The Koreans: Drowned in Sound The Label, Debut Release!

The debut release on Drowned in Sound, will happen on July 21st 2003, it'll be called 'Machine Code' and it'll be by The Koreans.
Why have we started a label? It's pretty simple really. We could just do the music industry's scouting job all day, everyday, for free and do horrid things to pay the rent. We could compromise. We could get paid by some cigar smoking fat cat to write nice things about rubbish bands. Or, we could put out some damn fine records, by bands we love, and in turn, become culture munching capitalists, whilst still greasing the wheels of the underground and offering a genuine proactive alternative to the mainstream music media.
You may have noticed, we've written about The Koreans on DiS a few times. We've put them on at some of our London gigs. We've put up links to their MP3s and have generally gone on about them for a while now. And if you've heard their house-party pop, you'll understand why we go on quite so much about four disco loving, guitar swinging, theremin rubbing, guys from Camberwell in South London.
The single ‘Machine Code’ was produced by Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley (Elvis Costello/Teardrop Explodes) and from the buzz we're getting back, it could be on the radio before too long! Come catch 'em live and see what the fuss is all about...

Whatever next? DiSTV? jeesus.Would Sean's ego be too big to fit into the TV tho, thats a big question.....
next up! How about a "all our favourite bands play a free festival in a tiny venue they have no dreams of filling" news article??? Oh, been there, done that.
I'm so glad this has nothing to do with me.

Just cus I think you're a boring arse who writes long boring articles and slags of best ofs in the same way and doesn't really have any clue whats happened in music since 1990, then yeah, i run this site 7days a week, every waking hour i have, really badly.
Take your baldy brummy life and go do something constructive with it. You can moan all you want cheeselips, call me 'dear' all you like, try and kick me at every turn, but you've gotta kick a fucken lot to stop me.
Media empires are for pussies. Trying to shake some peoples hips, open peoples ears to music they might not have had chance to check out before, giving people a chance to write how music reviews should be written (with personality, social commentary and lots of imagery).. well yeah, thats a media empire, that's so nme, that's so done before, that's such a bad thing to wanna do with my life, than say, i dunno, waste my time posting abuse on a messageboard.

Owch.
Owww.
Poor old Graham, he'll only ever be as hasbeen.
Diddums.
*Sigh*
Diddums.
hmmm
and to say the sean runs DiS badly is another poor criticism - it's not as if Sean is paid money to run DiS and, given that it's almost entirely a labour of love (save for a guestlist place here and there), he does a good job of running one of the better webzines around. Ok, so it's not without its faults, but it's not run by complacent people so it's only going to get better.
does Sean want to centre DiS around his own personality and become some kind of indie celeb as graham seems to think? Probably not. Much as he probably likes the idea, it's no more than anyone else would. I daresay Graham liked the fact that people attacked him on DiS message boards cos it made him feel like he had some kind of notoriety - whereas people just thought he was a misinformed tosser.
Finally, you say you're glad this has nothing to do with you when clearly everyone at DiS is glad for precisely the same reason. No-one misses you, but the fact that you still post on these message boards indicates an ever present yearning.
I also think i should mention that the only two overwhelmingly positive reviews that Graham wrote in his time at DiS were given to Iron Maiden and the Younger Younger 28s. I think you can all draw your own conclusion from that.

Again: why are you still reading this site if you hate it so much? You keep ignoring this question.

"Take your baldy brummy life and go do something constructive with it. You can moan all you want cheeselips, call me 'dear' all you like, try and kick
me at every turn, "
.... which is so very mature, shock- and awe-inspiring, and frankly, quite juvenile. Do some growing up.
Re: The Koreans: Drowned in Sound The Label, Debut Release!
long live drowned in sound.
p.s. and for the record, i think shauns attitude is grate! we need more people who'll stand up for what they believe in.

currently the contributor numbers run into the hundreds with some people writing one or two articles, some one or two hundred... and how many have left in a huff of one sort or another? even 2%?
that's some big numbers there alright.

I don't use people. I don't expect anything more than people want to put in. I don't benefit if this is the greatest site in the world, other people, do. Bands. Labels. Promoters. Etc, etc.
I can't ever remember asking you do anything for me. I don't remember forcing you to do anything you didn't want to do. I do remember you filling the site that i bust my gut to run with stuff I didn't like, nor did anyone else. Yes they got a lot of comments. A lot of negative comments.
Quitcha moaning and show us you're not all talk. Go on, start a site, fill it with your articles... people like you are all talk. And apart from wasting my time, I dont see what good you do.
Sean
