Gervais bags Bowie and Martin... maybe

Ricky Gervais has roped David Bowie and Coldplay's Chris Martin into appearing in his second series of Extras.

Well, we say 'roped': word is that the comedian is in negotiations with the stars. He is friends with Bowie, though, and met Martin at this year's Live 8 bash.

The first series of the show has been nominated for a record five awards at the British Comedy Awards.

Good to

see his comic genius and brilliant writing skills are at the forefront of his new 'vehicle' like the last series rished out on DVD 14 minutes after the last episode was aired.

I love most comedy writers. This man however would only receive the rough end of my tongue if we passed on the street. Put politely I have him down in my books as nothing short of a crass bore.

Bit Harsh

I'll admit, I wasn't taken with either The Office or Extras, it's the kind of humiliation-comedy that's embarrassing just for the sake of it. BUT he was the second best thing on the 11 O'Clock Show (after Iain Lee, of course) and his stand-up is surprisingly funny.

he is

a comedy legend, he's created his own unique type of comedy that has me in pain from laughing, very few comedians create their own original style (i can think of Billy Connolly, eddie Izzard, Ross Noble) i can see why people don't like him (maybe) but they are wrong

i love him to bits but...

... he does have the tendency to go over the same 'topics' again and again - black people, 'disableds' - to the point it's getting a bit worrying.

having said that, 'extras' had its fair share of LOL moments and his hapless scottish sidekick was ace.

As obvious as it is...

The Office is fookin brilliant. Not a big fan of his stand up stuff though

That, Big Train and Family Guy are the best things EVER

People Like Us is good too

i wasn't keen

on his 'politics' show but 'animals' was class.

he is

a funny guy, but his stand up always seems a bit forced, like he doesn't really want to do it, but because he is being paid a shit load of money he will. Still, i loved the end of animals when he calls Ian Hislop a pug faced gnome cunt or something like that.

possibly

the funniest thing he has done is the Xfm radio show with Stephen and Karl, all 3 of them are hilarious

i can see it now

the next show he'll make will be about a suddenly super-successful but socially retarded comedian tactlessly approaching even bigger celebs to appear in his new series. Leaving all about him pondering, as if it was the most profound and original question ever, 'is he really like that, you know in REAL LIFE?'

Chris Martin, though. Uurgh. Watching him in self-parody mode would be horrible.

I love his radio show

It's so funny! Karl Pilkington is just pure comedy gold.
