"If you don't know, honey, why'd you just say so?
Cause I need this now more than I ever did.
If you don't well, honey, then you don't.
So here we are now, a sip of wine a sip of water.
Someday maybe, maybe someday we'll be smarter.
And I'm sorry that I'm such a mess, I drank all my money could get and, took everything you let me have and then I never loved you back.
If you don't don't know, why would you say so?"- Jimmy Eat World, "If You Don't, Don't"
When caffeine doesn't work we crank out our favourite power-emo-ballads here in the DiS office, and today the sentiment of the song seems quite apt. Something had to give, and after two years of the previous site being 'semi-finished', we decided to gut everything behind the scenes and rebuild our baby from scratch. The trouble is, some of the bigger changes can't be done until this site is live. This also means we can drip feed new features, rather than overwhelming you with billions all at once.
We hope you like what we've done with the place. This really is only the beginning of a whole heap of changes but let me run you through it as it's far more than an aesthetic shift. We don't expect this site to be perfect but have a rummage around and post a comment below with any bugs you've found. If the problem is visual (boxes hanging over the top of each other and nasty stuff like that) then could you let us know whether you're on mac/windows/linux and which browser and version of the browser you're using and maybe do us a screen grab too? The site should be perfect for Firefox, Safari and IE7 but let us know.
The page names have changed so if you have any pages bookmarked you may need to update these but they should forward you to the right place.
So here we are then, it's been a lot of work to get us here so please be gentle with her and give us a week or so to finish things off...
Cheers,
Sean

P.S. If you really don't like it, tough - you'll get used to it just like the previous versions ; )

like i said...
...it looks very nice round here. like going from a 90s town house to a pad of steel and glass, smegg fridges and armitage shanks bogs.
beautiful!
the jimmy eat world lyrics nearly brought a tear to my eye. are their words really that bad? eck!
a small part of me
has died
It's very white
a little more colour wouldn't go a miss. The pictures don't load for me, I'm using windows IE the newest one whatever that is...
Apart from that I think it's alright and I will get use to it.
Pictures
None ot the pictures are loading.
I think the layout it ok
a good start but get some colour in here fast!
Oh and the spell check just told me colour is spelt without a u.
WRONG!
it is a bit white
really white. but i've had a poke around and layout/organisation-wise i prefer it to the old one quite a bit. so, yay, i think. (still too white though)
and the pictures don't work but i suspect that's happening to everyone at the moment

Oooooh
I like how the comment box emerged.
However, you seem to have followed Facebook 2.0's lead. It's a tad confusing.
Also, yes, photos aren't working.
and erm
when i posted that last one i was told i need to be staff to post here, even though it had gone through already. hence me posting it twice
users online :0
The horror! The horror! Let's see if I can post this only once
I think the listings are a little messed up
Either that or Exeter University is a really popular place...
Oh, and I'm liking the whiteness of it all, looks very nice.
I've got thru the pain barrier now
either part of my eyes have been burnt away or I'm use to it.
good call on the gigs section
v good call
oh man sorry about that
before it kept saying 'you must be staff to post here' or something. whoops!
THE WHITE
IT BURNS
way too much white and what happened to the pictures??
give us back our old site please.
PLEASE list more than 5 threads in the Community section
on the right hand side. I need ten to whet my whistle. At least.

This multipost was the result of something about "staff".
That should maybe be looked at too.
couple small things
1. no Dis strapline at the top of the page
2. no pictures
3. when writing is just in the title of a reply, the name of the poster and a reply box dissapear
i'm using ie6 so thats probably why.
yeah
tis fixed. tom set the site live but i hadn't set the introduction to the new site live before i'd left for our party. fixed now. lots more to fix but we're getting there.
oh one other thing
links in article text look exactly the same as the text, that could probably do with being changed
it looks
really nice now the pictures show up. much better than the last one.
i like it
i like space. i like clean.
though, i second gunslinger's request for more community listings down the side.
Seriously good luck with this site Sean
It has given many people such inspiration and good memories, that despite some of the shit that must have gone behind the scenes, Drowned In Sound's continued existence is for the good of the world and forever may it go on...
"community" link from user profile page
is dud. goes to "/section/community" instead of to "/community"
I like it.
"50, 000 people against the new DiS!"
But yeah, bit of colour here and there would be good, all the white hurts my eyes.
I love what you've done with the place.
You guys didn't fuck it up like they did down the hall at Facebook.
I love it Sean
Very the best and most easy to to tour and jump around.
Fine work!
xx
me likey
this might even better than dis v2...
Popup adverts! *fume*
What's with all the popup adverts in the forums?
I like it
It's like Christmas. Every day.
ps
some of the pics are still not working and the 'Out soon' links:
http://drownedinsound.com/releases
result in 'not found' pages...
i second that^^
but the rest is good thus far
if you lack content
make everything bigger. Designer 101.
problem is, it now looks ugly nothing is tidy. oh dear the 2 changes ago worked better than this.
You're always gonna get haters
Colour.
As said by many, but a splash here and there would go down a treat. Other than that, I think it looks great.
I do like the new site and I love DiS
but just so there's a log of the issues:

Oh yeah.
don't worry
that whole right hand column is still a work in progress. it's gonna get very clever over there.
what pop ups?
there shouldn't be any!
The site has become like the anti-Maddox
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=faq
"This site (www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net), as shitty as it looks, gets over 1 million visits per month. I use large fonts also as a protest against all the stylish garbage you see out there. When I go to a web site, I WANT TO READ THE CONTENT. Trust me, that micro-font everyone uses isn't nearly as original as they think. I've chosen a black background for most of my text because it's easier on the eyes than staring at a white screen. Think about it: your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one. Staring at a white background while you read is like staring at a light bulb (don't believe me? Try turning off the lights next time you use a word processor). Would you stare at a light bulb for hours at a time? Not if you want to keep your vision."
yep, the thing where the name of the poster disappears
for subject only posts is really infuriating. I now can't follow threads and I'm not going to be on the site nearly as much, which makes me sad.
I'm using IE6, so that is probably why, but as I'm at work (where I do almost all my DiS activity) I'm not able to change that. Everything else is fine, but this makes it unusable.
If you fix that, I'll love you forever :)
.
lots of Bacardi popups..
..
which don't appear to be occuring anymore... *un-fume*
It looks quite nice
if a bit white n bright. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Stuff like the gigs section on the front page that tells you what is going on where is good. Could that not be made customisable for each user though? I mean, could it not be based around location. I live in Oxford so a list of gigs in Oxford first would be good. Then London and other such places within a reasonable distance. Gigs in Leeds today isn't much help to me. If not, I'll live! Just an idea.
yeah it will be like that
like i say ^^ still lots to be done.
Owning an album
I get a fancy-looking 404 when I try to add my name to the list of people who own an album:
i love you sean
for quoting Jimmy Eat World lyrics alone. :D
I vote for
a return to the blue site
