This chart was compiled from the votes of our staff, who chose their top 20 albums of the year, with number 1 scoring 20 points and number 20 scoring 1 point. There was a two vote minimum to get into the chart. Radiohead scored nearly 200 points.

Some of these records are missing reviews. Reviews will appear on the site in the coming weeks.

DiScuss:** What were your albums of the year? Who was robbed? Anything here surprise you? Do you think this chart represents what DiS is all about and what has gone on in 2003?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Er. What no Alabama 3: Last Train to Nashville???

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Actually, has to be said, pretty damn good list. I will back off from laying into The Darkness as I'm feeling quite bright and sparky this morning. But Zwan so high? Seriously?? Which suggests some kind of consensus that it's a good worthy effort? Dear God.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Maximilian Hecker?
Not very *exciting* I grant you, but a wonderful album nonetheless!!

mew, stellastarr* and PGMG should be higher too!

in my humble..

sp

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

But the Radiohead album is average at best!

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

first I saw...

8. Zwan Mary Star of the Sea?

and I though "hmmmm". then I saw...

47. Metallica St. Anger

and I said "I quit"
bunch of wrong 'uns

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I take it that there will be slating of the imminent NME Album Poll then. After all, how can you slate anybody else's poll for being 'old' when you put a 1970's rock covers band at Number 2?

I hear Mike Oldfield's still recording...

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

The Faint? The Sleepy Jackson?

were they this year?

sp

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Actually ignore the above. I realise it makes no sense. I blame the fact that it's 6am and I'm trying to get through a section of calculus whilst writing. What I meant to say was:

" take it that there will be slating of the imminent NME Album Poll then. After all, how can you slate anybody else's poll for being 'old' when you put a 1970's rock covers band at Number 2?

I hear Mike Oldfield's still recording..."

I apologise for any bullshit contained within.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

No Cat on Form? No Q and not U? Both awesome albums!

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

No Ten Grand either, my album of 2003 by a mile.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I must say that after reading through this list, the shocking predictability, even from DiS writers, is saddening. DiS is a site championing new music, and great music, and yet there's Hell is for Heroes at number, erm, 10? They're like a carbon copy of equally average acts that were knocking about three or four years ago. And then there's Zwan and a whole host of other albums that really aren't worthy of such high acclaim. I can understand that a few people might place them highly, but with so many people voting (I presume; if all the writers under contacts voted) I expected a more balanced and less high-profile chart. Still, nice to see Cat Power so high.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Where's The Coral?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

it's okay... I think snow patrol and jetplane landing should have been higher up..but never mind.

why don't you people at DiS have a user top 75 albums?
that would be good

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

If we can work out how to code it (or i can talk matt or natts into coding it) we'll put something up...

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

whoop
it would be interesting

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

This is true, as a site we do promote new bands an music but each article is written by an inidividual. It is the same as being with your mates and one says 'I have heard the best album EVER!'... not all of you guy and buy as it may not be to your taste or you just can't afford it. An example in caser is that my album of the year didn't even get into the top 75! Remember, this is based on a general overview, not the definitive opinion of the whole site i.e. the number one album is not everyones favourite...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

My top record didn't make it either.
Maybe we should have a 'close but no cigar' section?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

It's weird, I only voted for about 2 of the top 20 records and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of other people who regularly contribute to the site who had about the same amount of their records of the year near the top.

I did look confusedly at Zwan and Hell is For Heroes and Elbow too for that matter, getting quite so high. Then again, Distillers, Strokes and White Stripes all did oddly well...

We're going to be doing a few other runs downs of the year which should go someway to giving a personal and collective view of the year.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Even tho Cat on Form are great live, the albums really not impressed me. Have played it quite a bit and it just doesn't feel like the same band.

Did Q and not U have an album out this year?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Q and not U have not released an album this year. An EP yes, but no album.

