Highlights from last thread:
Always rated Robert Patricks.
they get even more embarrassing
but only made 22 appearances in our shitstorm of a season in the championship last season. Hopefully we can have him back on loan from you for a year.
Either way we've mugged you off in terms of price
Dulwich did pretty well considering Charlton fielded a fairly strong team, pulling back from 3-0 down to a respectable and deserved 3-2. Charlton scored a couple worldies, sun was out, nice day had by all
OH MAN FOOTBALL IS BACK.
They wouldn't be buying a load of bench warmers.
Pogba, Verratti, de Bruyne, Varane and Ibra to soon follow.
The only way we'll ever be able to justify selling Rooney is if he's given an absolute free reign up front and fails to deliver. Hopefully at that point, LVG would ruthlessly exile him to Turkey.
Also, Pedro would be a totally rubbish/pointless signing for us, even with Di Maria leaving.
and he doesn't really bring goals, which is what we seriously need in a forward. We'd probablu need 80-100 goals to challenge for the title and it's hard to see where they'll come from.
Depay will play a lot.
Front 3 of Depay, Rooney and Pedro looks good to me.
Pedro offers a more direct thread, and Mata could play in a 3 with Schweiny and Schneidy when Pedro is in the front 3. Depay will also play up front I reckon. presuming Di Maria goes I think its a very astute signing.
Not a lot of cash, ridiculous amount of experience considering he's not old, would probably be happy to not play every game and works his bollocks off.
I'm not saying Pedro is a bad player, at all. I just don't see the need for him. I also think Januzaj has the potential to be better and, importantly, more productive than he ever has been. Right now, if we sign a forward, it should be someone who'll contribute 15 goals, because that's where we're lacking. Not sure Pedro would do.
Seen enough flashes of brilliance from him to suggest he could be great, a match winner. Last season was a major dip from him when he'd have been expected to kick on, but he's still 20 years old, and a number of players and staff have said he's the best young player they've worked with bar Ronaldo. Who many people wrote off after a shaky season, himself.
Granted, there's a decent chance he won't fulfill that promise, but I still believe he could be excellent.
combined with quick feet and good pace. I still believe in him
He's got a great goal record for a wide player
same league as last few years so a lot of names already on it,...think im bored of it already and whats with the points boost things?
That's got to be the least awful thing he's done though.
the guy who plays him is 38
but this image is genuinely great in how on the nose it is http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/416xn/p02xl5gp.jpg
but that was just perfect (I watched with the sound off)
I would quite genuinely have to start supporting them if he did and I don't feel I am ready for the squid's embrace
No-one wants to see a Muller Corner
I'll get me coat.
BUT IT WASN'T AN ACCIDENT :O
They've rejected a made up €100m bid, if that doesn't put us off nothing will
The fans would revolt.
for a profit
he makes charlie corluka look like (100% clean) justin gatlin.
who was plucked by a north london team out of the french league for about £3m.
surely that's your specialist subject?
I'd be all over it
LvG isn't gonna blow smoke up some new boys arse. He said the same about Schneiderlin and Depay. Darmian will be regular righback.
Coming to United according to Thumb in a Suit:
It's going to be some unknown Croatian 17-year-old, isn't it?
Hates them with a passion.
Even though it would be a ridiculous thing. Just want to see him play in the Premier League.
This Iheanachu lad looks the business.
Every time Navas is allowed to play is another quarter million knocked off the price we're eventually going to sell him to Sunderland for.
not really a fan.
"I wanted a change of scenery. The most important thing was to come to England to improve and aim for a big club later."
Mourinho is such a twat-faced thunder-cunt, an absolute crybaby that's clearly not used to not getting what he wants
Here's the actual 3rd kit
the yellow shorts on the away kit is a disgrace
good job there are no other yellow or green teams huh?
(p.s I actually think the 3rd and home kits would be pretty smart if it wasn't for that fucking yellow box)
If they draw a team with a green kit in the cup (plymouth??) they'll need a new 4th kit :D
but yes forgot about Watford, not that that's a problem as there's no green
First one looks genuinely happy, second one trying to keep a smile, third one just not having it any more.
like a shit, small time rugby team
small-time rugby team
that rugby team is small time
There were two others who were planning on going to Union Berlin vs Palace at the weekend, I can't remember who, but did you go?
