Kaiser Chiefs reveal return, label indie scene "boring"
And your brain had only just stopped leaking after this announcement.
Kaiser Chiefs have revealed details regarding their return, with Off With Their Heads released on October 13. This will be preceded by comeback single ‘Never Miss a Beat’, out October 6.
Co-produced by Mark Ronson and Elliot James, their follow-up to Yours Truly, Angry Mob (review) features contributions from Lily Allen, New Young Pony Club and Sway.
Discussing Ronson’s contribution to MTV News (in tongues it seems), Nick Hodgson stated:
“We had some songs but there were only about three and Mark Ronson wanted to work with us.
“We met up with him, he sounds, he was a funny guy and he got he had the same sort of sense of humour and we thought lets go in the studio with him and record… and the recording sounded fantastic.”
Talking themselves up, it also turns out that Ricky Wilson has labelled ‘the indie scene’ as “very boring”.
Speaking to the BBC, he said how his outfit had produced a “weird and fresh and radical” response to this.
“Indie bands are big, so a lot of record companies are pushing indie bands and going ‘we’ve got one and they dress in vests’,” started up Wilson. “That indie by numbers is boring.”
Nick Hodgson adding: “It's very, very boring.”
“We're not going to point fingers or name names, but we've noticed that [other bands] didn't seem to be enjoying themselves on their new records, they seemed to be going through the motions.”

I agree with him......music in general is incredibly boring at the moment I reckon....I haven't heard a band in a good while that blown me away.

To be fair, you're probably not listening to enough music then.
I think the references made the by the Kaiser's is being directed toward the likes of other Tesco Rock and Topman Indie types - their kindred spirits if you like. Which, in all fairness, is (with a few exceptions) bands that are boring and crap. But you'd rarely see a truly exciting band capable of blowing you away selling next to these types on the shelves of Tesco, because it's a completely different market. Sorry, I just think that to agree with his statement is to overlook a hell of a lot of exciting and, well, not boring bands / music out there right now. In fact, I think music is more exciting that ever right now. Ok, this boils down to personal taste, but I really think you're overlooking a lot of great new music, a lot of it from this year.

The first one was amusing at the time, but why is it that all those acts who 'exploded' onto the scene in 2005 have ended up as utter tripe merchants?

You have only enough energy to hate something passionately for a finite time before the walls ome tumbling down and you start thinking 'actually the end of The Angry Mob isn't terrible, and Ricky Wilson is quite funny in a silly litle scamp kind of way' in a similar way that I did to Razorlight. Oh Johnny, you're encouragable.

You need to get out more !!
Tons of great music out there at the moment eg recent lp releases by Cage the elephant ,infadels ,wave picture white denim, midnight juggernauts all in the last few months !! If you watched glasto and t in the park like me however you'd be bored shitless watching tedious topman rock and bands who are half good but massively overexposed now such as the feeling,scouting for girls,kooks !!!Kaiser Chiefs fall into this category !!If they have made an original lp like zooropa or kid a i'll take their hats off but i very much doubt it !! If they had released an lp called Britain is now a shithole and written tracks called Don't speak to the press,Shoot the Politicans ,If you don't like it here fuck off etc etc id have loads of time for them !! All mainstream bands are not interesting anymore becuause they are not usually radical enough in either musical ideas lyrics or attitude to encourage free thinking !! U need to listen to the punk scene which still keeps music and ideas fresh and the bands refuse to sell out or compromise just to get radio play !! Yesterday i listened on myspace to the german punk bands the Bovver Boys and the Ruckers and they blew me away yet no-one in the pathetic uk media will touch them !!!

I think they probably don't get any exposure to some of the better quality "indie" stuff that is out there - their world probably revolves around major label signings which won't be as interesting, by definition, as some of the non-major stuff. They could do with thinking about stuff before they open their mouths unless its all just to get in the papers cos they have a new record coming out - which is probably what it is all about, which is sad.
I feel sorry for them.