Cat on Form are awful.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

im surprised you didnt knock off a quick koreans album before the new year so you could bum the arse off it. there's always next year.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

this list saddens me a little
maybe the mechanics weren'y entirely appropriate, seeings as it seems to reward the albums that have been most heard, as opposed to most loved
maybe cutting down the number of votes per person would make it more representative?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

in what way does elbow being up so high confuse you? whatever your position on them as a band the album remains a beautifully crafted, confident and ambitous work. and it is probably my number 1 album of the year without a doubt. which is obviously why i'm kicking up a fuss. but seriously, it's gorgeous. really gorgeous.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

no kinesis?
I suppose you lot dont like them anymore? As you didnt review the album or their last single either.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Anyway I voted for Last Train to Mashville as my number 1 so there. Some other ones that never made it in cos it's a consensus poll innit:
The Zephyrs - A Year To The Day (Setanta)
Quante Jubila – Quante Musica (Play)
William E Whitmore – Hymns For The Hopeless (Southern)
Saian Super Crew – X Raisons (Source)
Bitmap – Alpha Beta Gamma (General Electric)
but ain't that what makes music so ace? There's so much out there. If you read this site, and other media, then hopefully you're interested in finding new music that's out there waiting to snog you mercilessly. The DiS chart is only a snapshot of some of those artists and you gotta remember there's around 160 records released every week in the UK. Multiply that by 52, and also take into account all the DIY and Import releases - that's a lot of class out there. The great thing about this sorta stuff is that any chart like this is only a starting point to being led in the direction of stuff personally I didn't know about before innit so I'm up for being enlightened, ain't that what makes anyone get outa bed in the morning (and back into bed at night for more filthy fun)

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

it's only cos I wasn't in charge this year.
nobody complained last year.
nobody that wasn't a fucking dick anyway.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

A good list, I think. Bearing in mind it has to please everyone and not just you, yes YOU, reading this...

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

What about Tom McRae - Just Like Blood?

One of my top albums of the year. I guess if you didn't review it, you can't put it in?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

kudos for having zwan so high- everyone seemed to ignore them after 'honestly' came out, but they were a great, if a little short-lived band. Also, i must agree, where on god's green earth were Kinesis?! and while i'm on the subjuct of noteable ommissions, AFI anyone? Rancid? Evanesc... i'll stop there, i've started too many fights already...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I have to agree the Darkness may be the most fun album in the list, but there are quiet a lot more musically...intricate albums around, some that didn't even make the list (Tom McRae my personal favourite ain't there), so I can see why Darkness came high...but....well I don't agree. Different strokes for different folks an' all that.

Incidentally, check out www.metacritic and their section on music, and you can find out what the average of all reviews for a fair few albums (reviews from UK and US iirc) and find the top lot an' all that. Led Zeppelin top? Well well well...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I really like the record too (was at the bottom end of my top 20). Am just confused, if you look at the kinda things that get written about on DiS day in day out that the kinda people who voted for elbow don't take part in dis on a day to day basis and the album hasn't even been reviewed on the site...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

We didn't review the Kinesis album as we only got a copy of it the day it came out and didn't get chance to listen to it enough before the review woulda been outta date. Admittedly, any number of contributors coulda picked it up in the shops and written about it, but they didn't and that's nobodies fault.
Don't think the pr people even sent us the last single - tho i might be wrong.
The album isn't as good as the first record they did themselves (with most of the same songs on)

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

There was no point submitting my list as none of my choices have made it to the list in previous years and this year would've been no different. Ho hum.

Jude The Obscure - The Coldest Winter
Since By Man - We Sing The Body Electric

CLASSIC albums.

Oh yeah, and Cat Power, but I only heard that in the bar on a mate's headphones.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

You should have - I voted Since By Man inside the top ten, so if it was high on your chart it probably would've made it.

D'oh.

My top album, Ten Grand, and second choice, Bear Vs Shark, didn't make it.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Then hurry one of your leetle minions up, Sean! :P

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Bah! No Tomohawk? Ah well, how about a '10 Worst Albums of 2003' list. I nominate the bloody awful Superjoint Ritual album.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

aye, Tomahawk should have made it.

Superjoint Ritual was okay... ish.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I think it would be more interesting to see each individual writers top 10 or something then we could see how diverse the staff are. This kind of vote doesn't seem to give a clear picture of anything other than maybe most people quite liked ..... get my drift?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Mike D's top twenty... rip it up y'all.

1: Ten Grand, ‘This Is The Way To Rule’, Southern

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Tomahawk. Bugger.