It was good fun, they've got a lovely little ground, their support was superb and they were friendly. Drinking beer on a terrace was different. We went to the Union Berlin pub after the game and they were very welcoming.
I thought we did quite well in the 1st half, but but a total second sting (apart from Cabaye who came on) and we were a lot weaker.
We had two goals disallowed (which I wasn't convinced by) and hit the bar. But all in all I wasn't bothered as the main reason was for a trip to Berlin.
I went on Friday and got home at 9pm last night, doing all the touristy things on Saturday morning, Sunday and yesterday morning.
but I was surprised by the result, loveable as Union are they are... well... pish?
Great stadium though innit, sounds like you had a cracker. I'm hopefully seeing them play Kaiserslauten (again!) in a couple weeks
It was a brilliant weekend. They seemed up for it and we never really got out of first gear. Still should have beat them though.
He seemed to do pretty well at Boro.
although I'm not sure he's quite PL level just yet
My mums side of the family are from Middlesbrough, and my cousin said he was brilliant for them. I'm very happy with him on loan. He got 19 goals last season, I'd imagine we would still sign someone else.
I reckon he was just reiterating what he was saying about there being no plans to sign a striker so it would be a surprise to him
so muller, or bale, or welbeck.
Would be an odd one
"LvG reveals SHOCK new signing"
"LvG DESTROYS striker rumours with just 10 words"
ARSENAL TO SIGN 18 YEAR OLD WONDERKID IN MEGA DEAL (calls cost £2 per minute plus the fee charged by your provider)
Sweet fuck all here despite applying for about £500 worth
and it's only round the corner ffs
out of 6 people who applied for the max amount each
prawn sandwich seats no doubt
mental I thought that would happen when teams qualified. Ah well, I'm still planning on going over if Scotland make it just to get mad
presumably for neutral end tickets,
i guess each country that qualifies gets some too and they can sell them as they see fit at a later date? (£6000 booking fee after 99.9% of allocation donated to corporates no doubt)
can't wait. Still very likely I just go to France rather than any games but still!*
*pending inevitable collapse
got fuck all
Got a mate who refers to him as the German Kevin Nolan and it's difficult to argue against sometimes.
An obviously world-class player with no discernible world-class qualities. Not very fast, moderately good passer, rarely scores blooters but absurdly prolific for club and country.
also because he doesn't wear proper socks
and knows it
(However it's because his biological father was a cunner who he doesn't want to honour so relatively ok)
Is top left a disappointed dad looking down on them from heaven?
'Another Chelsea supporter, Dean Callis, 32, of Liverpool Road, Islington, received a five-year banning order ahead of the court hearing for a number of incidents, including the one in Paris, Scotland Yard confirmed.'
How Leeds fans do preseason European "friendlies".
When I went to Union Berlin at the weekend the police presence was extreme with riot fans on standby and loads of police, but nothing happened at all.
Great work all round.
Had a quote from a Leeds fan explaining how they'd only walked across the pitch to confront the German fans because they wanted to shake their hands.
Sounds like it was all a misunderstanding, tbh.
Did they push them as there was no room on the pitch?
The Germans were balaclava'd up and were well up for it apparently.
Wasn't the Leeds fans fault I've heard but it's still funny seeing them getting a kick in
The leeds fans looking like fat old blokes and the Frankfurt lot looking like a cage fighting gym day out make it even better
3 of them were Leeds.
I hate the scum, but I'm not sure this was ALL their fault....
Looks the nuts
Probably gonna win the league now
Got tickets for Charlton away first day of the season. Ah that burning tingle of hope (2-0 Chartlon nailed on)
Work mate's son has signed pro contract this season so might go a bit more often this year.
Love a weekend in Newport.
But have to attend a wedding on the Saturday.
I'm also somehow away for the first three or four matches. Stressing me out a bit.
Our signings are making me quite happy - but then I think this has possibly happened every pre-season for the past three or four years so there is that.
+ won this year's Dutch FA Cup
+ was voted 'player of the season' for FC Groningen
+ on the fringes of the national team
- 7 clubs in 8 seasons
- left childhood club FC Twente under a cloud
- turned down by Galatasaray, Napoli and Aston Villa
Three clubs that are massive compared to us and have much higher aspirations than us turned him down? Cool, that must mean we've pitched at the right level
Do you think it looks more professional if they bother to plug the machines in?
the plug is the last thing they need to worry about. surely it isn't
£18m is an absolute steal
Can't see it on their twitter.
