M83 reacts to Saturdays=Youth being named DiS' album of the year

Today, Drowned in Sound announced our top 50 albums of 2008. DiS caught up with the maker of our album of the year Saturdays=Youth, for a brief chat.

As in previous years, we like to let the winner know before we let the public in on who's won. On hearing he'd topped the list, Anthony Gonzalez, the man behind M83 (currently touring the arena circuit with Kings of Leon) sent us this note:

Deciding to go in a new direction, away from the comfort zone of what's expected is a tricky prospect. The fact that Saturdays=Youth seems to make people's ears happy... what more rewarding feeling for taking a risk?

It's pretty mind-blowing to be acknowledged by the very site I have read for so long. It gives me an incredible confidence to begin the new album. Thank you!

DiS will be running a full length interview with Anthony about the album next week.

Well bugger me.

I'm astonished.

Pleased, extremely pleased, but utterly astonished.

i'm so surprised this was named number 1 but very very happy at that all the same.

i'd fifth those sentiments. Can't bloody wait for tomorrows church gig. I think he's on just after the Leper Benefit Hymn Recital.

if this makes his next album any inches better

than S=Y, I'll die. You've done good, DiS.

SO DIS' BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR GOES TO..

best new order rip-off of the year. bullshit.

I'm amazed

this album is so fucking boring

well

i'm surprised too. Great album, but quite boring.

Smacks of indier than thou???

Thought I'd buy. Good but not great, eh? Some cool tracks but best of year???? Eye of the beholder, of course but....did DiS have to look around this hard to find a 'best' album that was unique to them?
