Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Oh happy day!

T'is another historical day in the life of Drowned in Sound. Not only has Martha Wainwright sold out The Barfly before the first live advert has run but our second album release finally hits stores this week...

REDJETSON: Debut Album Out NOW!

Its been a few months coming but the debut album from REDJETSON, has been worth the wait, well if you believe our ears and the words of the press!

The Fly have run a glorious 4/5 review in this month's issue and they interviewed the band in Dublin (whilst out there playing with old friends Bloc Party and drinking plenty o’ Guinness) last week for a 'Ones to Watch' feature. Kerrang! have said nice things too like that it is 'A masterpiece of invention' and we can’t ask for much nicer things to be said than that! If you do a little Google there're lots of lovely 'zines describing the album as beautiful in various (blushingly) gushing ways.

You can hear samples of it online HERE

MARTHA WAINWRIGHT: New Shows!

The first single from the album 'Factory', is released on March 21st.

Martha returns to the UK in February, and due to demand has added a headline show at London's Scala. See Martha live at the following shows:

OH MY GOD! IT'S KAISER CHIEFS!:

They may no longer be our babies, but you can't miss them in the media this month. A re-release of their limited edition pop genius debut single 'Oh My God' which we loved and released last year is due very soon - and quite amusingly Q magazine have made a nice cock-up and said we're releasing it this time around. Bless. Watch their world domination continue...

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

They didn't have it in Guildford HMV which was a bit annoying, they even had the Hood album last week. Maybe I'll go search for it in London tomorrow on my way to Idlewild...

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

ive been all over the west end today...but cant get it for shit, i got told in HMV (near charing cross road) that they had three copies but they couldnt find them! on the positive side he said he'd been asked by about 15 people already...so they're gonna order some

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

HMV in Doncaster has one copy!!!

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Sorry, that should have read HAD a copy, it's in my high fi now...

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Rec

i wouldn't count on the aereogramme gig, they've already cancelled a lot of dates as Iain is ill.

:o)

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

the Club AC30 date is the 8th March, not the 9th march.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

the music is very beautiful, but im sorry, i just dont like his vocals

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

u could argue, its a nice contrast, but im still not convinced

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

i thought they were playing with ymss in norwich sometime? march or april or something?

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

I really like his vocals. Its nice to hear a band like Redjetson who can actually sing well over post-rock sounds... Divorce off the new album is an amazing track, his voice works really well on it.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Tis rather wonderful, methinks. And truly terrifying when 'A Reptile, Cold Blood' kicks in.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Just added some more dates - just about to html them

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Also, for those more mp3 inclined you can get it from all good online stores. Our choice is bignoisemusic.com who support Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

hmmm,

listening to them more, maybe they're not too bad

perhaps you get used to it, an aquired taste?

maybe his voice is like coffee, wine and olives.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

For some people Clive's voice does take a bit of getting used to - mostly because it's the kinda music which if you're familar with listening to that kinda thang you dont expect lyrics.
It's like go faster stripes on an aeroplane, you wouldn't expect 'em to be there but it makes perfect sense.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

I GOT 1 ...YAY!!! i got the last copy in HMV oxford circus... i saw copies in fopp as well..."a stream flows on out of here"....

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

I'm going to order mine online. Play.com are selling it for £9.99 (although it does say currently not available when you look at it. Hmmmm).

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Also, DiS, where's the review? Pull your finger out, they are on your own record label.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

It'd be totally wrong to review a record on our own label tho. Wouldn't it?

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

yep
that's why nme, kerrang and rocksound do it
it is evil
and unusually sycophantic

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Also, I'd say Drowned in Sound's opinion of the album is made pretty clear by the simple fact that they've released it...

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Oh yes, I see your point Sean. Might as well get band members to review their own records. Or you could review it and slag it off just to prove you are 'keeping it real'.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

well just get some other flunky to review it and post that...ive released farts with bigger umph!

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

it looks like DiS are more interested in Bloc Party and keeping up with the hype than looking after their own...sorry im just a big fan of the redjetson.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

sycophantic? you could just try being a bit more enthusiastic...as if other labels dont use their websites to promote their bands!

