Whirlwind Heat quit rabbit-spotting – it’s this year’s Big Mac guzzling – to bring us their great new ten-songs-in-ten-minutes mini album. Trademark gurgling basslines and moog leads are blended expertly here with even more Sonic Youthisms (‘The Bone’) and nuts Brainiac impressions (‘H Is O’) and, well, it’s all rather adorably sleazy.
Apparently, Brendan Benson is co-producing, which is kinda unnerving. It’s not like you’d expect a bumper-size chorus to drop in all unexpected, though. It would kinda ruin it. Nope, this is really great in the same way that Bratmobile were their bestest over 12 minutes on ‘The Real Janelle’ or Luscious Jackson were on their mini, ‘In Search Of Manny’. Size matters, but in music it works conversely. Less is more, thereby ‘Flamingo Honey’ is huuuuuge.
