The latest offering from the vital and energized Ankst fable-label-stable brings us a delightfully fingerfuckin E.P. from 5-piece mongrel pop-psych brassnecked beatlifters Zabrinski, and, Iesu Mawr, it’s a crumblowin’, ffansi-that flipperclap, and no mistakin’.
Lead track Executive Decision is a typically slanted-visage tripped-in, chased-out vision of twatted-up smalltown inbred communities, misled and braindead; with Matthew Durbridge’s Eurotic evocations of _‘bombs coming down upon your head / Flashing blue and red’ holding sway over a rabid, leash-straining, filtered-narcperc fabrickbacking that stumbles and scrambles and nearly, nearly falls in a haze of frustration and desperate powerlessness…
... that is, until Durbridge joyously reveals the secret, the executive decision, the answer almost, over a ludicrous happyclappy brass section(ed) bouncing round the padded walls of an insistent and hyperventilating squidgy shakershod drumloop, fashionable and frenetic, a fuggy flurry of insanity and incision… and the man, he say…
“Do what you want / what you want to do”.
Simple innit really.
Unbelievers beware. It’s a slice of quality pop-scar passion that is insidious and invigorating.
Backed by the hip-trot Bergendie Melys-melt of ‘Seal My Cave’, all silly strings, hippy-beam and squirming scanditronica, the Flowered-Down spliffed-up rehearsal workout ‘Idi Eide I’, and ‘Koala Co-Ordination’_ – eponymous track from last year’s much lauded debut album - ‘Executive Decision’ is a popular, furry, zygotic release that is at turn sweet, spastic, happy and Harpic.