Heart says keep him, head says ditch him. Doesn't have a clear place in our system, doesn't want to play for us, could wind up like a Torres type figure slowly dwindling in value. We're lucky to be in a position to flog him for big money, to be honest.
Good player like, but I'd say that's a pretty fair price, especially since that's about €30m at the moment.
Either way, be interesting to see how he gets on in the Prem. Could never quite tell if he was slightly shackled by having to play a certain role to help Messi etc. or if he's a good player made to look even better because of the quality around him.
It's reported on @english_as
For giving the finger to a bunch of fans who were doing monkey chants at him.
Still going to watch it, mind you.
That would be the Russian FA whitewashing the incident by stating that "There were no instances of racism. We have no grounds to take disciplinary sanctions against Spartak."
But Rayo Vallecano have just signed up Bebe on loan for the season after he made a solitary appearance for Benfica last year.
His side has also been either in the relegation playoffs, or relegated the last two seasons - despite actually doing fairly well for Paços de Ferreira. Granted, I didn't watch a second of him play last year, but it blows my mind that a half decent side in the best league in the world could think he was worth a punt.
Cordoba were the worst team in the league by a stretch last season so I don't think people really blame him.
Vallecano have tiny resources and are always rebuilding, probably only in La Liga due to their manager (probably similar to Wigan under Martinez). I doubt Bebe will start for them
John Aldridge's verdict:
"He gives something different, a massive presence up front."
(because Carroll and Balotelli were a great success)
"It's a fallacy when people say he doesn't play the Liverpool way. He knocked Liverpool out of the semi-final of the FA Cup when he played through the middle."
(what does the first sentence have to do with the second sentence?)
"He's very quick, very strong, very aggressive and that's something we haven't had for some time up front. It's something I'm really happy with and I think he'll bring a lot to the squad. "
"Because I didn't have a contract [this summer] I almost tried to come back [to Spurs], then Betis came and I decided to come to Betis, but Tottenham was always special...if [Spurs] had wanted me, I would have gone [back]. But Betis came and the decision was quite quick: Betis."
On origonally leaving Spurs -
"It was private things, but also when what's his name [Andre Villas-Boas] came he said to me 'you're not my number one' and I had played two years, like, unbelievable, so for me it was really strange that he said that to me. So then I said, well, it's better to leave and that is what happened... It was a stupid decision, the most stupid in my career to leave Tottenham. I absolutely regret it because it was the best two years in my football life."
"And Harry [Redknapp] — he was like your dad. I would give everything for that man; I was really sad when he left."
Mourinho banging on about it and now Captain Leader Legend and Gaz Caz have both been wheeled out to big him up and talk about how you 'can't say no to Chelsea'. Lot of bother to go through for a guy who could potentially start the season as 4th choice, has Jorge Mendes not got any good centre halves on his books?
or 6th-choice midfielder to help fulfil their homegrown quota, don't they?
Selfishly hoping Chelsea get Stones otherwise they're apparently going after Aaron Cresswell to sit on their bench for the season instead.
if he's going to develop as a player he needs to actually play - not be on the bench. Is there a possibility of Chelsea buying him then loaning him back to us? Everton is the perfect team for Stones at this stage of his career. Less pressure, more game time, but still playing in a highly competitive environment.
they looking for Stones as John Terry's replacement? If that's a seriosu consideration, even being on the bench a bit more would be worthwhile.
he's half the player Zouma is (if that), so even when captain bigot fucks off into the sunset he'll still be third choice (plus they'll probs smash another set of $$$$$ on a Marquinhos or someone)
they'd be far from the first to do so: Parker, Wright-Philips, Johnson, Zaha, Rodwell, Shaw, Sinclair, Bamford, Delph, etc, etc.
joined them at 18 and has played consistent first team football on loan ever since
Sure, he's not sitting on the bench, but presumably he's also not getting that much (non-financial) benefit from joining and training with a world-class club. He's just a stockpiled asset for now.
The loan system really needs to be shaken up - this is absurd: http://www.chelseafc.com/teams/on-loan-players.html
Basically relegating mid-level talent to the benches of big clubs, it's crap.
Romeu and Marin are still employed by them?
I think that applies to very young players, like Patrick Roberts for example, or players that clearly aren't good enough like Delph, but Stones has 18 months(?) of regular first team under his belt, so he's made that step up from potential to established Prem player.
