charlotte gainsbourg's musical pedigree is no secret. the daughter of french avant-pop provocateurs serge gainsbourg and jane birkin, her predilection for sophisticated francophonic pop music is a birthright. gainsbourg's singing career got off to a contentious start with 'lemon incest,' a wildly suggestive duet with her father about paternal love. gainsbourg eschewed recording for awhile, concentrating on her acting career until 2006's '5:55', an album-length dream-team collaboration with air, jarvis cocker, tony allen and nigel godrich. gainsbourg has recently teamed up with the oddly ubiquitous beck to record the follow-up. 'irm', french for mri, features mr hansen's writing, production, mixing and backing vocals. beck's fingerprints are all over this one, and given his recent win streak, that's probably a good thing.