Also, I know it's not really DiS but I'd have stuck the Mastodon album somewhere near the top. I know it was released last year but it was re-released about a month ago with the obligatory bonus track and a rather excellent live DVD which pisses all over Linkin Park.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

1. Pretty Girls Make Graves - New Romance
2. Cat Power - You Are Free
3. Dandy Warhols - Welcome to the Monkeyhouse
4. Rilo Kiley - The Execution of All Things

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

no ted leo or wrens? what about jameson?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

God Cat Power #3? I love Cat Power but Chan Marshall alongside The Darkness and Muse? There is an improvement in the world........

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I take it Aconite is more of a lounge-core man rather than sludge-core - i didn't mind it. Sure, i wouldn't want to argue the toss with Phil Anselmo, but that's neither here nor there...

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Room for girls aloud but none for nick cave?

what the fuck is wrong with you?

this is all horribly predictable.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Radiohead? Number One? I don't fucking think so. The Darkness are Britain's number one band. FACT!
As for the rest I think it's great Hell Is For Heroes & Elbow can nestle in the Top 10 alongside Cat Power & Blood Brothers (neither of whom I've heard of).
As for all you indie saddo purists who think DiS has to be some duffel coated vessel championing a bunch of shoegazing losers do me a favour FUCK OFF!
There is more in this life than Jetplane Landing. I want ambition, excess, success, ego, attitude, sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll. THAT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT MORONS!
All you 'haters' go have a wank over yer Belle And Sebastian albums in a chalet at All Tomorrows Parties.
Fer fecks sake!

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

for heavens sake.. even drowned in sound is full of tasteless twats nowadays.. the darkness are shite!! get it?? not even you lot can ignore the hype.. someone's been brainwashed.. definately some crap there! metallica? The strokes???! alkaline trio??!?!

there are a few good choices though.. mew, british sea power and biffy clyro! :D oh and belle and sebastian and radiohead are good.. although radiohead shouldn't be number one.. hmm..

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I don't think the elbow album should be SO high... it's nowhere near as good as any of their older stuff.. just too claustrophobic for me, but each to their own.

I don't agree with most of that list BUT, i'm glad to see overall that you've 'plugged' plenty of very worthy artists.

But.. um.. Girls Aloud? Yeah, right.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

no AFI??

nice one with the Blood Brothers though. :)

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

No Broadcast among Top 75 ??????? hahahahahaha....

Gimme a break......

20 Gossip – ‘Movement’

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Didn't even know Cat on Form had an album...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I'm listening to it at the moment and it's not the music that bothers me, although that's nothing special, it's Mr Anselmo's voice and arrogance that get me.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

80s Covers band. Queen/Queensryche

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Bloody hell RADIOHEAD and THE DARKNESS...DiS is the new Q...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Small Brown Bike and TAV
yesssssss.....

can't believe the Black Lung Captain didn't make the DIS list proper. Surely one of the best records by a homegrown act this year???

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

It certainly is... This Ain't Vegas and The Murder Of... are blinding albums. Murder Of missed out coz I got it after compiling my list.

Seriously though, the Ten Grand and Bear Vs Shark records are immense.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

aye, Structure and Fear.
It's not awful, to be fair, just overly generic.
I think anyways.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Good list but... Metallica??? Girls Aloud??? Marilyn Manson?? I listen this 3 records and I hate them. And "Hail to thief" on nr.1!? :(

Otherwise where is Massive Attack?? ... and anyone listen: God is an Astronaut "The end of the beginning"???
My 5+:
The White Stripes "Elephant"
Blur "Think Tank"
Massive Attack "100th Window"
God is an Astronaut "The end of the beginning"
M83 - "Dead cities, red seas & lost ghosts"

Rgds

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

i'll check 'em out when I get some chrimbo funds....
I didn't enjoy that SBB album nearly as much as Dead Reckoning tho.
Plus i'll never get to see them live now....

fucking sucks

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

The River Bed isn't a patch on Dead Reckoning, that's true, but it's SBB innit? They HAD to be in there somewhere.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

too true, my friend!
I have to ask, tho, what's yer problem with Cat on Form?
I thought structure and fear was very good indeed, a fine follow up to their first ep. And live, they really do the fucking business....

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Cat On Form never really clicked with me. I'm often a little too hasrh about them, but I just don't like 'em. Something annoys me that I can't quite put my finger on, plus I find them remarkably generic. BUT, the first time I ever saw 'em they were good, just haven't impressed the three or four times since.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Some of my fave albums of the year that did make it...

