To round off a week of Futureheads' content (which hopefully you've found far more enlightening than the typical interview fare) the band summarise 2008 and talk about their plans for 2009. DiS would like to say a special thank you to the boys for helping out this week and creating such a varied and revealing selection of content.
So that was 2008... 2009 for the Futureheads
2008 has seemed crazy long for the futuremen. January and February's small van tours seem as much of a distant memory as touring with the Kills does in 2004. Since then we've released our third LP, had our biggest ever hit with 'Beginning of the Twist' and done more festivals than I thought was possible. We've set up our own label, been to Japan, Australia and continental Europe: Ross has already told you about some of the best gigs.
So then, what about 2009? Well, to be honest, bands are simple: you write songs, you practise them, you record them, you tour them. That's why we set up our label - more to the point, that's why we formed! So, unsurprisingly that's what we've got planned. Barry and Ross say they've got bits and bobs we can work on already...and I think we're all looking forward to getting in the rehearsal room and seeing what we can thrash out. We haven't really chatted about anything other than just wanting to do it: producers, time frames, they come later. It'll be good for us to have a little time off over Christmas, then hit the ground running at the end of January.
As a band I think we've made three pretty different records - all three sound like us, but they all have unique qualities. So for album 4 I guess you'll just have to watch this space...but I don't see us going acoustic any time soon, or developing a penchant for slap bass. It would be good to get another record out straight away but I think we want to make sure it's right...maybe test a few of the songs live? Enjoy playing some festivals in the summer maybe? What's great now we have Nul records set up and running pretty smoothly is that we can literally do as we please. If we wanna do an EP before the record, we can; if we wanna do a double album, we can. It's a great position to be in and we should have some fruits of our labour to be digested by YOU! next year.

oh to hear a futureheads
song with slap bass.
Saw them in Cheltenham
on Tuesday...and Barry made the cardinal sin of saying 'It's lovely to be here in Chelmsford'...without trying to be funny..silly boy. Fucking brilliant gig though
he was totally mortified about that
the poor lad.
I kept trying to think how seperated must bands
be from reality to not know where they are?? Not as in thinking they are above us proles, but the fact that there all over the place so much, everywheres the same. Plus the fact that Cheltenham isn't exactly the most renowned of places...
Double album?
Yes please.
