Secret Machines - lose a member, new album still on the way...

Secret Machines' Brandon Curtis has announced via the band's own online message board at www.secretmachines.com that his brother and co-founder of the band Ben is no longer in the group.

His post reads:

"I am writing to make a couple of announcements. First of all I want to let everybody know that Secret Machines have begun work on our third album. We expect to begin recording sometime in the beginning of May. Unfortunately, I also must share that after 7 and 1/2 years of playing music together, Benjamin has decided to no longer be a part of the band. It is a sad day but also an exciting one as he prepares to focus full time on his new creative venture, School of Seven Bells. He has told me that he expects to be finished with a new record very soon as well as there being plans in the works to play some shows here in New York debuting the band. Of course Josh (Garza) and I wish him all the best."

Ben's new project, School Of Seven Bells, also featuring Alley Deheza (formerly of fellow New Yorkers On! Air! Library!) will be releasing their debut single 'My Cabal' via the excellent Sonic Cathedral label on 16th April.

good luck to him

It's a shame though as I like his guitar work with Secret Machines.

Good news about the new album though.

Does anyone know if Brandon or Josh will be playing guitar or if they are considering a replacement?

sorry DiS

I do like you, but you seem to have just copy and pasted a paragraph from their website there. pitchfork have a nice informative news article up, whereas nme report the 'drummer' has left. at least you did better than them.

School of Seven Bells

Like what I've heard from them so far. Hopefully, it'll not affect Secret Machines too much and we'll have 2 ace bands.

That's not a member quitting a band

That's a half assed boardroom memo.
They may as well have signed it Warners.

Tsssk.

Oh Well....

I saw them support interpol about 2 years back and it was pretty poor to be honest.

Bit gutted about this

How could one brother ditch his own for another band?! When I saw the 'lose a member' headline I automatically assumed it was Garza that left. Very strange, and a shame. But at least they're starting work on the third album, looking forward to that.

wow

I just realised it's been over a year since Ten Silver Drops. Can't wait till their next one.

actually not even a year!

Can't fault their workrate. I sound like a Premiership manager.

their last album wasn't much cop

maybe this'll shake things up a bit. They're unutterably fantastic live.

Bad News

Ten Silver Drops was great, and I was really looking forward to what weird and wonderful direction the band seemed poised to take. The bottom line is that what made Secret Machines special and a force to be reckoned with was the musical connection between Brandon and Ben Curtis. If the remaining members think there is a "Secret Machines" without Ben Curtis, they are sorely mistaken. They need to put this band to bed before the inevitable steep decline towards mediocrity a la Trail of Dead.
