the tape format is back in full effect and we at rough trade applaud that. super limited gig only tape version of the new ep, only available from the band and from rough trade. 'rainwater cassette exchange' was recorded in february with nicolas verhes at rare book room studios in brooklyn, ny and features five new tracks from the band. cox professed his love for animal collective and 'rainwater cassette exchange' definitely has a bit of that dubby, underwater lilt perfected by those merriweather guys.

Following a leak that stopped Weird Era... becoming the fan surprise Cox had intended, the ever-whimsical frontman at one point suggested he might scrap it entirely; it’s as well he decided not to, as quite aside from it actually being the better of the twin records, Weird Era... was clearly more emblematic of the direction the band are headed in, if new EP Rainwater Cassette Exchange is owt to go by.»
