Written From Negative

They Dance Like That In Clubs

Label: Big Scary Monsters Release Date: 23/02/2004

Mike_Diver by Mike Diver February 19th, 2004

Loin-moistening stuff this, in the vein of arch-angularists Q And Not U,* Black Eyes* and This Ain’t Vegas. Like TAV, Written From Negative hail from the current hotbed of underground rock activity that is the North East, Sunderland to be specific, and demand that you hear their message loud and clear – it’s not about what you wear or how you do your hair, it’s about this. This is passionate, feverish punk rock that both stems from and aims for the heart as much as the head, whilst always keeping one beady, blinking eye on the dancing shoes. After all, they do_ dance in clubs, you know, and so they should if this is what's regularly on offer. The b-side to this fancily-packaged sliver of vinyl (7" only, CD fans), ‘A Life In A Morning With…’, is equally impressive. Don’t ask me what its lyrics are about – I was too busy dancing with my own shadow to notice – but _do ensure you take notice of these boys whilst they’re still on the early rungs of the ladder, as this release definitely marks the beginning of something really special.
