Doolittle: No new Pixies record

There will be no new Pixies record for the foreseeable future.
Reluctance on the part of bassist Kim Deal and the pull of other projects have worked against reports last year of new studio produce.
Deal's band The Breeders are currently working with Steve Albini on a new album, while throater Frank Black has just released Bluefinger, the first record credited to his 'Black Francis' persona.
Said Black to The Gothamist: "While I may have tried to convince her otherwise, maybe she's got a point... She doesn't need a new Pixies record, so maybe there doesn't need to be one."
Maybe... a lack of reformation would be refreshing. DiScuss?

excited about a new breeders record than I would ever be about a new pixies record.

The best pixies songs
are better than the best breeders songs, but the breeders have never recorded a shit song in 3 albums. Pixies had two shit albums.
I'm kind of glad,
As Frank said: there doesn't need to be one. Mind you, they didn't need to reform either, especially since it was so half-arsed and unenthusiastic. They could have conceivably produced something else brilliant if they weren't too busy at each others throats or just wanted to.
This said, I was happy clutching my Surfer Rosa and Doolittle records tightly.

They were great when I saw them. Probably a good thing they aren't releasing anything, though. Bam Thwok was no great shakes.

I suppose it saves the inevitable below-par Pixies effort so I think it's a good thing they have binned off making a new album.
Maybe Kim heard The Cure's latest album
and decided nothing was worth the danger of sounding that bad!

new record is supposed to be made up of demos intended for the Pixies, and I've heard it's really good! It's called... er... Bluefinger (I think)
It's pretty rubbish
You can tell which tracks were intended for the Pixies. All Quiet/Loud and female backing vocals. Still better than most of Blacks solo stuff but still seriously lacking.
They'd be crazy
to tarnish their legacy.
Who says they would?
I don't think they would if they made another album.
We have the Kings instead
If we can't have a new Pixies record then the new Kings Of Leon single will make a good substitute :)
