Hood

You Show No Emotion At All

Label: Domino Records Release Date: 22/04/2002

ltarry by Lucy Tarry April 24th, 2002

Taken from last year's fantastic album "Cold House", "You Show No Emotion At All" is a trademark Hood track - it demonstrates their skill for barren and desperate electronica, but combines it with a unique mix of twee indie vocals that at times trespass into Lambchop territory, with bleak lyrics and death-knell brass sections.

The intro might not sound out of place at an 80's leisure centre disco, but it's done with a fucked up and honest panache that makes it easy to see why they are the current darlings of Mogwai et al. Although Hood are too unpolished and rough around the edges to soundtrack an episode of "Sex in the City", (a la Mogwai), it's this rawness that marks them out from their peers and makes you love them that little bit more.
