DiS presents... Hovefestival 2007

hovefestival square island

This year, DrownedinSound.com is expanding its horizons and making inroads into the magical world of continental Europe.

We've plenty to announce and unveil over the coming months, but we're more than happy to start by letting you know about one of the biggest and most exciting of all: the inaugural Hovefestival, in Norway, with which we are in close media partnership.

Hove is a five-day, Monday-to-Friday event featuring three stages during the day and four in the evening. Hove will have one of the most eco-friendly attitudes towards festival organisation in history: from simple ideas like promotional items being printed on recycled paper, through to proper, organic food and 1,000 bikes for free use around the beautiful site, the festival will do its bit for the planet.

Additionally, all transport and generators on site will be running on bio-ethanol, a sustainable eco-friendly fuel and Hovefestival will be neutralising all carbon emissions by funding a rainforest regeneration charity to balance all carbon outputted throughout the course of the whole festival.

Across the course of the five days, Hovefestival will play host to 40 international acts and 40 Nordic artists, plus DJs well into the night, with a progressive and all-encompassing attitude towards booking that has highlighted festivals like All Tomorrow's Parties so well in the UK.

From the 5,000 capacity amphitheatre, dug into the side of a hill, to DJs and live PAs in the woods and on the beach throughout the day and night, Hovefestival will be a week to remember for a long time - and that's before you've even seen who is playing. On-site camping and chalets are available, and Hove is the world's first festival with an option to stay on a boat moored in the festival site's harbour.

Stages will be hosted by DrownedinSound.com, Domino Records, Rough Trade Records, The Luminaire and respected London-based promoters Eat Your Own Ears. Tom Baker of EYOE spoke to DiS earlier today and commented on the festival:

"I'm really excited to be hosting a stage in a new territory, particularly at a festival with an amazing setting."

Personally, I think Tom is most excited by the hot tubs on the beach. He's good like that.

DiS is the worldwide on-line media partner for Hovefestival 2007 and you can expect exclusive line-up announcements (seriously, you'll want to know those), live coverage from the site, package deals and more. Stay tuned.

Hovefestival 2007 runs from June 25th-29th and you can look at more photos now by clicking this link; the UK site launches 1st February. Enjoy and stay tuned for inital line-ups real soon.

about £135 for 5 days, nice!

ticket link

http://www.ticketmaster.no/html/home.htmI
english available on the site, search for hovefestivalen and tickets magically appear

This sounds awesome

But Norway is like THE most expensive place ever!

Me too

I almost get excited. Fucking Norway, fat lot of use that is.

the weather will be better

and the girls prettier
if that is of any consolation?

Hove Girls

are hot.

!!!

indeed.

Me three

Can't they rename the festival?

that looks and sounds gorgeous

good luck with it!

Jay Z festival?

.

tee hee

will they have a beyonce castle?!

...i'll get my coat...

this could be stunning

but hopefully I'll be at glastonbury, so getting time and money to get to this too seems unlikely

It is positively unreal

how much i feel i NEED to go to this.

i would love too, but it seems very expensive

and i will probably be at glastonbury

same price as london

on most articles anyway

if

the glastonbury ticket lottery does not go well for me i will seriously consider going to this. anyone have any idea how much flights/ferry and everything (like rough food prices) would be?

i am so excited about this

Norway > Glastonbury for me...

Norway i expensive, i know

See ryanair.com. London - Oslo... If you are lucky you can find flight tickets for 20-30£ both ways. (about 2 ours with bus to the festival) The food prices are allmost the same as london. In a regular food store a bottle of beer is 1 £. It is expensive, but nothing to cry about. But believe me, the festival is going to be worth it!

travel info and beer pricesetc

you can fly to Torp which is a Ryan Air airport with direct from standtead and thats about 90 mins away or you can get a ferry from Newcastle to Kristiansand which is 45 minuttes away. Camping will cost 15 pounds per person for the whole week, it opens 3 days before and there will be cinema on campsite for early arrivals, and thats also mid summers day with almost 24 hour daylight. the beer will cost normal shop prices at the camping area.

looks beautiful

and sounds great.

Make a change to Glastonbury, wunnit, eh?

Eh?

Will wait for the bill, but I have a passport now.
It's about time I had a look at Europe.

Right on.

i love norway

this is seriously tempting

looks so pretty!

staying on a boat? that's well fancy :)

I thought this was going to be in Hove

as in 'Hove'. as in Brighton & Hove.

what a DiSappointment.

