smith is the forefront of the band you could call them 'Smoggies', as a Middlesborough (more or less stockton) reference.
We're passionate about that up here you know!
My bad
I was with some Geordies just the other day who claimed they were a Sunderland band rather than a Newcastle band, suggesting Mr Smith was from that neck of the woods. I shall amend forthwith.
What did you expect?!
For him to pick The Futureheads album?!
Now I just feel guilty
Never trust a geordie! Haha. Sweet mixtape though. Its a good running idea as an article.
oh wait
i get it now!
Cool
Pylon
:D
You kinda undermined your point...
by mis-spelling Middlesbrough. We're kinda passionate about that.
this
is an excellent, excellent mixtape:
Minutemen
NaS
WIPERS!!!
MV & EE
i like this man.
Tis a shame
Just a pity his own music sounds like Brian Wilson defecating pon' Elvis Costello... Im also not too keen on how he advertises himself everywhere as 'MAXIMO PARKS! duncan lloyd', even on press releases. He has basically written a soundtrack to a Maximo Park publicity campaign tour.
Im pretty sure Albert Hammond Jnr didn't write 'STROKES DUDE!' all over his work when it came through the office.
If your going to go solo, go solo!
Lets face it
He'd be an idiot not to use the fame of Maximo to promote himself and its more of a side project than a solo project. His album doesn't do much for me anyways, nice bloke though.
Shut up
you inbred tart.
so its a...
side project, thats dump, and only has coverage because of Maximo ties...
point?
Inbred -naturally inherent; innate; native: her inbred grace.
Just read your posts, realised you talk shite on a regular basis. So i wil dismiss your comment as the local twat having a bad day and taking it out on me.
