‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’. ‘God Gave Rock N Roll To You’. ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’. ’On With The Show’.
You see the link? Well kick down the door and shove firecrackers up my arse cos The Darkness have officially made the most pompous, rawk baiting, kiddie scaring, Freddie Mercury smoking, declaration of intent EVER!
It may sound melodramatic, it is. It may be completely and utterly gumby, who cares? It’s the sound of long sweaty car journeys to see KISS, Bon Jovi and Guns’ N ‘Roses at Donnington, with cheap beer, tight leather and bandanas.
The argument’s over, speak of nobody else. Observe *The Darkness. *

The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
My god! Peter in a song!
The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
I read your review a while ago and didn't believe in you.
Having heard the song last night I am convinced. Absolutely kicks arse. Definately the cream of the retro crop.

The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
My cousin in DC was going on about them, but said that people over there couldn't decide whether or not The Darkness were a tap-esque joke band. Funnily enough, even with an english sense of humour, nor can I. What I do know is that so far, everything I've heard by them (heard the album, and I've seen them three or four times this summer) has immediacy but hasn't the depth or substance that would grant it staying power... they certainly do rock, and Justin Hawkins is a great frontman, but I disagree with you when you compare 'I Believe..' with 'Sweet Child 'O'Mine' etc., Pete. The Darkness are ultra throwaway and ultra disposable, and so far I can't imagine any of their songs being on Virgin radios 2013 playlist... but maybe that's the point...

They want to be Spinal Tap.
Re: The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
What's wrong with being sexy?
I mean, uh, what's wrong with wanting to be Spinal Tap?

Re: The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
to be honest, there's infinitely more wrong in lauding the likes of Kinesis or a million grunting whining nu-metal numbskulls or whoever with some notion of critical and musical importance, than there is in enjoying the Darkness. for fucks sake!
(Kinesis can be substituted for any similarly justifiable object of hate, obviously)
pete (rockin' to The Darkness since 2000. you cuuuuunt!)

erm...
Why on earth should we give a flying fuck about Virgin's playlist, ever, anyway???!?
(It'll probably still be the same 30 records in a different order each day + the new Stereophonics single, anyway, in 2013...)

Re: The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
Think that original comment was made in September 2003. We need to add the year to our messageboard threads...

Re: wooaaahh....
Y'see I was going to take over Dominic Mohan's Bizarre column but they realised I more reactionary than Gary Bushell.
Although 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman' is fantastic it is of course not better than this. 'Love Is Only A Feeling' however is better than them all you cuuuunt!

Re: wooaaahh....
note to pete: this review was writ well over a year ago. not that that stops it being hyperbole, but it does place it a year outside of the context. mutha...

Re: The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Lov
Motorhead have always struck me as a bit of a cabaret act.
your right
The Darkness is a novelty group but thats what makes them great. It gives people somefing to talk about. Whether or not the band is for real. To tell you the truth the first time I saw the "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" video I laughed my ass off. And now I love it.
The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love
I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!1
