DiS darted down to the Hoxton Bar & Grill last night to catch the first London club show in quite some time from some of our favourite Australians, Howling Bells.
The four-piece, fronted by the very photogenic Juanita Stein, played tracks from their 2006 self-titled debut, reviewed here, alongside new cuts from their as-yet-untitled second LP, due out later this year.
All photographs by Holly Erskine.

Howling Bells are yours to befriend on MySpace here, and you can see them in a video right below these words.

She is literally
the most beautiful woman i've ever seen in the flesh
almost
I can't quite say the same is true, but this is a most welcome return for a wonderful band..!
I agree.
She makes your stomach ripple like a fat person's bottom being slapped.
Great photos
Holly!!!
new stuff sounded great last night
'nightingale' was pretty awesome - really slow, moody song that was quite beautiful.
couple of the other newies didn't have juanita on guitar so she sort of danced around doing hand claps and what not.
the song they closed the main set with 'radio wars' saw juanita play drums on the ones on the side of the stage which was rather unexpected.
i love this band
i feel like a prick saying it, but she is soooo beautiful. swooon.
it was
a good gig and that support band Chief were pretty good also. my ears are still ringing, it was louder than i realised.
that chiefs band
saw them with the whigs last week and didn't think much of them but they seemed a lot better supporting howling bells. they kind of remind me a bit of yeasayer for some reason
Such a great gig!
The new songs sounded so strong instantly - always a good sign.
Can't wait for their album to be released! I am one excited motherfucker!
Yeasayer...
It's the hair you see.
Seriously though...
Great four part harmonies for Chief, and some great tunes. Definitely gonna be hearing more from them.
Howling Bells stole it obviously!
She's far too lovely to wank over.
A face that exquisite demands worship not masturbation!
finally
a band with a pretty girl in it that deserves to have some success based on merit. Yes that was a vscious swipe at the ting tings.
makes me forget about the music
she is really fit, hope she reads this and gets in contact...
fit for nothing
awful wannabe pop stars..
^
This.
She. Is. Gorgeous.
