Goth-icon H8rz are out in full-force again...

It's a wonderful world that we live in. You speak out. You get blocked out. Marilyn Manson has been BANNED from playing the New York leg of Ozzfest on the 11th August.

Officials at Six Flags in Darien Lakes, New York have used a clause in their contract with the promoter, Clear Channel. They said: "The move was a management decision, and we are within our rights to restrict artists from performing".

In response Manson told reporters: "People do acknowledge and recognise me as truly dangerous... I refuse to say that what I do is show business. Only Marilyn Manson, out of Korn, Disturbed and all these other bands, has been considered inappropriate. That's the inability to reconcile art and entertainment."

Angry little boys moaning about not having the right trainers, alluding to self-mutilation, demonizing women as sex-toys will all obviously still be allowed to play in that great land of the free that is America.

Italy, however, is just as bad. Manson was recently blamed for inciting religious killings at a convent, so wasn't allowed to play over there.

DiScuss: Would the same thing happen if he didn't wear make-up? Is an ever-so-slightly nerdy, ageing guy who once was a rock hack, on stilts, as seen on Jonathon Ross, really THAT dangerous? Is it true that all goths drink blood and inject AIDS into jocks?

David Bowie offended "proper" Britain with his gender-bending antics back in the day, and he's establishment now. It's only a matter of time before MM gets the same treatment - you know, interviews on Parky and the like.

The thing that bums me out about him is that the substance, i.e., the music, is just a whole lot of obvious ideas re-packaged and re-branded (ex-hacks have a tendency to try to 'work' the system), and as such, beneath the surface, he's always been establishment. I've been thinking about Jane's Addiction a lot lately, what with them about to release a new single, and it occurs to me that true artists, who really do stand up for free expression and go against the 'machine', burn much hotter than the rest, but burn out. MM is far too cynical to ever go for glory or bust... he'll probably be a suited media mogul in 10 years.

If he's 'establishment', how come he has so much trouble even getting a gig?

Might I also remind people that Clear Channel are the company that own most of the USA's radio stations, and during the recent war they de-listed artists who spoke out against it (or indeed the Bush administration).

Is it not possible that Bowie has tamed himself down a tad, and that's why he's establishment? Society has become more accepting, and he's become less wild.

Still, this is a complete violation of freedom of speech. As in Canada, Americans are guaranteed freedom of speech. But in Toronto, Eminem was not allowed to perform, and now in New York, MM is denied his rights. This system sucks.

MM is only like a younger Bowie as far as innovation.
Bowie is establishment? Bowie is just getting older & enjoying his money. Wouldn't you? If you had the brains enough to make money, would you give it all to a leftist charity or parley into more money? (You would? -- yeah - right, you lying bastard.) MM is an artist. All the shithead rhetoric naturally comes from pinheads who are simply not able to understand, well, get this!: IF IT MAKES AN IMPRESSION, MAKES YOU REACT, MAKES YOU THINK, IT'S ART!! It's true. Clear Channel drove me from listening to the radio. It's disgusting how America is pumped with lies by the media. Clear Channel just puts bands on the radio for pure profit -- it's irrelevant how much they FUCKING SUCK. But most Americans don't even know it exists, or what they're missing by judging artists like Mr. Manson as the devil with horrible music that is ruining our kids, when really they should be educating their kids. But they dont know any better because they're filthy pigs whose only purpose in life is to expand their bank accounts--not their minds.

PS I liked all his albums because each song has a message and most if not all have good tunes.
