What are you doing for lunch next week? Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree are meeting to discuss the reformation of Blur.
The gathering will represent a significant cooling in relations for a band that as far as the press are concerned haven't been in the same room since 2002.
“We are having lunch on Monday which is nice, I’m not sure where,” explained bassist Alex James to Gigwise.
"If we can all agree on where to have lunch that will be a very good start.”
Sounding undecided about the prospect of recording new material, James answered those suggestions with a: “God knows, God knows, but it [lunch] will be the first time the four of us have met for a good few years.”
“I don’t think we’d do that reforming and playing ‘Parklife’ anymore, I don’t know if Damon and Graham would be up for that...mind you it’s a good song…what the fuck.”
Something on the cards? Care? DiScuss.
Deadly
this can either be very good
or embarassing.
It'd be good
if they all got together to do one last good Blur album and then split for good directly afterwards. I believe this to be the best of a large number of wank possibilities
I like Alex James
he makes me laugh.
I want this to happen
Seriously.
A lot of times bands get back together, it's a bad idea. But I just can't see Blur messing it up. I can't. Provided they can agree on anything.
...and if they do reform
- any chance of them making a truly raucous noise as per Leisure or Blur or the crunchy bits of 13 as opposed to the Great Escape style gloss? Just don't get back together and go Britpop flavoured Dadrock on us...
"Just don't get back together and go Britpop flavoured Dadrock on us..."
yeah, if i want that i can just listen to Graham's last two solo LPs.
oooooooooooh, you cat
got a point though
bf
yeah...his solo lps are just bad
apart from The Golden D
which rocks buckets
.
I dont think that will happen. If Blur or Albarn albums in the past show anything its that you cant really predict what it will sound like. Its not crazy experimental of their nuts like Radiohead unpredictable but its still always impressive
this will be the worst thing ever
although admittedly not as cringe worthy as the sex pistols reforming. Jesus christ.
Britpop?
If you honestly think that there's a chance Blur would come back all Britpop, then I think you must be mildly retarded. They're a bit too intelligent to do that.
Look guys...
...if you think this is gonna be some 'let's all do a whip round for the boys, hands in pockets' style affair (see - Smashing Pumpkins, Stooges, Pixies) then you really know fuck all about Blur. There will be NO BRITPOP. What there will be is Damon smoking a tonne of weed in the studio whilst El Coxo melts people's faces off with every FX pedal invented. I hope...
Let's hope this works out for the best.
Seems funny that Alex James is like the "official quotesperson" of all Blur-reformation news...guess it's due to his media-saturation
this is gonna be good
guaranteed.
Let's hope Alex James decides to commit suicide
before he gets any more publicity.
Hehe,
I don't like him either. Smarmy get.
By the way, what does 'bf' mean when it's used as a title, a la 'grockle' up there?
I feel I may be the minority but...
I've never liked Blur in fact they bore me senseless, nearly as much as Snow Patol or Supergrass, no wait thats a bit to far. Seriously though I just don't get them at all, to me Parklife is an awful song, is it supposed to sound so unpolished, is that it's charm or something. The lyrics are pointless and his voice is irritating beyond belief. I'm not the type of person who beieves clever lyrics can improve songs, not for me anyway. Bad lyrics certainly can ruin them though. Anyway I've rambled on for far to long and I'm clearly incapable of writting short comments. Have to say that Blur are still miles better than Oasis though!
give it a fucking rest
at least
you're right about one thing =]
good to see
you've based your entire opinion of a band who've released seven critically acclaimed albums on a novelty single they released more than ten years ago
Not entirely
I simply pointed out that I hate Parklife and think it's terrible. I've listened to a lot of their stuff, my best mate likes them. I don't judge bands on one song, that wouldn't be right.
Fingers crossed!
YEY!
:)
omg i dont even think
that parklife is good nar in fact its werll shit but damon is fit tho lol rofl who do you like best alex or graham?????!! OLOLOL. cant i even have an opinion cos tgats what you are allowed omg omg rofl lol arg
I LIKE CHEESE !!
I just wonder if they do reform and play live together what exactly would the set list be?? ... Coxon's solo stuff has been awesome in my opinion, he has released nearly as many solo albums as he did with blur and hopefully he will be the main force behind the new album with damon's charmed lyrics, alex's laid back bass and poor old dave at the back voting labour!
blur were a good band
and remained that way till they split up, no matter now alienating some may have found "Think Tank"
it's not like the Who reforming, and bringing a lot of the ideas they had back in the 70's back to today. of course the Who still appeal to a great many people, and they didn't gain their 'legend' status by doing nothing, but Blur are a relevant band. their music is still relevant in today's society, and so it should be considering they were still about 5 or so years ago.
apart from Democrazy, their solo projects were all quite good too, but it's the band we're talking about here, a bunuch of people UNIFIED to make music. there's no point in talking about their solo projects as if thats somehow supposed to have an effect on their output as a band. (well it does a wee bit, but not too much)
so can we pleeeeeeeeeez stop the BLur bashing? :)