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

we are all very enthusiastic
but that is our policy
in place so people cannot complain that we only big up our bands
do you understand?
instead we get morons like you moaning instead

and this isn't the label website either, by the way

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

ok...touchy...hit a raw nerve did i...?

i wasnt moaning, so excuse me for pointing out your fuckin inadequacies...excuse me for assuming i could expect to buy an album on the day it's released...

oh yeah and while your at it just abuse the very (limited) fan base you have...way to go dick slash!

no wonder NME (who are twats) dont have time for you or your bands...

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Sorry I think you misunderstood Raz (DiS website contributor) sense of humour here.

We have bigged up Redjetson quite a bit on the site, but there's a certain point where it stops sounding like praise and starts seeming like DiS is a monopolistic facade for promoting its own wares. I do only sign bands because I absolutely adore them and you have to if you're going to risk money, reputation and time in something you believe in.

Not quite sure where the last bit about the NME came from. They were and still are rather supportive of the Kaiser Chiefs, and they called the thisGIRL album one of the rock records of the year in an 8/10 review.

We do apologise for the distribution 'problems' it's just another example of what we're up against. If it was maths it'd be something like: numbers of releases a week x corporate cash x store buyers lack of taking risks on new artistes = indies/new small artistes suffering again.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Am I the only person here that's yet to hear this album?
Someone, do the right thing...

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Anyone read the Audiojunkies review?

It's different

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

the Audiojunkies review is funny as fuck...loved the drawing for ...the sky is breaking!

ok sean thats cool...i get the math...so to speak and i did get a copy in the end.

NME...i was just repeating something i heard (off the record) i'll shut up and say no more...you are very right they do indeed champion the Kaiser chiefs...it wouldn't hurt them to mention redjetson once in a while (save the ICA thing) instead of endless adolation of "pete "im a smack head, get me out of this taxi...again" Doherty, think i'll stick one in Kate Moss"

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Send Katie a begging e-mail. It's the only way.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

you need some collateral
like the drummer's coat

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

is that a member of the pipettes in the drawing for "america is its only friend"?

fucking SUPERB.

xxx

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

there was a picture type review on plan b recently
for the tom waits live gig
'inspired' by that i imagine

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

boring they are...the lead singer needs some singing lessons - reckon if they got a girl on vocals would suit the melodies a lot better. also, seem really uncharismatic - it's not 'always about the music man'

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

you're a very joyful lady aintcha?
there're quite a few people who've said similar things and given them more time and been proven wrong. and many many more, especially folks who've reviewed the record, who completely and utterly disagree. as do we, else we wouldn't be investing our time into releasing the record.
but your vote of no-confidence is greatfully accepted.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Is that an offer (female vocalist?)

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Aw but i love his voice. So dark and droney. Makes me think of Interpol.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Different strokes for different folks.

We know that what we do isn't going to be liked by everyone - but what music is?

It's all good.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

so true what you say IanJ

keep clive absolutely, they could try experimenting with some female backing vocals perhaps for the next one..??

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

woahhhh don't choke on your milkshake, boy!

cool it. just an opinion. come on, get the fans to defend the music. also, love the voice of the interpol singer. i just don't get what your music is about ---- i say 'your' cos i feel like i'm talking to someone or the other in the band, right? don't take it personally.

anyway, i'm gonna go and listen to some soothing bird sounds byeeeeeeeeeeee xxxxx

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

now i've listened to 'sounds of the bahamas canaries no.10', i have to add - since when do what the critics say matter???! critics generally are cowardly things.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Hey

Who's choking on their milshake?

I think I'm the only member of redjetson who's posted on this thread by the way.

I have no problem with you if you don't like our music or our singer.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

My two-penny worth:

I really like this album, although it took me an age to finally hear it. What it lacks - the production's a little tinny in my opinion, and some of the songs aren't totally realised - it makes up for with bucket-, nay, skip-loads of potential. Some of the songs on the record drip with emotion and soul, so much moreso than anything produced by, say, Mogwai recently (who Redjetson were unfairly compared to in one magazine review).

