FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marquee, London

We could give you the best new bands in Britain for £3 once a month, but we don’t want to give you that!

We wanna make access to new music as accessible to all as possible. And after the success of our Free Entry 4th Birthday Party @ the Marquee (1 Leicester Square) with as seen on CD:UK and Popworld, pop sensations Do Me Bad Things, the good folks at Plum Promotions are now having us back once a month, as part of their series of Free Monday Night Breakthrough gigs. What this means is that you can come see the same level of great new bands on their way to big things, ages before anyone else, and some of the most interesting creative gunslingers, some signed to great indie labels, some unsigned, all for absolutely nothing, once a month...

Our past shows have seen the likes of Bloc Party, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs and many more strutting their stuff 18months or more before assaulting the mainstream. Wouldn’t it be good to be able to say, with a knowing smile, you were there then, rather than lying about it?

Drowned in Sound presents…
…in association with Plum Promotions
…in aid of Oxfam' Make Trade Fair Campaign.

Monday 22nd November 2004
@ The Marquee
1, Leicester Square, London
Nearest Tube: Leicester Square
Doors: 7.30pm – arrive early to avoid disappointment

FLEEING NEW YORK
Quite possibly the most exciting new bands in Britain, with pop suss of the 80s fringe variety and the drifting cool of Detroit and Dandy Warhols. These pesky indie kids from Southampton have been creating quite a stir, come see why we’ve been raving about them for months.
Sample Track: 'Hollywood Bowl'

CRANEBUILDERS
Their gliding brand of art-pop caught the ears of none other than Elbow’s Guy Garvey and the folks of I Am Kloot, who snapped up these Liverpudlians for their Skinny Dog label. In a parallel world they're probably what Belle & Sebastian would make with The Fall and The Postal Service.
Sample Track: 'Bitch'

MY LUMINARIES
Giant thumping pop rock, rather like a widescreen Fountains Of Wayne. Their new recordings have caught the ears of many a record company man, and armed with tracks like the nagging, insatiable 'All I Really Want', it's not too surprising at all.

DiScuss See you down the front? What do you think of these bands? Who do you suggest should play our next night?

FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marquee, London

THis sound really cool will have to try to get down. This sounds cool and the cranebuilders sound interesting especially if they are anywhere as wonderful as the postal service. As for more bands to play get Bobby Conn if he's every in town again! Or trinovantes, maybe?

Bands Innit...

Bands that should play your night:

Rebus: Causing a v.big stir in Reading, by just being great. Loads of great reviews 'cos they have great songs. Being courted by at least 2 record label company type things. Just, brilliant - www.rebustheband.co.uk

New Rhodes: Probably heard of them anyway....fookin' fab tunes. They look good, done all that ITC stuff too. Yes. Get these too. www.newrhodes.com

Ludes: I think they have already played for you? Maybe? No? Oh, ok. But, theyre very good. Yes. Ooh get them. www.ludesmusic.com

I 'spose just saying "theyre great" is a bit crap, but its true... ;-)

Now, that, plus maybe one of your "special guest" type things is a GIG!

Ludes: "I think they have already played for you? Maybe? No?"

Yes. Twice. Once electric and once acoustic.

So there.

Re: Bands Innit...

Well yes, i thought they may have done..but was unable to remember for sure. I was right the first time, and then talked myself out of it.

Oh well, maybe not them then.

But the others...or have they played for you also? Not "the others" but the others i mentioned...oh you know..

btw- Fleeing New York are fantastic. I saw them in Reading a month ago. Very impressed. So, yes, good call.

Re: FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marque

Re: FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marquee, London

I bought their first CD ["Demonstration"] from FOPP's unsigned section last year, and listened to it on the way home.. The instrumentation on '81 Minutes' blew my mind. Fantastic stuff, I really need to catch one of their live performances...

Do me bad things on cd:uk and popworld. Your proud of this? Oh dear. Lets hope none of these bands are a repeat of the birthday bash.

FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marquee, London

They're probably not your bag but Raising Sand are a shit hot live act and I'd deffo come down if they were playing - saw them with Redjetson and Youth Movie last week

Re: FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marquee, London

For a self-made pop band to get onto pop tv, it's no shocker.
That is a very predictable, very british, very indier than thou comment to make brodieman. C'mon, you can do better than that. Or probably not...

FREE ENTRY: New Monthly DiS Night @ The Marquee, London

I predict.....Feeder.

They are:
