Little Girl With Cherries

Demo #2

Label:

mharflett by Melissa Harflett March 7th, 2003

On picking up this demo, I thought to myself 'what a cute name', and half expected a cute and fluffy pop band, but instead we have three instrumental tracks in the vein of Mogwai - even down to the song titles Remove Your Face in the Name of R.O.C.K. - and a calmer Trail of Dead.

However Little Girl With Cherries are less complex and diverse than Mogwai. It is simple guitar, bass and drums, no samples, no vocals and no unexpected twists and turns.

LGWC can be mellow but the music can also have a frustrated edge to it, making me feel like they are stuck somewhere and feel like they can’t get out.

The style of the guitar during the second track, Hot Dang! reminds me of The Junket, another frustrated band, stopping and starting, slowing down and speeding up.

I like this demo, it shows promise but unfortunately it has all been done before, but I’ll keep my eye on them for an unexpected twist or turn.