I can't get enough of them live - I think it's there that they truly shine. Never was this more apparent than when they played the ICA show with YMSS. I consider YMSS to be THE FINEST band in this country, bar none, and Redjetson held their own superbly. Any initial doubts I had - and Clive's voice was one of them - I am now over. Sure, the album's not the classic that they are clearly capable of producing in the future (and they will, mark my words), but it is SO good for a debut. SO, SO, SOOOOO good. I may just put it on right now y'know...

The only REAL gripe: better production next time. That's not intended as a slur on John Hannon, who has worked with some ace bands in the past and produced some wonderful records, but I think Redjetson need someone who'll bring warmth to the recording; a little more texture. That said, Hannon's trumpet-playing is really effective, and the cello work on the latter tracks... superb.

Okay, sorry. Didn't intend to write that much.
I'll get my coat...

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Not meaning to be defensive about the record of the product but do bare in mind the size of the budget we/they had to make this. Think there's a lot of magic in the fact it wasn't recorded in anywhere posh or grand, but that some of it was recorded in the No Recording studio kitchen.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

In the kitchen?
That's cool.
The only thing missing is the whistle from a stove-top kettle.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

all things said and done...it wouldn't hurt Redjetson or DiS to shift a few more copies...is it stupid amounts of money to get it on the new release rack? or a small ad in the music press? I can see a cult fan base beginning to form.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

I've seen ads for it in the press.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

How do ladies and gentlemen!!

I got the album today, wooooooaaaahhh!! Great stuff, the at times "tinny" production is great, I don't see Redjetson to be a perfectly polished rock act!! I was worried that the album wouldn't bring out the part of Redjetson that you see live but thankfully it has!! The sounds are magical, "Wednesdays Rivals" what a song!!!!

Great stuff lads will be in my cd player for ages
Hope to see you soon,

Stuart (The Exploits)

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

hey it's cool. let's all make love not war. and i do like that you recorded in a kitchen. that's cool. and some of your band members are hot!!! anyway, i am gonna go and catch a plane now.

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Well, I am really liking their debut album. I was not totally convinced by Clives' vocals, the first time I saw Redjetson at Truck, last year. But, I have seen the band perform many times since then, and have realised just how well the vocals and instrumentals meld now. They just seem to get better every time I see them. The ICA Youthmovie/ The Edmund Fitzgerald/ Redjetson sets confirmed how great they can be (all the bands were superb)
I have no criticisms to make of their album. I find I am playing it lots, and enjoying it more with each play. They seem to have really developed their unique sound and produced some killer songs on it. I hope it brings them even more fans than they allready have, they deserve it :)

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

aw, all of you then. but only if we're talking about the blonde boy band one, the dark one (wow), and the ginger one. happy?! oh dear, i've come across all fangirl. x

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Haha. Milkshake. There's a reason that's funny in relation to Mr Jarrold....

I don't understand people who say Clive 'can't sing'. He quite blatantly can. He's got a distinctive style that's not to everyone's taste- that I can understand- but to say he "can't sing" is trollope.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

"Haha. Milkshake. There's a reason that's funny in relation to Mr Jarrold.... "

There is???!!!

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Ah yes! My colleague Dan C has just reminded me about the 'breast' milkshake I've ever had... heheh!

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

what's this, i want to know....it's rude not to share (as long as it's not a 'breast' milkshake, you're sharing'). that's some serious lactation.

Re: Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

Ian likes Wolverhampton, cos he had the "breast milkshake of his life" there once.

Don't ask.

(it's not actually that interesting).

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Recordings

okay. i won't. sounds like some awful sexual term.

x

Redjetson debut LP out NOW on Drowned in Sound Rec

Bought this album yesterday, never actually heard the band, just the hype, and I am all for buying stuff purely on the reviews (if more people did that with my album then we may have sold some)

Anyway, so far this album hasnt set my world alight as the reviews said it would, but I am gonna give it a really good listen over this week and then reply back to this board.

The lead singers voice seems to grate, and I am not sure whether he is actually singing in tune, but I may turn out to actually love it..... lets wait and see