Obviously playing every week would be the best thing for him, but Chelsea will play 50-60 games next season, so he'll get 20 odd appearances just through rotation, suspensions, cup games etc.
Chuck in the benefit of working with better players, facilities and coaches (plus, you know, winning some stuff and getting loads of dosh) and think you can make an argument that it's a good move for him.
Next opponents on the (very long) road to the champions league are QARABAG (Azerbaijan).
so the Magners logo was replaced on the strip with the Celtic charity foundation logo, which is basically a massive Celtic badge. More of this type of thing in future please.
Jamaica knocked out USA, and Panama were knocked out by some dodgy penalty decisions against Mexico, who've already had some shady stuff go their way.
This happened; http://i.imgur.com/C5Rx7Ff.gifv
Also Panama went mental; http://streamable.com/sa64
Sets up a Jamaica - Mexico final in the Gold Cup on sunday.
In the Copa Libertadores, Tigres of Mexico knocked out Brazil's Internacional. Gignac from Marseille scored, and there was this own goal; http://streamable.com/xgfu
They play a reinvigorated River Plate in a two-legged final, first of which next week. Both teams have now qualified for the club world cup in Japan
(quite looking forward to a potential River Plate - Barca final; should probably be the most appealing final since Barca - Santos in 2011 when Neymar and Danilo were there)
Probably a good move tbh. He needs first team football but it would be a shame to lose him completely in case he comes good.
Especially if the figure in the Grauniad (€5m) is true. Guess that clause only matters if he wants to move permanently, so maybe they're gambling on him wanting to come back next year regardless of any clause, but even if Wenger's decided he's had enough of him you'd think they'd be looking for about triple that to sell.
- essentially meaningless. I assume €5m is just a start point for haggling, plus him being off Arsenal's wage bill for a year might be factored in to the price. Dunno.
he was all dressed in black like a shit goth
#luisgarcia #sangria #bantz
but I didn't want to bump that one..
Have missed football threads loads more than actual football.
in the ways of European football at the moment.
Two red cards in three games from players throwing themselves on the floor and former Italian international Barry from Eastenders levelling up the tie. Ouch.
And I've watched England-Algeria and *many* games of DiS football.
Please make it stop.
Doesn't even have any foamy spray.
Take that Andy Partridge from XTC, the Maltese Falcon, and Maltesers, you fuckers!!
Take that Tony Drago, your Maltese boys took one hell of a beating (on penalties)!!
were also taken to extra-time! At home!
Until someone pointed out it was Inter Baku of Azerbaijan.
With a 5-2 aggregate win over the mighty HNK Rijeka. Great to see them come back after being 2-0 down, here’s hoping they can do the same 9,000 miles away against Kairat Almaty in the next round!
We've got £200m! And we're spending it on a striker! Don't worry about negotiating, just come and get it!
Are Real really likely to sell Benzema anyway? Would that mean they've got Kane lined up?
The list of superstar strikers is pretty short. It'll probably end up being Higuain though :(
Just as it looked like "tranny winder" comedy was over, Arsenal's striker WARCHEST rears its head again!
It's a shame you've only finished counting your money after every decent striker available has already moved. Could lead to a deadline day scramble!
Yes please yes please yes please!
Have to wait for another club to sign him up then bung them £200m.
Heard it here first
Could be a good shout
what's the code etc.
which might explain why the game was so poor. Pre-season fitness levels combined with 40 degree heat is never going to make for exciting football. I'm just glad we scraped through. Don't fancy us against the Romanians, though. :(
going into the season with Sakho as our only reliable striking option is asking for trouble. And that a bit more creativity still wouldn't go amiss either.
Maiga, Zarate, Nolan and Jarvis all look done to me. At least of last night's team, only 3 or 4 are actually likely to be first choice this season.
In fairness of the 4 to come in we're talking about our best centre half (maybe 2 best if Ogbonna lives up to his price tag), best striker and (hopefully) best midfielder/creative player (Payet).
Love the fact that we've progressed from being shit but fair to shit and violent. Last night was hilariously standard West Ham stuff.
We desperately need another quality striker and wide midfielder.
So only two outfield players from last night.
I'm an idiot.
---------- Kouyate-Noble -------------
---New Signing-Payet-Valencia ----
-------------- Sakho --------------------
So likeable too.
