Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

The dust has barely settled on this year's festival, but the 2005 line-up for All Tomorrow's Parties is already starting to formulate.

Next year's event, as ever at the Camber Sands holiday park in East Sussex, will be a super avant-garde all-star triple-weekend extravaganza with three different curators - industrial scare pioneers Throbbing Gristle, Warp Records troubadour Vincent Gallo, and rather fantastic experimental/modern art siblings Jake and Dinos Chapman, aka The Chapman Brothers.

Throbbing Gristle's RE-TG weekender next month (May 14th-16th), which was to feature TG's last ever live appearance, has been postponed due to “unexpected cost rises and scheduling complications”, so they will now oversee the first instalment of ATP2005. Rumours of poor ticket sales were scotched by promoters Foundation, however.

The dates in full are:
Weekend one: April 15th-17th - curated by Throbbing Gristle
Weekend two: April 22nd-24th - curated by Jake and Dinos Chapman
Weekend three: April 29th-May 1st - curated by Vincent Gallo

Throbbing Gristle are also compensating fans who bought a ticket for RE-TG with free admission to a special event at a secret London venue on Sunday May 16th, where they’ll be recording their new album live. Additionally, all tickets for RE-TG can be refunded at point of purchase, or transferred to the TG ATP weekend. Full details at the ATP site. Plus, all artists due to play at RE-TG – which included the likes of Coil, Matmos, Merzbow, Black Dice and Russell Haswell – have been invited to play the TG weekend next year. Phew.

Tickets for ATP 2005 go on sale soon, priced at £122.50 per weekend.

Oh for fucks sake! It's going to be absolutely shit. No-one wanted to see Throbbing Gristle's pathetic weekender, and now on-one will want to see them do ATP. What the hell do Jake and Dinos Chapman know about music? It's probably going to be a bunch of trendy Nathan Barley wankers playing bleepy urban soundscapes to projections of their shit art. Twats.

Couldn't they get Death Cab for Cutie to curate it instead? Come back Shellac, all is forgiven. Even the misogyny.

hear hear. i suppose we shall have to wait and see for the line-up, but i'm not that confident...

i'd have liked to have seen someone like graham coxon do it. he's got a pretty diverse (quiet loud, poppy, underground) kinda taste that would really suit ATP.

ho-hum...

Re: Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

sorry for the multiple posts, whenever i tried to post the message, the screen kept coming up with loads or error signs to do with the dis server!!! i haven't busted anything have i???

Re: Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

Yeah maybe...

BUT! Remember Matt Groening's ATP in the states? You could have also accused him of knowing nothing about music (albeit being the creator of something awesome)... but he chose very well...

Sonic Youth, Cat Power, !!!, Deerhoof, Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, the Shins, the Danielson Famile,Jackie-O Motherfucker, Bardo Pond, Carla Bozulich, Terry Rile,Iggy and the Stooges, Mission of Burma, James Chance, the Minutemen, the Magic Band

Let's hope these dudes have good tatse!

In saying that, I fear that TG wil chose a load of what I perceive to be bleeping laptop rubbish (take that as a challenge!) a la the Autechre ATP last year.

...Honestly, I like all kinds of music but I'm sure I saw a guy on stage crushing two walnuts in front of a microphone while his laptop produced a wishy washy background noise - I'm sorry, but that is not only musically poor, but doesn't even qualify as a clever arty idea!

Re: Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

death cab for cutie? jesus, you just completely undermined your whole arguement. 'but why can't we have an entire weekend of anaemic emo/indie pop?'. throbbing gristle are fun. like goat porn and felching.

Hell, it's ATP, can't see it being too bad whoever's pulling it together...

Vincent Gallo has extra-ordinary cheekbones and makes me feel like one of those American indie girls from 'Storytelling' or something who pretend to be moved by deep, arty types as long as they are jolly handsome with it.

Chapman brothers are going to have a rubbish line up aren't they? & Yet it's ATP so there's actually only certain types of bands to choose from anyway...

And Yes, Graham Coxon would be absolutely perfect.

and, and, gosh I'm breathless today aren;t I?

Re: Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

But Matt Groening's music taste is quite well known.. he's had Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth etc on the Simpsons.

I'm a bit worried what the Chapman brothers might do, but apparently they did the stage set for some recent Wire gigs, so it might be ok.

As for Vincent Gallo's weekend, I hope we get more things like Sonic Youth side projects (since he's mates with them), maybe PJ Harvey and less of the RHCP side of his mates.

ATP will be awesome no matter who curates it. Im there already...

Re: Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

"fairly self-absorbed, pretentious and self-indulgent" surely that sums up sonic youth perfectly? Im still scarred from seeing tham as a 15 year old at ATP2000 when they played a noise jam for nearly 2 hours.

VG has amazing music taste and is probably the most important person alive in what i guess is popular entertainment. Pretention is the enemy of mediocrity.

as for graham coxon. hes hardly a huge star is he, and he'd simply invite a bunch of no mark sexless indie bands like Mower which he seems to love.

Re: Throbbing Gristle, Vincent Gallo and The Chapman Brothers curate ATP2005

that SY set in 2000 *was* proper balls though.

Hogan would sooner gouge his own eyes out than have anyone to do with Blur past or present go near ATP let alone curate, so you're all out of luck on that front. Pure personal dislike, that's all that's behind that one. More fool him I'd say, given the 4 of them had the Cardiacs and Wir (not merely Wire, but an artier weirdier Wire side project) as part of their Mile End Stadium all-dayer line-up (at their Britpop peak and all!), so they'd have put together a deadly bill I reckon. but anyhow...

I'm more than happy to wait til some acts' names get announced before I wholly dismiss certain curators' involvement this year though. Even in spite what I may well think of em. Sensible, no? ATP always pulls out surprises, so...
Mind you, can't wait for the Gallo headline set zzzzzzzzzzzzzz...should be emptiest one ever going by the 71 people apparently watching him this year
