DiS' Class Of 2009 #9: School Of Seven Bells
- Artists:
- School Of Seven Bells »
DiS' Class Of 2009 is comprised of bands our core contributors really think you should be listening to. Simple as. We're not necessarily saying they'll 'blow up' or 'cross over' or any of that industry nonsense, but we are saying we think they're great and have a hunch at least some of you will agree...
School Of Seven Bells
Fans of Broadcast, Electrelane, Ladytron, Au Revoir Simone and lushgaze acts like that: I do hope you're reading this, as Brooklyn's School Of Seven Bells - comprising sisters Alejandra and Claudia Deheza, plus former Secret Machine Benjamin Curtis - have been rummaging in those closets full of Velvet Underground drones, My Bloody Valentine haze and throwing in some electronic(a) sounds for good measure. The resulting daydream-pop, topped off by a-bit-like-honey harmonies, has had the ranks of DiS in a whirl. The pedants amongst you will take pride in pointing out that their debut album Alpinisms was actually released in November 2008 to rapturous reviews, especially from P4K and the broadsheets of New York. However, if, like me, you didn't get round to checking them out on import, nor saw them on their mini-tour of pub backrooms, better late than never: you can fall in love with them when they return to the UK next month, or wait a bit (April) to see them supporting Bat For Lashes on her new album tour. Soon, no doubt, you'll be reading enthused features in the broadsheets of London, too.
- Debut LP Alpinisms is re-released on February 23rd via Full Time Hobby. The band tour in support of the release that month, then with Bat For Lashes in April.

DiSband #5: The Subways
Yeah, I's sorry I missed them opening for M83 last month (in LA)
It's a really solid record. There's a miss of spine tingling excitement that might make me fawn over them, but I won't be surprised if they accomplish greatness with their next effort.
Half asleep is awesome,
the rest of the album not so much. I'll try and catch them live though...
Great album.
The artwork is spectacular!
The album is very nice,
but a lot of the rough edges that made their early demos so good have been polished off. Looking forward to the live shows.