Kouyate, Payet, Lanzini and Amalfitano are all ahead of Jarvis in the pecking order, I think.
One more striker and we'll have a squad of
Carroll-Unknown new striker
Henry, Jarvis, Zarate
Looks alright to me.
And Bilic ideally wants to play 4-2-3-1. We're increasingly well-stocked for the sitting 2 - especially given Poyet's emergence and if Cambiasso/Song/Diarra sign - but don't have much quality in the 3 part right now.
but he's stepped up in the last two games. Did Uruguay ever have a war with Malta?
All reports including the player himself and Bilic see Payet being in the middle and Lanzini would seem to be his deputy in that position, so I'd rather we got ourselves a proper wide player rather than having to sacrifice the midde.
Having said that, there are rumours Bilic wants to play three centre halves with Jenkinson and Creswell providing the width, so that would make us less needy for wide midfielders. Same as if we play with a diamond like the beginning of last year under Allardici (RIP)
Don't fancy seeing Collins and Henry playing most weeks.
but we know at least one of them won't. All of this thinking about what sort of squad we need doesn't even allow for shitloads of injuries like we had last year.
With 90% of teams playing just one out-and-out striker these days you might as well play with 10 men.
Think people have just seen us sign a fourth senior centre-back (something that's been needed for about 4 seasons), added 2 and 2 together and come up with 7.
Out Of His Delph, innit LoL
there's a Forest Hill messageboard you need to troll
Ooof, that's gotta hurt them!
1. If You Choose A 16 year Old And A Celtic Player In Central Defence Against A Full Strength Real Madrid Side, You Will Lose 4-1
2. Sterling Has Promise, But Must Now Show It On A Regular Basis
and the seagull situation is getting worse and worse every year, it's like something from a Hitchcock film. They should try and train them to put off the opposition or something.
It doesn't help of course when one of the mascots is this
Literally, just football
a transpontine derby, in fact, starting in 15 minutes
all the Hammers aren't talking about it though because they fear embarrassment
Hance ending up with a 16-year-old captaining the side at the Valley. Great to hear it was a massive virtual point for the Addicks to celebrate though.
Think we know who's on top of this derby!!
Group A: Netherlands, France, Sweden, Bulgaria, Belarus, Luxembourg
Group B: Portugal, Switzerland, Hungary, Faroe Islands, Latvia, Andorra
Group C: Germany, Czech Republic, NORTHERN IRELAND, Norway, Azerbaijan, San Marino
Group D: WALES, Austria, Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Moldova, Georgia,
Group E: Romania, Denmark, Poland, Montenegro, Armenia, Kazakhstan
Group F: ENGLAND, Slovakia, SCOTLAND, Malta, Lithuania, Slovenia
Group G: Spain, Italy, Albania, Israel, Macedonia, Liechtenstein
Group H: Belgium, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Greece, Estonia, Cyprus
Group I : Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine, Turkey, Finland
Reasonable group and an excuse for a few days in Dublin.
England seem to have somehow got the easiest group of the lot again, so fair play to them.
Must be Blatter punishing them for Platini turning on him.
It's been a long fucking time
Reckon Cyprus will fancy their chances of doing the double over Greece
Been a while
they were dominating the game, we were looking a little turgid (especially Rooney), we took off a bunch of players (inc. Rooney), sent on the young guns and scored, like, within a minute.
inc. Hallilovic, which is intriguing.
And they couldn't handle it.
Imagine the outrage if we had lost the same amount. Still I suppose the United biased press will ignore what an utter failure it is, especially given they are odds on to win the quadruple now after their resounding triumph against Barca last night!
what's your worst memory as a football fan? this is mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhdC1r4SBsI&feature=youtu.be&t=6m18s
either fulham's last-minute equaliser in our premiership relegation season, when the lino gave them a free-kick for handball after their guy handled it
or derby's last-minute equaliser in our championship relegation season, proper 94th-minute long-throw job
both of the above goals were assisted by a botched header by one of our own players, obviously
oh, there was also luke varney taking it around the keeper at 1-1 against burnley in the championship relegation season, not shooting into an empty net and then failing to beat their makeshift defender-goalkeeper on the line, nightmare stuff
in terms of things i've seen on tv, probably real madrid's extra-time wank parade against atletico last year, or ozil missing that chance for 8-0 against brazil
Another coup for the Barcelona of Staffordshire.
