Goldie Lookin Chain un-banned by Tesco

No, you didn't read the headline wrongly - Tesco have un-banned Goldie Lookin Chain's new album, 'Greatest Hits', which is out today (Monday, September 13).
When GLC discovered Tesco had plans not to stock the album, with an abundance of swearing and such tactful titles as 'Your Mother's Got A Penis' presumably the motivation, the Newport crew decided to take action.
But when Tesco got wind of GLC's scheme to picket the Harlech Retail Park branch of their hometown, the supermarket giant did a 360 degree about turn and conceded defeat - apparently, you now will be able to pick up 'Greatest Hits' with your bananas, bread and copy of The Sun.
GLC are also bringing the rap to Cardiff this afternoon with a signing session and live PA in the city's Virgin Megastore.

Although nobody should buy CDs from supermarkets anyway, if they care about the support of new music.

One of the biggest mistakes the music industry ever made was allowing Supermarkets to sell CD'S.
ANYWAY - those guys watch WAAAAAY to much television.
"Don't diss my nan,
Don't call her a slag,
'Cos she gives me change out her fuckin' handbag"

Call me ignorant (because in this case I am) but what's wrong with supermarkets selling CD's?

Over a period of time, if a band is lucky it comes to the attention of a lot of people. Hopefully that's down to gigging and radio play... but also down to you being able to buy the CDs. So record shops stock them. But unless it's a big band, you won't see it in the supermarkets - try finding, say, the new Fiery Furnaces album in there. Then, presto!... every now and then a band becomes famous. And once it is, the supermarkets sell it for little or no profit, denying revenue to the shops that helped support the band in the first place. The record shops do all the work, then the big supermarkets use their purchasing power to make money. They don't do anything for new music and breaking new bands - and if you buy CDs from them, you risk helping other record shops to close. And you may not even hear, say, the next Franz Ferdinand (again, that's an example and it doesn't matter whether you like them or not). Because there will be no shops to 'break' them for you one day...

I like franz
Thanks for explaining that to me though I'm not convinced it's all that bad. Yes supermarkets only stock already big bands rather than supporting new music but surely that means that the new music is left to the independant shops, they've got their business there. Few smaller record shops stock all that much of the chart stuff anyway. The main people supermarkets take business from would be hmv and virgin and they take business from the nice independant shops anyway so I don't mind them suffering.
That's the way it seems to be anyway, though naturally I may be very wrong

Has Tesco also decided to stop selling mem's magazines and 18 rated videos full of guns n' violence? I love cheap moralism.
