Koala’s first demo was one of the best demos I’ve ever heard and this; their second offering shows us that they’ve now developed into a fantastic band. As well as their own sound “psychedelic power pop” they’ve finally found a full time drummer in the shape of Daniel Strittmatter (ex High Llamas).**
The first two songs ‘Feels like your falling in love again’ and ‘Take the controls’ are a bit like the Beach Boys with their simple yet affective lyrics, infectious choruses and “ooohs” and with the strange samples and noises coming from the keyboard it’s bliss. ‘I don’t understand what you do to me’ starts like the rest but half way through they take a more sinister approach, as the guitars get heavier and louder than anything they’ve done before. The keyboard features more on the last song *‘Bob Wilson funfair’ *which is actually about how your friends can help you out when you’re depressed and nothing to do with Bob Wilson. The vocal duties on the CD are split between Gaz (bass) and Merv (guitar) and they’ve already started on their next demo with Tim singing.
Koala are the best unsigned band in the UK.
