I saw Islet live a few weeks back at Brighton's Great Escape. It was an odd but rewarding experience indeed. The more traditional barriers between crowd and band were fluid, and the frequency at which they swapped instruments was hard to keep up with. They played with gusto. They've also recently tour with Los Campesinos! amongst others.
The Cardiff-based Quartet release a debut mini-album (some might call it an EP...) on June 14, entitled _Celebrate This Place, through Turnstile Music. It comes out on limited edition 12" vinyl as well as digitally, of course. It was self-recorded in both a barn in Wales and a bedroom in Cardiff. Which one was more spacious? We don't know.
We've got a free download from the mini-album which can be obtained below. I'm not even sure if they have a MySpace yet, which is a tad annoying, so this is a good opportunity to sample the goods.
Islet also have a few festival appearances over the course of the Summer, so if you're going to any of the below festivals then stick them on your 'to see' list. OK?
July:
16 - Suffolk, Latitude Festival Lake Stage
25 - Steventon, Truck Festival Barn Stage
August:
21 - Green Man Festival
September:
26 - Gloucester, Guildhall
