The Tuesday DiScussion: Your favourite music videos of the past six years
There was a slight smell of urine around the DiSopolis last week when MTV2 got back to us to say, "Yeah, of course fellas, you can celebrate the anniversary of your wonderful website by picking your favourite videos of the past six years for 120 Minutes." Somewhat understandably, we wet our boxers with excitement.
Following a smelly few hours in the pub exlaiming "Wow, we can dump that band's music on the ears and eyes of an unsuspecting audience!" and "OH EM GEEE... that video was amazing!", we began to wonder just what makes a certain video so much greater than so many others. We soon reached a point where there weren't enough suggestions on the table to fill two hours: obviously lots of our favourite songs weren’t released as singles, and many of the singles we love don’t have videos as such, as making one wasn’t a commercially viable project, or something. Also, this is web 2.0 so we didn't wanna keep all the fun to ourselves, like some crazed dictators of taste.
So we're compiling a phat list of videos we would like shown, especially ones you'd almost never see. What we'd like is for you to suggest some of your favourite videos of the past six years (with links to youtube.com or Google Video, if you can find them) and say why you like it. Why? Because we'll be running quotes from you lovely people across the screen when our selections are broadcast.
Here’s five videos we heart that are rather likely to make our two-hour show...
We've shown you some of our choices, so now DiScuss yours! Remember to post links wherever possible, too!

This Week's Singles by The Lipster: 02/03/09
Yeah
Latchmere's got a wave machine! Classic. Also Spacemen 3 'Revolution', The Dandy Warhols 'Not If You Were The Last Junkie' and The Cure's 'Lullaby' spring to mind.
planes
made a video for Spring Divorce. It's just live footage, but it would be planes on mtv2...
well...

being, Jacknuggeted by Caribou. If I could pick one video to show it would be this, because it's a lovely video that perfectly captures the brilliance of the song, AND it has people with giant white heads. I first saw it on 120 minutes as well, which was how I discovered Caribou, so it's very appropriate.
i still
reckon Obstacle 1 by Interpol is the best music video in the world. everything about is just so well shot, and the best bit is that it suits the song.
Sorry!
Had me reminiscing about good videos from way back when!
System Of A Down - 'Toxicity' is pretty ace. So is 'Danger High Voltage' by Electric Six even if the song itself has dated worse than 1999's advent calendar.
spot on
was going to say that. without doubt my flavour 'fave'
I was gonna recommend
that at the drive-in. best live performance ever!
how about this one:
Isis- in fiction
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zxU5kbxy68
i can't see any of the videos above
so i'll say two off the top of my head:
murder of rosa: a time to bee
the faint: agenda suicide
well brown :)
I haven't seen MTV2 for aaaages
so I've seen a video for someone good in years. But 2 good ones that I remember are:
Catalyst - Oceansize
Breaking the Back - Million Dead
Supergrass always had good videos back in the day, they must have done something good in the last 6 years.
Also, Chemical Brothers - Let Forever Be (but I doubt that's the kind of thing they'd want from DiS)
fave videos
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control
British Sea Power - Remember Me
Super Furry Animals - Golden Retriever
Radiohead - Pyramid Song
I always used to get mesmerised by this:
The Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBgf2ZxIDZk
I don't really see why that At The Drive-In one is special.
All I wanna say is
"BJORK" - 'All is Full of Love'
"SIGUR ROS" - 'Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása'
the energy is insane, just the way they move around the stage
I don't know, but that live video always makes me want to be at that show right at the front, dancing on stage. its just so punck rock. for want of a better phrase.
lcd soundsystem
tribulations is a belter wee vid
and why? (didn't read that bit)
because it is one of the weirdest most haunting videos I have ever seen. and that song makes me need to pee.
Saw this the other day
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-HSkedaNcg
The Priscillas. Wonder why it hasn't been shown more on MTV2?

That ATDi video
Is what secured my undying love for them.
Windowlicker.
my favourite videos of the last 6 years:
Spank Rock - Rick Rubin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ONvi5SFR8I
it's an awesome song, and the video compliments it perfectly. it makes me want to do heavy drugs and wear bright neon clothes like it's the 80s.
Afrirampo - Afrirampo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPX33Paq-KM
it just looks so fun and gives you a great impression of what the live show is like.
Hot Snakes - Braintrust
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uY4NVp5Hbf0
it's AWESOME.
The Unicorns - I Was Born A Unicorn

Lua by Bright Eyes.
There's not really mcuh to the video, as I'm sure you'll know, but it fits the song so well. And it's an amazing song.

At The Drive In - Invalid Litter Dept
http://youtube.com/watch?v=CwzcjQq1llw
Just really powerful and visceral and lends a whole new dimension to the song I think.
Blur - Out Of Time
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PxiSMrzrDSo
Mainly for the last minute and a bit, which is really beautiful.
Okkervil River - For Real
http://youtube.com/watch?v=JDd4KezAFv8
Dark surrealism, great animated video.
The Shins - New Slang
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=569003818422683389&q=shins+new+slang
I think there's been more than one video for this song but anyway, this one is just really sweet and it makes me feel happy and quite sad at the same time.
sigur ros
glosoli... one of the greatest videos ever
and
boards of canada - dayvan cowboy
This:
Weezer - Island in the sun
The one where they chuck cuddly animals round in the sun.
...
i guess thsat was made in '99 but i would have gone for that too.
or 'theresa's sound world' sonic youth.
why not....
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With The Flow
Foo Fighters - Low
White Stripes - Fell In Love In Girl
Kanye West - Touch The Sky
because...
i've seen them all a MILLION times.
Any Sigur Ros - particularly Glosoli and Vidrar Vel Til Loftarasa
Death Cab For Cutie - Move Script Ending
Pavement - Gold Soundz
Cat Power - He War
Also, they used to host the videos for Idlewild - Everyone Says You're So Fragile and I'm a Message on the old website but they were rubbish quality so I'd love to see them as well as any pre-Remote Part idlewild.
Actually it's Darkness is probably my favourite video.
*movie
.
anything..
with shamelessly slippery slut xtina aguilera, preferably dancing around in as little garb as possible.
i find britney spears a tad fat these days, mayhap she needs to get back to been a trailer park slaaayyyyyygggg.
bjjjjjork
how predictable, but can you get any better than this?
Triumph Of A Heart:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwRJqNLUt_E
That Clor vid gets my vote
and interpol - obstacle 1
Yes Yes Yes
That one HAS, I say HAS to go on.
i don't see many videos
but here are a few obvious ones
Grandaddy - the crystal lake
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEHwkWyWD0Q
particularly for the gleefully dancing bear
Sigur Ros - Vaka (untitled 1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbqMz7pGv5A
all their videos are great, but somehow this chimed more than the others, perhaps it was the timing of its realease? Plus it won some mtv music award which was just surreal
Johnny cash - hurt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go
it's an extraordinary bit of music, but even just looking at his face is enough
Avalanches - frontier psychiatrist
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQGseV3vIwk
tee hee
coldcut - revolution
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6KnJ0k_u7w
the lunatics are taking over the airwaves
Belle and sebastian - lazy line painter jane
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUXNCTFEURE
captures something of the naive essence of their early magic. ok, obviously a bit older than 6, but the dvd came out in 2003 and i can't believe it was much seen before then.
2nd third and
a thousand times over,!!!! yes !!!!
This video is incredible.
best vid of last 6
knights of cydonia-muse
hands down the most deranged, original and well executed.
