There's something of a buzz around The Morenas at the moment and, with their debut album on the way this summer, 'It Shouldn't Mata' is the first step of their bid for fame. Will it work? I don't see why not.
'It Shouldn't Mata' (the spelling's because it's about Mata Hari, they're not channelling Tim Westwood) is another of those songs that take all the usual trappings of their genre (in this case it's 21st century indie rock, complete with Jeff Buckley-wannabe vocals, the faint strains of a string quartet, a hint of funk in the bass and a dollop of anthem in the chorus) and combine them into a satisfying if unadventurous piece of music.
A solid, well-crafted song then that'll keep Razorlight fans happy on Johnny Borrell's day off.
