Yeah, there were sceptics. People doubting the worth of a news story that was, admittedly, conjecture.

“Band want to play festival. Lineup not yet announced”

Pithy.

“IS THIS NEWS?!??!?!?!”

Withering. Still, good thing we did report it, ‘cause now Super Furry Animals have been confirmed for this year’s Green Man Festival and Drowned in Sound’s taking all the credit for the link-up.

Gruff Rhys, Guto Pryce and the rest of the Welshmen will head to Glanusk Park in Brecon Beacons to play their award-winning native festival, headlining the main stage on Saturday the 16th of August; the second night of three.

Adult weekend tickets for the event cost £105 and include on-site camping and parking. Entry is free for those below 12. You can be one of 10,000 in attendance – ‘intimate’, for a festival – by visiting TheGreenManFestival.co.uk and parting with cash.

You can read all of Kate Hewett and Rob Webb's fan-directed interview here. They're like a modern day Antony and Cleopatra.

Gruff's solo set

...at last year's Green Man was magical

one of the few outdoor UK festivals worth bothering with, in my opinion

I thought they wanted to play early...

..so they could go and get battered.

they were battered...

...when they headlined End Of The Road last year

that was awesome too, Bunf's birthday if memory serves

hot cider all round

you fucking beauty!

I bought tickets from this years Green Man a couple of months ago and was hoping SFA would be playing. The fact they are headlining is even better. This has made my day.

Gruff did such a great job on the main stage with his solo set last year too so this is pretty much guaranteeing the weekend will be amazing.

Green Man 07

would have been the dogs ballsack if it hadn't been so damn muddy and wet. As it was, my best festie prize went to Bestival via a sun-shaped loophole.

However! The general atmosphere of Green Man is beautiful; the landscape is incredible, and although the music is folk at heart, it's also increasingly becoming as alternative as ATP.

If the Furries are on board for 2008, count me in!

ps

any Welsh language pop fans out there might want to check out the new Radio Crymi Playlist Volume 2 from Ankst. It's reviewed here: http://www.artrocker.com/node/1098

Green Man 07

Its the welsh mountains. Its supposed to rain there. Even if '06 was surprisingly dry.

But SFA will make things uber special. Lets just hope my other prediction for this year, Bat For Lashes (using the logic Newsom played '05 then '07, and BFL played '06), comes true.