Oh god.

me too :-(

in other news, flying there potentially makes a sham of the concept.

but if there is a ferry

that would be awesome

ferry

there is a overnight ferry from Newcastle to Kristiansand which is 45 minuttes away

That ferry is a party as well

Well, you can make it a party.
The Hovefestival is a breakaway from the Quart Festival, which means it's going to be so damn good.

party ferry ftw

i love things like that

carbon neutral

there are schemes where you can donate money to a fund to repay the Co2 you use by flying

fucking useless

schemes that do nothing to solve the route of the problem...just ease the conscience of the passenger slightly. the boat is way more fun also.

if you decide you absolutely have to go

then you should carbon neutralise. but it's about 1000x better to just not fly.

The plane goes

whether you're on it or not, though.

It wouldn't

if none of us used it.

True

But then we'd kinda be back in the 19th century, really. Two month cruises to the World Cup.

come on

you KNOW that would be ace fun.

I love the idea of staying on a moored boat

on the harbour.. that sounds fan-fucking-tastic... I'd very much consider going to this.. once line up announced... and depending on finances (Norway = expensive)...

bloody brilliant

norway? yes please.

so it's in june...AS levels, you say? boo. I knew I should have dropped out at 16. Means I prob won't be able to do Glasto either :(

So who is playing?

can I play?

These are:

Neurosis, Hatebreed and 1990s have been confirmed plus a few scandinavian bands.

FUCKING 1990s

must they ruin everything.

CSS are playing though! yay!

CAN I PLAY?!

please?

We'll do it for free!

I'm actually pretty annoyed about this

I thought I'd figured out the whole Scandinavian festival thing, which is why I'd already bought my Roskilde ticket. Hove is cheaper and looks like it's gonna kick some giant ass. Also, I speak Norwegian, Danish is beyond me.

Hove cheaper than Roskilde?!?!

I don't know where you got that Hove is cheaper than Roskilde?!?!
I live in Norway, the tickets are about the same price but in Denmark you get 3-4 cases of beer for one in Norway... And the line-up on Roskilde will be bigger and in most eyes better:P
Hove looks great though, I'm going if finances allow it, hope it's gonna be better than Quart 'cuz as a festival it sucks:S

I meant travel

The ticket is marginally cheaper. Beer is cheaper at Roskilde. Having been to Quart twice before and Roskilde last year, I'd say it's about twice as much to drink at Quart, and twice as much to smoke. I live in South Africa and in the past I've found it's often cheaper to get to Oslo than to Copenhagen, for God knows what reason.

However, having thought about it, seeing as Hove is the week before Roskilde, Roskilde should have most of Hove's bands and more. I'm happy again.

Det er bare at jeg elsker Norge, jeg.

Also

wanted to say Quart is a GREAT festival to see bands. I saw more bands at Quart than at Roskilde. It's just the atmosphere that's seriously lacking :P

Well, whatever

this isn't actually Quart, is it? It's in an entirely different location, with new people behind it (excluding a notable handful) and a whole new outlook.

Go and piss on someone else's chips.

Haha, no, it isn't Quart

I was only comparing prices - which are unlikely to be much different at Hove. You can't change Norwegian alcohol taxes.

Anyway, Hove looks like it'll rock a helluva lot more than Quart and I'm genuinely considering Hove before Roskilde, if I can raise the cash.

It's Toffen Gunnufsen

the "notable handful", is it? An enormous positive for the festival.

This looks scarily good

I WANT to go.

Shame I probably won't be.

Was interesting to see that it only takes 45 minutes on a ferry to get to Scandinavia from Newcastle. I had no idea.

Just looked at those artists too...OMG I WANT TO GO!!!

Erhm

It doesn't take 45 minutes by ferry to Kristiansand, it takes 45 minutes to get to the festival from Kristiansand. The ferry uses several hours.

I'm Norwegian myself, and I'm rather torn between Hove and Roskilde. A lot of people from my school, a so-called folkhighschool (you've propbably got no idea whatsoever about what it is), are planning to have a special camp for our school at Roskilde, but I really wanna attend the first ever Hovefestival! I've loved Quarten the two years I went, and I promise you - After going to Hove or Quart, you wont look at other festivals the same way again. The facilities are great! The toilets don't smell, you get toilet paper and can wash your hands, there are tons of choices when it comes to food, and the surroundings are stunning! <3

And to those who want it to change it's name - It's situated at a place called Hove, right outside of Arendal. I don't feel the least bit sorry for you for messing up names, but I understand the way you think of course.

I am so excited about this

oh yes

I've already booked holiday off work

I am only taking holiday to be hungover. That means I can be hungover for 40 more days. WINNER!

...

My staggeringly beautiful Norwegian girlfriend just called it off with me.
So I'm very down. But this could my way to break the Norway jinx... it looks amazing!

I heart Norway.

mastodon and slayer

added

this sounds like...

my dreams, manifested in a festival!!!

40 Nordic bands? Bring 'em on!

If you're worried about the price take the ferry (apparently the most fun you'll have on a boat, ever, in your lifetime) and take your own booze (beer is much cheaper here), or go via Germany (beer is much cheaper there).