AEREOGRAMME sleep and release
BRAND NEW deja entendu
EVAN DANDO baby i'm bored
DISTILLERS coral fang
MEW frengers

The one's that didn't make it...

CANYON empty rooms
LIMBECK hi, everything's great
MILLION DEAD a song to ruin
MULL HISTORICAL SOCIETY us
PERNICE BROS yours mine and ours
SIMPLE KID #1
SLEEPY JACKSON lovers
SPITALFIELD remember right now

and I compiled the list

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Elbow's newer stuff's just developed from their own, in a good way. But even if it was mostly a retread of AITB, it would've still deserved top ten.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Actually, Sleepy Jackson is an odd ommission. I missed it off, but it's dead good.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Because you care deep down. Yes, you do.

1. Why? - Oaklandazulasylum
2. King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader
3. The Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island, Burn
4. Sixtoo - Antagonist Survival Kit
5. Mogwai - Happy Songs for Happy People
6. Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People
7. Cat Power - You are Free
8. A Silver Mt. Zion - The Rusted Satallites Gather and Sing - This
is our Punk Rock
9. Brother Ali - Shadows On the Sun
10. Dizzee Rascal - Boy in Da Corner
11. Aerogramme - Sleep and Release
12. Sole - Selling Live Water
13. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
14. The Locust - Plague Soundscapes
15. Non-Prophets - Hope
16. Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher

18. Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain
19. Girls Aloud - Sound of the Underground
20. Buck 65 - Talkin' Honky Blues

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

hmm this list has got some albums that i truly hate and some albums i do love. but its missing most on my list though. but okay the list is fair enough.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

What a load of predictable bollocks.

Over half the records in that list have been sold in shops - what the hell's wrong with you? How dare you praise records that have been played on the radio or written about in proper magazines.

NAd why the fuck isn't Radiohead in the chart?

Oh yeah, it is, silly me.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

WHERE THE HELL IS MILLION DEAD??? Blatantly best album of the year. And........SIKTH!!! Where is Sikth?? If you've ever heard that album, you'll know it's a fookin masterpiece!! And Gob!! And Bear vs. Shark!! Radiohead are great, but not the best...Darkness and Funeral For A Friend are good not great..Zwan are painfully average...Thursday, Biffy Clyro, Billy Talent and Jetplane Landing are too low IMHO..and there are great albums that you've probably never heard of such as Sam Roberts - "We Were Born In A Flame" and The Dears - "Lost Cities". Other than that, the list is good but don't agree with the order much. Aereogramme is HORRIBLE. As is Marilyn Manson. As is Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I dislike Elbow and Mogwai, but that's just me. My list to follow shortly........

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Have to say I agree with the Zwan comment. I have no idea why so many people voted for that. It was shit. I'm no fan of the Radiohead record either.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

HELLO?????????

have you not heard of the greatness that is http://www.menomena.com ??

Also - The Bronx should have been included

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I still don't understand why Million Dead changed their name from Hundred Reasons. Their last album, "Ideas Before Our Station" was much better as well. They've gone downhill I fink.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I just laughed out loud at this.
Thanks.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

haven't you got a phil collins 3 gig to go to Chris? :)

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

You're a pretty obnoxious little shit really, aren't you?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Kettles and pots...

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Good god I think we've found the one place in the world where people actually take Muse seriously.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

M83....that album should be in the top 10.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Copperpot Journals - Pilots
Thursday - War All The Time
Blood Brothers - Burn Piano Island Burn
Lowgold - Welcome To Winners
Biffy Clyro - Vertigo Of Bliss
Funeral For A Friend - Casually Dressed....
Brand New - Deja Entendu
Thrice - The Artist In The Ambulance
Beecher - Breaking The Fourth Wall
The Darkness - Permission To Land
Hell Is For Heroes - The Neon Handshake
Jetplane Landing - Once Like A Spark

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

who? me? awww shucks! you're too kind. Actually, I've just read your user profile - Turin Brakes, Radiohead, "I like indie music me" you're a bit of a cunt really ain't ya? Listen mate don't pick on us music hacks - we can keep this shit up all day. Back to mummy with you, go on.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Blair, you're almost as clueless as that cheshire cat in Downing Street! Sikth were appalling when i saw them supporting Machine Head in Portsmouth! All too much, too fast, altho it is nice how they let the caveman shout a few tracks. Utter man juice!!! (Mind u, machine Head did sound like an A-bomb repeatedly exploding in ur face- that'll teach me to stand by the bass amp!)

