Ash's Tim Wheeler has told the BBC's Newsbeat show that his band's new material features some “diabolical inventions”.
The frontman revealed that the first of the band's new singles - they won't release any more studio albums - will be released in early 2009.
He said:
"It's been very freeing being away from the album format and not thinking, 'Oh, this track has to fit with that track'. We're just trying all sorts of crazy stuff.
"We've got one album worth so far but we want to get a double album worth of stuff."
But not a double studio album, obvs.

WIN! Lots of beer. Seriously, LOTS of beer...
i am a massive fan
But i did not like the new song they played yesterday for Ben and Jerrys.
I was about to post the very same!
Great that they encored with Jack Names the Planets though.
really nice guys
glad to see they aren't fading into obscurity.
Aren't they?
I kind of wish they'd have stopped after Free All Angles...
This actually sounds quite refreshing!
Makes me feel 15 all over again...
A whole album's worth?
That they could, like, put on an album?
I don't care if it's not a "cohesive" collection. Let me have one CD rather than lots. I will happily pay the full album price.
Bah. I am old.
..
me too. I like albums. Can't we have all the singles on one disc? We promise not to call it an 'album'......
Isn't every Ash LP...
a diabolical invention :p
sorry, too easy!
Oh sory,
their too cool to do LPs these days.
I think it's obvious...
...that they haven't produced a truly great album, well, ever. I guess they don't plan on starting now.
Generally, once I start buying albums from a band I struggle to stop, even if I'm not convinced by the quality. Ash however, have not had any of my money for a while. And I certainly won't be buying their singles, either.
Personally, I can't wait
They might never be fashionable, but, regardless of what format they release it in, I'm sure the new stuff will wipe the floor with anything else out there. Love this band.
