Homesleep Singles Club No. 5

Label: Homesleep Records Release Date: 09/09/2003

joe_shoo by Shoo September 11th, 2003

One of them nasty ol’ side-projects this may be, featuring members of Black Heart Procession, Soul Junk and Trumans Water, but this is one triumvirate that proves that when talents of this calibre collide, often the results can be explosive.

Or should that be implosive? The fifth release in the excellent Homesleep Singles Club collection features two introspective, woozy tunes that continue the Italian label’s tradition of awake-too-long, dark-circle medication; floppy-brained elusive groovemandering that serpents its way under your winesoaked defences.

Both tracks slither away and pass the 8 minute barrier – but both the waybelow frazzle of ’Dark Is The Mirror’ and the altogether more – well - stereoscopic splitspiritspit of ’You Take The Time Away’ retain the label’s superb ethos, pitched somewhere between Berlin-era Lou Reed and early Pavement. Which, as we know, is a fuckin decent starting point, innit?