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

So it wasn't just me who thought that King Geedorah LP rocked then. I can't find my buggering copy of the thing at the moment tho.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Thats better - Now we can see where some off you DIS writers are coming from

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Where are Ooberman?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Hang on, hang on - calm down, calm down. Remember these are opinions!!

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Oh, I see. Because I list that I like Turin Brakes and Radiohead, I'm a lesser human being.

The main problem I have with 'hacks' like you is you just lambast other people without provocation and then act in this holier-than-thou sense that, because you work 'within in industry' or whatever you like to call it, your opinions are somehow more valid. They're as valid as everyone else's - music is all about taste, and you can only say what you like. You can't say there's a 'fact' that any album is good or bad, even if it's agreed by popular concensus. Just remember it's all about opinions, friend. Now if you're analysing the music in terms of technicality and skill and actual innovation in music - you're talking about something away from the simple in terms of rhythm, tone, harmony, all that shit. If you've got, say, a music degree, I'll sit back and take all the crap you want to throw at me for not being indier-than-thou. Just because you've seen a lot of gigs and listened to a lot of albums does not make your opinion more valid than practically anyone. It only makes your taste more definite, you know what you like. That's fair enough, but it still doesn't really give you the right to lay into other people that bad and talk about 'facts', especially when it's saying one band are better. The Darkness - fair enough if you like them, but there are no facts that they are better or worse than Radiohead. You like something rocky? Fine, but it doesn't give you any right to say it's better than any other style of music.

You've dug yourself a nice little hole there. Now sit down in it while we fill it in, please.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

14) Kitshickers - Armee De L'air (From The Known To The Unknown)
15) The White Stripes - Elephant

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

it still doesn't give you the right to call me a "obnoxious little shit" though does it when you don't know who I am? That's a bit like me slagging off a band I've never heard, seen or met. I don't give a shit anyway - I'm off to the Caribbean for two weeks come Monday so fuck you.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

awww come on Chris I'm a pussy cat really!

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

christ on a bike!!! I wish you people would just get over these things. This is a list of albums compiled by people who write for this particular website, nothing more. If you look closely you'll see that there are similarities between this list and those of other websites and publications. These lists tend to be for the masses by the (slightly smaller representation of the) masses. People will always disagree, that's what people do. You'll always bet the people who like muse, elbow and turin brakes being slagged off for being uneducated NME types. But you'll also get the indier-than-thou, Careless Talk loving weirdos (ME) who take their fair share of stick too.

PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT. If this website covered things like timberlake and westlife there'd be writers suggesting their albums are the best of the year and then you'd have to spend some more time slagging them off.

Let it go. Go off and listen to your favorite records and forget what everybody else has said. Does it really matter anyway?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

scrabbling around on the verge yet another comeback I imagine

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Could everyone whose favourite band didn't make it into this list (because, like, duh, YOU didn't help to compile it) stop crying into your milkshakes and get over it? Who cares? It's a list! It's got some albums on there I like, some I dislike, some I've never heard (I suspect most of us can't afford hundreds of albums a year), and yes... it misses off some I'd like to see on there. SO RUDDY WHAT? Go to a news website, see what's going on in the world, find something that it IS justifiable to get genuinely annoyed about. People getting so bothered about a list (yes, a LIST) clearly need to get out more, and by that I don't mean the Rudgleigh Dog & Turnip for local indie night on Fridays...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

its true. i disagree with a fair proportion of albums on that list and i voted in the thing. Radiohead getting number 1 doesn't mean we all worship them, it simply means that they were mentioned on more/higher up on peoples lists.

i dont know how you people find the time to chase your own tails with arguements that can clearly never be resolved because it all comes down to your own opinions and tastes. You're never going to agree so... like.. getoverit.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

This is gettin' too intellectual! Can't we just insult Brusma? I mean come on, Aqualung, Alfie, Turin Brakes?

Do your ears explode when something is a bit too loud?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

where's Serafin??

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

No, Mooseman, no - take a listen to the Sikth album, it's v.v.v.v good (although I can't comment on Sikth live, cuz I've never seen them live). Although Machine Head are not a good band. It's not a case of being "clueless", it's a case of having an opinion that you don't agree with. Aren't opinions a great thing to have?? Furthermore, the Coheed and Cambria album is sheer genius, and the fact that it hasn't been included is just plain criminal. Plus, Million Dead are not THAT similar to Hundred Reasons - for starters, they're lyrically miles apart. And HR's album sounds a tad more polished than Million Dead's - just a TINY bit :-) and damian, no-one's that bothered about albums not being included, it's just having a god-damn opinion. I take it you've never had a debate before then....

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Nah, I don't mind going to louder gigs (well... Mars Volta loud.)

I just choose to listen to quieter music. It's easier to appreciate on record.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Hmmmm, Girls Aloud in the top 50?
I lost all respect for the list when I saw that. But I do think you've more or less hit the nail on the head with the rest of the list. Good job.

And to all the sensitive types, stop whining. It's Christmas, season of goodwill and all that. Just have another beer, you'll be fine laddies. Never know, might even lose your virginity while you're at it *thumbs up*

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

just got in a superb one - Luke Vibert / YosepH on Warp records. Fuggin ace mashed-up house class.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Hey, is your name Imran Ahmed by anychane? Do you write for NME?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Don't forget Cool as by the Inspiral Carpets, it may of been a greatest hits on one CD but the rare unrelased stuff on the second CD still pissed on most of the current scene

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

why the fuck is there a complete lack of any ska albums?!

fuckin Lightyear, Ye Wiles, Adequate Seven, in fact, pretty much anything released by Household Name Records this year as amazing...dear me...

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

only 1 other person with InMe - Overgrown Eden in their list? oh dear. :( it was a great album .. sure not top .. but worthy to be in top 75 definatly.. get that darkness shit out of there! unoriginal generic shit.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Thank you so much! You are the only list I have seen so far this year to include The Mars Volta. De-Loused is an amazing album, and I had come to the conclusion that everyone in the industry had forgotten about it but me. You guys rock!

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Yeah... Tom McRae noticable by his absence! His latest is a beautiful work.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

are inme not unoriginal? how about generic?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Dear all,
I'm not sorry for the albums I voted for.

Love Dale xxx

PS: MAERY KRISMASZ!

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Blair, I voted for the Coheed & Cambria album... it's not up there because hardly anyone else did. Can't fault science.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Errr have you seen any other lists? It's in NME and Q for two and those are the only other ones I've seen so far.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Alabama 3 - It's "Mashville" - not "Nashville" - no worries. The record is good - too bad this band is pegged 'alt.country techno geeks' b/c of the Sopranos theme - but they drink whiskey and bathe in blood...

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

anyone got Volume 1? not heard it yet

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Before anyone shouts "Hey, don't shoot the messenger, this list is the combined opinions of the staff", I'm not arguing, but these are my opinions.

I'm not sure what Biffy Clyro are doing in there, they're nowhere near as good as people make out. As for Funeral for a Friend, unfortunately they've gone the way of the parent-friendly heartfelt emo band who started off raw but unfortunately remixed stuff and never sounded quite as good again. As for BRMC, in my opinion they should not even have a record deal, to quote the title of a song by Instruction, "Death to the four-car garage band".

Jetplane Landing should have been higher as should Thursday, and this list is sorely missing the Copperpot Journals, Lightyear and Forever Until October. Also, if this list is indeed cosmopolitan, I would include Nitin Sawhney - Human as this was one of the most beautiful creations I heard all year.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

I voted Copperpot Journals. Don't think anyone else did though.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

yeah human was a good album, damnit.

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

The Darkness aren't the country's number one band, but even if they were, this was a poll regarding our favourite <B>albums</B>, not bands!

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Another idea would be for this writers chart to actually list the total score that each album accumulated, so it can be seen how close the votes actually were.

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

wow thats a lot of posts...i like the list, its great how opinion spawns opinion, don't you think?

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

Is it just me or should kinesis have atleast made it in there somewhere?

Re: DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

TRANSLATION:

*eyes well up from the sting of righteous chastising* "Well... you did something bad too....*sniff, sniff*... but, *sniff* I don't care anyways. SCREW YOU GUYS...I'M LEAVING!" *red-faced, slams bedroom door*

DiS Staff Top 75 Albums of 2003

ok...if St. Anger (one of my candidates for most dissapointing album of the year) got on the list, how did Blink 182's latest album not get on there?

because nobody liked it?
